  1. Harry Potter: The Deathly Hallows part 2 - I enjoyed the books, but this might be the first of the movies that eclipsed the reading. As a series of movies, I thought the first was good, but the next few dragged a bit. Starting around the 5th movie though, they began to get better with each one. The acting really hit its stride as these young characters began to be fleshed out, and the themes began to be a bit more mature. Also, the person in charge of casting in these films deserves a bloody Oscar, it has been perfect from start to finish. Now the 7th film set the stage for this finale, and a few complained about it, but what it allowed the 8th to do was be an absolute thrill ride from start to finish. It was an epic conclusion. Both the last book and this movie made me emotional at a certain point, and that is always a plus in my book. The book and the movie share the same events, but I would even go so far as to say the way they were presented in the movie versus the book left me in a more positive mood. So I'd just say it was a great ride, from movie 1 to 8, and it ended phenomenally.
  2. If you look at Metacritic, Dungeon Siege 3 has fairly decent scores. In fact it only has 1 negative score and almost 50 good scores from critics. In comparison, Alpha Protocol has quite a few negative reviews and did very poorly when reviewed on the consoles. DS3 is definitely better received than AP. I'm not talking about user reviews, I'm talking about actual published reviews. But that really doesn't have anything to do with sales.
  3. The only real thing at stake here for Obsidian is the chance to work with Square Enix again. The quality of the game and the critical response is good enough that I can't see how it would affect Obsidian's reputation with fans or other publishers. FO:NV shows that with proper targeting and advertising, Obsidian is capable of developing a hit.
  4. I wouldn't go that far. Also that 100K is it just for 360. Ah see, that makes a big difference. So if it did 100k on the 360, and maybe a little less, like 80k on the PS3, and then maybe around 30k on the PC, suddenly we are over 200k. Still low, but with the international numbers it might get closer to 300k. Which is a bit more respectable in the first month. These are all made up numbers, of course, but apparently so is the 100k number everyone is bandying on about.
  5. Is that 100k number really confirmed?
  6. Thanks GD, they were lucky and seemed to get mostly my wife's genes
  7. I can't tell, but is there actually a difference between Battlefield and the MW games? Battlefield games generally have longer SP levels and are less dependent on creating a "cinematic experience" by herding you along a single path from one scripted encounter to the other.* *(Based on my experience of Bad Company 1 and 2). They are extremely different in multiplayer. Do they even have vehicles in MW3? You can load a full crew into a chopper in the Battlefield games and make it rain lead. You can roll into the enemies base with tanks. I only played the original MW, but the pacing of the action in the two games is quite different.
  8. You potty trained at 7 months? That is pretty amazing. Every kid is different though, good luck with the next one. My daughter was pretty easy at 2.
  9. I played the lottery and I didn't win. Lame. Yesterday I woke up and brought the kids out to the family room. After a few minutes, I smelled a poop diaper, and I looked over at my son who was playing with toys. His diaper had exploded, and there was wet poo all over the floor. He had moved a bit and got some on his hands, and there was also poop on the toys. I grabbed him and tossed him in the bath, then bagged the toys for the garbage and mopped the floor. It was an interesting way to start the day. It amazes me how he just smiles through the whole thing. These kids are getting big though.

That was pretty sick. You have to wonder if he planned it or was going for a different move and got lucky.
  11. Congrats, but I think your wife deserves most of the credit here.
  12. They did this about a decade ago. I don't know of any regular Wal-Marts or regular Targets. The last regular Target I know of was the one I worked at in 2000. Which closed down and started splitting employees into nearby SuperTargets. We had a new Walmart put in here in Morgan Hill, and it is rather small, but it has an amazing grocery store. I've never been a fan of walmarts, all the ones I've been in have been terribly messy and miserable places. Apparently we got the high end version though, because everything from the bathrooms to the vegetable aisle is immaculate. It is better than our fairly new Target and our large Safeway. It doesn't have the same inventory as a large grocery store, but the prices are unbeatable. It really changed my opinion of the entire company.
  13. I usually only grab food at Target if I'm short on a couple things but needed to go there for something else, like diapers. I do get some decent coupons from them on occasion. There food selection is still pretty weak.
  14. That was a depressing look at a person in charge of a major studio.
  15. I remember when we did this with Battlefield 2. Them were the days
  16. Like Slowtrain, I rarely get further than 100 pages into a book I dislike. Even in college when I was assigned certain books, if it was not good I just skimmed it for talking points. I used to read Piers Anthony books in middle school, but he seemed to slowly turn into a dirty old man as he wrote them, and so I gave those up.
  17. IMHO the bandit camp is the worst of the questlines. For my first play through I went with Inquisitors and it was much better structured and more immersive. I went to the bandit camp first as well, since they sounded like a Robin Hood type group. But after I spoke to a few of them I realized they were just a bunch of lazy thieves living in a smelly swamp. Then I snuck into the town and talked to some more folks, and it really became clear that the bandits were a bunch of jerks. So I did all the town quests and then joined the Inquisition, and it was a very enjoyable progression.
  18. Not to be a buzz kill, but considering that a bajillion other folks are on steam with tickets I wouldn't get my hopes up too high. I was going to gift my winnings to folks like you, but now you are off the list! Actually I doubt the odds are that steep. Sure, there are millions of people who use Steam, but you have to figure the people who actively sought out tickets is a good deal smaller. Sure, it is still probably 10,000 to 1, but don't underestimate the power of positive thinking. When I buy lottery tickets I immediately plan out how I am going to structure the next day after I hit the jackpot. 'Tis best to be prepared.
  19. As I said earlier, this is most likely the publisher's responsibility. There is a chance that Obsidian didn't even handle the final steps for such a small patch. If you notice, the official technical support section is handled by Square Enix. This is simply a forum hosted by Obsidian, we get a few developers in from time to time, but if you expect someone to drop what they are doing to address your needs, you are going to be disappointed. It is first and foremost a place for fans of Obsidian to gather. It is also a gladiatorial pit for people who like to argue over RPG's. Two men enter, one man leaves!
  20. I've got 13 tickets, so if I don't win, I'm going to be pissed.
  21. Today my daughter took a large stick and slid it down the back of her shirt. She said she needed it to fight the bad man that took candy from little girls. It looked just like every video game character that carries a sword behind their back. Now she has a fly swatter set up in the same position.
  22. Two Worlds 2 Fate of the World Just Cause 2 Darksiders Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword Penny Arcade Adventures Combo pack Post Apocalyptic Mayhem (Ok, I grabbed this for the achievement, that was dumb.) Alien Breed 2: Assault (Free) So TW2 was the only thing I picked up over $5, and I had been waiting on that one for awhile. So far Just Cause 2 was the best deal, I've been having a blast with that. I think it was about $40 total.
  23. Look, there are maybe a handful of Obsidian employees that come anywhere near this message board, and it is unlikely that they are the ones who did anything with the patch. It is not part of their job. In fact it really is the publisher's responsibility to get this type of information out for people, and given how minor it is, it probably won't happen.
  24. After a little bit of work, I'm up to 13 tickets. The last day is today, and stuff goes on sale in just a few minutes.
  25. It also seems to completely ignore the fact that the founding fathers were extremely wealthy. All that stuff about aristocracy and sacrifice is a bit of a stretch. Speaking of the government making decisions for us, why did they establish an electoral college? That bothered me a lot more than the religious assertions, although they did open with that and it doesn't seem to really jive with the rest. Specifically, how is our country virtue-less? in 1776 we had slavery. Slavery. That probably bears repeating. We bought and sold people in 1776. Morality is a pretty tough thing to define, but it is hard to take anyone serious that thinks we haven't become better people as a whole in 235 years. So the whole spiel contradicts itself with jumping between "Government shouldn't tell us what to do!" and "National immorality should not be allowed to exist!" If it had just stuck to the complaints about politicians I would have jumped on board with it. It is interesting if this is from the 90's, because it really sounds like an anti-gay marriage rant when it uses words like perversion and ordering private relationships. The more things change, the more crotchety old people cling to a rose colored view of the past, I suppose.
