Norway appoints Muslim woman Minister of Culture
Well said. That's really the reason I have so much trouble understanding this whole thing. I teach Muslim students every day. They are proud of their culture, but they are also just typical kids.

Turkey asks parliament to authorise military action in Syria immediately
Thanks for the perspective Raktul.

President Obama
I think the whole idea of attacking the employment numbers is ridiculous. We should all want the economy to improve, and the numbers are still positive growth. Spinning them into a negative is stupid, and Romney needs to get rid of his campaign people because they keep making stupid choices like this. I would love to see Romney challenge Obama to be a better President. He has some momentum after the debate, so maybe he can get it together.

in other words, a other cultures you're not interested, you want to see fake show, dining and entertainment with an exotic flair. P.S. front left wheel displeased I've said this before, but you are really bad at this. I miss LoF.

Kickstarter for Old-school RPG manned by Brenda Brathwaite and Tom Hall
The newest update convinced me to throw in $15. The writing and the ideas seemed pretty interesting. I'm still skeptical they will hit that goal though.

Bethesda opens Battlecry Studios
TOR clearly didn't meet long term expectations, as much as I love the game. The layoffs were disappointing, but necessary to keep the game operating under realistic numbers.

Norway appoints Muslim woman Minister of Culture
The premise of your argument seems to be that when a new group moves to Sweden, that they won't embrace Swedish culture in any way. That does not have to be what happens. You can celebrate your traditions and heritage and still take part in your new home's cultural identity. Your use of these forums is a great example of diversity working. We are an incredibly diverse group here with quite a few different beliefs. Many of us come from vastly different cultures, and not all of us speak English as our primary language. We are brought together by a fairly simple thing, video games. It seems like a person's home country would be a bigger common thread than that.

I didn't watch, but apparently it went terribly for Obama.

Dead State also needed a lot less to make the goal. It's just going to need a decent spike from somewhere, maybe it can get on Penny Arcade or something.

How is the eastern part of Germany handling all this, by the way? It's hard to believe it has only been a little over 20 years since they were reunited.

It's moving pretty slow. I think it will struggle to reach the target, the first couple days are usually the big one. My guess is closer to half a million.

Bethesda opens Battlecry Studios
I don't know enough about how Bethesda is handling their MMO, but I would assume a guy with this type of resume will be collaborating in some way on TES Online.

Xcom
Are you talking about within the missions? The first mission and a half are clearly a guided tutorial, but once that turned off in the second mission, you pretty much had free will to go after the rest of the aliens any way you wanted. It was really just a small taste of the action. What tactical options did you feel were lacking?

Xcom
But why do you want a bigger map? The map sizes in the original were perfect. Extending the map in a turn-based game simply means more time spent searching to the edges of the map. It doesn't actually improve the game. I'll admit the tutorial missions were a bit small, but I doubt they are indicative of the average mission size, and much like the original I am guessing map size depends on the mission.

Xcom
Have you played the original Xcom? The maps seem to be about the same.

Yeah, I wasn't impressed with the lack of details. There aren't many folks that are bigger fans of Sir-Tech than me, but Brathwaite wasn't exactly the head honcho behind Wizardry and Jagged Alliance. They have a sizable team, they should be able to come up with some more info or art before I drop a pledge.

As difficult as the housing bust was in the US, the economy has been slowly recovering for a number of years, as has the employment numbers. Housing prices are stable, the banks and auto industry stabilized, etc. I have no idea what that will mean for Europe, but I would think it would offer some hope.

Norway appoints Muslim woman Minister of Culture
Look, human nature by definition may be unchanging, but humanity as a whole has progressed tremendously. I'm not simply talking about technology, although anything that improves quality of life can help improve a society. Humanity improves through education and societal expectations. If you grow up in a society where tolerance is encouraged and expected, then the majority of people will be tolerant. If you grow up in a society where multiculturalism and diversity are celebrated, then the majority of people will be accepting. This isn't some utopian dream either, it is the way many communities function on a daily basis. It is difficult to effectively educate everyone, that is why I said you will see many generations pass before a community will fully change. John Locke was mentioned earlier, but I lean more towards Rousseau myself: “We are born weak, we need strength; helpless, we need aid; foolish, we need reason. All that we lack at birth, all that we need when we come to man's estate, is the gift of education.”
