We didn't say anything when they came for the smokers...
Mor replied to Walsingham's topic in Way Off-Topic
You outlined another contributing factor, while I am saying that a person who want to loose weight will, and a person who don't will use contributing factors as excuses. For example the coworkers I mentioned, we got the same coupons from work, we went to the same restaurants, they picked up junk and ate more, ontop of that they were constantly crunching stuff before and after the meal, always extra sugar on the cappuccino machine etc... I guess their contributing factor was stress eating? People being told equals tax money, so its our money in both cases. Though people don't respond well to being told how or what todo and I am no one babysitter. If a person want to gorge himself go ahead, but I shouldn't pay for his habit. I am not certain which program you refer to, but obesity which is easily preventable, increase your risk factors in everything, so that tax money would pay medical bills and related programs.- 165 replies

You seem awfully certain that the choice factor outweighs any others. And I may be inclined to agree, if the choice was whether to be poor or not. I'm sure you can see how absurd the implication that people willingly make an informed decision to be poor is. Because, you see, the correlation between obesity and poverty is a fact. http://diabetes.diabetesjournals.org/content/60/11/2667.full As Enoch excellently explained, value judgments are not the best way to handle this, regardless of how expedient they may be. There are many correlations related to poverty, but correlation does not imply causation. Indeed in our case poverty means less access to healthy/diverse type of food and medical care, which leads to general health issues. But people are not getting obese because they are poor, they are obese because they can't shut their pie hole. Eating/drinking/medicating your sorrows away, Boredom eating, social eating, eating eating eating. In addition lack of exercise. Overall this lack of self control and neglecting, which is the reason why people are obese(among other things) Also your study speaks about individuals who use supplemental nutrition assistance program. That is nice, but many of my engineer team are obese and they are making high tech salaries, which put them way above that. so what their excuse, no time? BS. hedonism is more like it.- 165 replies

We all may or may not get a serious medical condition, though some of us are far far more likely to get one and due to their own doing. I haven't said anything about drinking, since I am not familiar with any practical way to address the issue other than taxes on alcohol, which I'd rather not have. I'll let the doctors draw the lines http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obesity#Effects_on_health As for why the focus on obesity and something else: "Obesity is a leading preventable cause of death worldwide, with increasing prevalence in adults and children, and authorities view it as one of the most serious public health problems of the 21st century" Like I said the key phrase is easily preventable. **** happens to us all, we can't fault someone for being born one way or another. No, the message is if you choose to neglect yourself, you better be ready to pay the price. As for the rest those are contributing factors, but overall its all about lack of self control/respect.- 165 replies

I agree, I don't think that food taxes is the way to go. This is extremely hard to implemented and IMO has dubious individual benefits. I prefer personal responsibility over collective punishment, I want to be able to enjoy some junk food once in a while, its my decision how much soda I want to drink and I shouldn't pay more so that some people will eat less.. It should be about the individual to show self control and self respect. Which is why I prefer the health insurance approach. Its not about some vague 'higher risk for 40 years down the road' it is about obesity being a major risk group for just about anything and it is very easy to check by your waist line. The key phrase was "easily preventable" and people who work hard to take care of themselves having to pay for those who don't.- 165 replies

Ah, but that requires a judgment call, which, of course, requires a judge of some sort. So who gets to decide when my malady is my fault, as opposed to the luck of the genetic draw or lousy medical advice or deceptive food marketing or my employer making me sit still all day or a hundred other possible causes? And what are my appeal rights to this decision, how many experts can I hire to argue on my behalf, etc., etc. All those administrative costs and the associated (necessary) fraud-prevention controls would eat into those cash savings pretty quickly. That why we play politics, instead of "limiting monetary and medical health assistance", we call it encouraging healthy life style and provide extras assistance to those who follow a certain health criterion. As for causes, lets take car insurance for example, you can have all the causes in the world behind you, but in most places you will still pay more if you were involved in accidents or part of a risk group... How about obesity being harmful to "innocent" third parties pockets(See Airlines pricing example), I don't know about you but I think that most people would care more about their pocket than someone smoking in a non smoker zone..- 165 replies

Btw most of the things he does are ~pretty easy to achieve with some practice. Skipping the first example where you'd need a good a lot of practice to achieve that balance and probably be able to do some 25+ pull ups. The next few things you should be able to achieve ~some result with moderate exercise over a month, after that the more you practice the further you go. As long as its not to dangerous, such games are pretty fun and spice up the routine of exercise pushing you forward.

If you refer to Obama care, its the wrong example. Because this is exactly the situation right now i.e. we go by the Abuse Indulgent and Affordable Care Act. So a person who lives a healthy life style and exercise will be financing those who park their as on a couch and do nothing.( Last year a 20 year old unwashed behemoth of 160kg, came to my mom complaining about shortness of breath and general weakness, asking what what could be the reason, really ?!) I support the idea of personal freedom, if you want to **** up your life do it, but I shouldn't be paying the bills when the consequence of your choice come back to hunt you.- 165 replies

I was stirring up the health insurance pot There is despite your OP statement, while most things cause cancer the one noted are the most common/hazardous which are easily preventable. I don't need to pay for other people habits.- 165 replies

A mysterious illness has claimed the lives of tens of thousands of starfish. Dubbed "sea star wasting syndrome," the arms of an infected individual will twist into knots, develop lesions, and finally crawl away in opposite directions until they tear away from its body, allowing its insides to spill out. The problem with "cameras", is that they change the paradigm of innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, to guilty in court of public opinion. Put up a video on youtube, especially edited version or one that don't show the whole picture and you can get the department to try and settle even if you was 100% wrong. Worse there guys like in the video I posted on the previous page, that just goading and trolling people who try todo their jonbs. On the other hand video evidence is great for court, without that video it would be cops word against the girl and her friends who would claim excessive force(they guy who filming it clearly believes it i.e. she is just a little you can't be allowed to that) It seem like a part training exercise and part formation changes from my old medieval books

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OGBfHLIzOA Someone should tell those guys that the freedom to be an ****, doesn't mean you have to be one.. Look at how angry he is?! He doesn't get enough hugs?! Honestly, I wish this video has a different ending, in which couple of dushbag kids end up being violated with a police baton, anally!

Of course its about Iran if it was some other stable moderate country that was forthcoming, transparent and fully cooperative, allowances would have been made.. There are background checks on gun sale, of course its minor consideration with nuclear technologies and countries who wish to gain regional supremacy are involved... Are you suggesting that sanctions will cause more harm then good to Iran for counting on its course(because that is pretty much the point), or to the cause of Nuclear Non-proliferation when the next country decide that all they need is to follow North Korea and Iran footsteps... Or not, here is a recent NYT article on the subject that I read: Also it make no sense for Iran to push for nukes right now. North Korea abrupt act of defiance wasn't too kind to them. The better way to do it is just like Assad force escalation in Syria war was i.e. very slowly, letting people in the world get used to it and then continue with next step.. eventually creating facts, where "sanction" would make no more sense.. Its a good suggestion. Although it should be noted that it was suggested before with North Korea, in fact they were in the middle of making that deal happen when things got complicated. As for clandestine part, I agree this is exactly what the current deal tries to address, through measures that would give the world at least a year notice if Iran decide to push for the bomb.

What we differ on is not on whether Iran want the sanctions lifted(they most certainly do), but whether they are planning to make any serious concessions. All you need is learn from history, read a summary of IAEA reports concerning North Korea... the name of the game is public opinion attrition. There the USA also took upon itself to play direct negotiations and a lot of PR, BS and several years later, there are retards who actually think that North Korea was the good guy in the story... (at least until the next crisis) Also we can't wait and see, because as the saying goes, once you go "nuclear" you are never going back. Which is exactly what the NPT and IAEA is suppose to prevent. nobody has been complaining? well either we are biased or you are uninformed, you can educate yourself by going to the IAEA website and read about complains concerning various countries or just read the link I posted above with long summary(Iran like the rest has its section) http://www.world-nuclear.org/info/Safety-and-Security/Non-Proliferation/Appendices/Nuclear-Proliferation-Case-Studies/ So on top of: not dealing not in good faith for a decade, concealing its activities, defying UN Security Council resolutions, producing far far more than they would need for their "peaceful" program, making up excuse so that they can game the system getting closer to production of weapons-grade uranium, which has no economic rational to them(which is a big concerns) We also have close ties with North Korea -- who previously "cooperated", while developing nuclear weapons and ballistic technologies, while world attention was away -- and cooperation in ballistic missile development and likely Nuclear. It is Iran who has been promoting radical Islam and.. well we already covered it on the previously.. and oblivious changing a figurehead that smiles and nods to appease the west, hasn't changed the underlying goals of Iran and the supreme leader Ali Khamenei..
-
So is north Korea It's not about who is more stable or less, its about preventing the spread of nuclear weapons everywhere.(and reducing the stocks that we already have) Everyone want them, especially the "underdogs", if Iran get them its only a matter of time until Turkey and Saudi get them(they are already thinking about it) etc etc etc Ahmadinejad?! don't tell me you buy this whole Rouhani the liberal crap. Iran has been misconducting well before Ahmadinejad read this The figure head change is purely political move, underneath it still the same supreme leader Ali Khamenei... Their policies hasn't been changed. They still playing for time hoping that with time public relations will allow them to pass the sanctions and keep at what they do.
-
There is a new "breaking story", suggesting that Saudi Arabia bought ballistic missiles from China in 2007, with quite approval from the US. I don't know if its true, after all breaking stories tend to be loose on the accuracy in favor of high ratings. However, I wont be surprised by it. As i noted before in recent years Saudis have become the biggest buyer of US arms. I hope that Iran rants concerning the nuclear talks, is nothing but posturing for the purpose of internal propaganda and it will fold. After all no one buys the "right to enrich" BS, it is not about if they can enrich for "peaceful" purpose, its about trust. For a decade Iran has failed to meet its obligations under its NPT safeguards. The concern is that they get what they want and then opt out of their commitment, similarly to how North Korea did it. If they do, then we have a nuclear arm race in the middle east.. which is not a very exciting prospect.

I believe you may have a crouton wedged in your keyboard. WHAT? joke I tried to moderate with PC, playing on the lack of internet porn, as the cause of Al Qaedas variant of sexual frustrated teenagers exploding while praising god.

How insensitive it would be, if I suggest that their poor countries closed society and very little access to internet and thus porn. Might have something todo with them exploding all the time? In most of those countries the median age is about 25, so you basically have a lot of teenagers with nothing todo. Think of those annoying clips on Youtube where they chant allah akbar, wouldn't it better if they were looking at a computer screen at that time I mean AlLaH AkBaR

You are right, it depends on the type of the show and the company. Though I wasn't talking about flaws per se, every show have them. Its about the producers not able to stop milking the cow, while they are still ahead. I prefer to be left with a cliffhanger, then be disappointed by artificially prolonged plot, where its and the production is dragged through the mud. With breaking bad the realization that I didn't really enjoyed that much the last two seasons, came when Walter managed to talk himself out of killing those two dealers, the chemist, betraying the trust of the boss and showing that the pinkmen is a liability. With a simple you need me and I won't work without the retard pinkmen... Where is the counter offer, that he won't be able to refuse i.e. put the him in his place i.e. shut the **** up and watch as I bash the head of your retard friend, take as sample of what will happen to your family, relatives and anyone who you care about if you ever cross us.. In case Walter has any smartass ideas about running away, turning in to the police, witness protection, killing the boss, a strike, whatever; throw in a couple of million from the monthly batch to make sure if anything happens he and his family/relatives/friends will either die or be on the run\hidding for the rest of their life.

I recently realized that from the top of my head, I can't come up with one series that I enjoyed, which didn't plunged into oblivion somewhere around season two\three. When watching with someone, it is easy to miss that mark where it start go down (because it's not the show but the company and experience WILL vary if you stupid enough to mess with formula and watch it alone) but eventually you do and realize that last season were such a waste of time. Last week I was remind of that with Breaking bad season four first episode, I spent most of the episode thinking WTF?! this retarded... why is pinkmen isn't finally dead ?!

Fresh bread Its one of the only thing I don't buy in the supermarket, but stop in a bakery near by to get it when it still warm and they also experiment with various additions! Anyway, bread, load of butter and ontop roasted peppers(paper, oven, oil, garlic, wait) and load of salt. Its one of those childhood fancies of mine, that I just can't give up. ahh its always nice to spice up your menu. Btw, we recently experiment with making sushi, and I warmly recommend it, its extremely fun to make and experiment with, its like giving a lego for a child for the first time.
