Russian naval base is leased to Russia for at least several decades, in return for semi-mutually beneficial gas deal to both Russia and Ukraine. I am not sure why you decided that it was in danger, but I am certain that Russian wish to keep its real estate in Ukraine isn't a causes beli to invasion.

Ukraine army on full alert as Russia backs sending troops This is very concerning, but I still think that Troll Putin intentionally creating a crisis, the current protest are nothing compared to several month of Pro-Western protests. Russian goal is either to create a pliable government to its policy by deepening Ukrainian economical crisis (hard to find investors in such time) or by increasing Pro-Russian votes in the upcoming election by fear mongering and creating artificial division along sectarian lines as they did so well in Syria(Making into alawites vs sunni, instead of corrupt leader). After all this whole thing started as demonstrations against soviet era corruption and economy(and Russian influence). Which in turns play to the hands of Putin Pravda* that everyone are "biased" against them... * Pravda is news outlet from the soviet times, whose name is literaly 'truth'. Russian popular saying was that in Truth there is no news, and in the News there is no Truth. Nobody cares about that, they care based on geopolitical goals. If they talk humanitarian or somesuch it's sugar coating for the public. Besides, it's by no means certain that you'd get a majority for secession even if you could hold a plebiscite on it, the autonomous Chechnya was an absolute disaster- for the Chechens. Again you choose to avoiding commenting on the current issue at hand of possible Russian invasion in Crimea region of Ukraine i.e. making territorial gains if their bid for pliable Ukrainian government to pro-Russian policy and, potentially subordinating Ukraine economically and politically. And or possible consequence of it. First you deflect by crying west(much like most of your posts), then that people should be able to choose where they want to join. (a good argument for Russian interest in Eastern Ukraine where there is a large Russian speaking population), but once I mention places such as Russian Caucasus(e.g. Chechnya) separatism (which was devastated by Russian interest), you start to play another tune, now it's ok as long as in your opinion it wouldn't be absolute disaster. So far all you have been doing is to sugar coat and deflect from Russian systemic self interested trouble making in the region.

I think that prisons show us that even most controlled environment any tool can be used to cause harm in a premeditated attack. That doesn't mean that we should control toothbrush sale, or make weapons easily available accessible or uncontrolled. Generally speaking the bottom line is that guns are far more effective/lethal then knifes. Anyone can squeeze the trigger, not everyone can stab a person to death, let alone to build up the courage to get close enough, especially if he is big. Also most crimes are attacks of opportunity.

There are so many minor tips on how to better burn calories ( e.g. drinking coffee before a run ) Honestly, it is all BS in the grand scheme of things, the only thing that really works is to keep at it. So as long as you work it and you see results, whatever works for you is fine

We must have seen different videos, because the ones I seen by UN watch were about the UN and the UN Human rights council in particular i.e. its composition, corruption and cynical message. Which might leads to wrong perception of the issue in the world pushed by its main perpetrators. This is true in case such as Iran Nuclear program, Iran economical dependency on oil/gas exports is a much needed leverage for a productive boycott policy to advance the cause of world nuclear proliferation or Iranian human rights. However, in Rostere example the cause is about taking sides in a conflict, a political Advocacy through delegitimization if you wish.

I hate when they hide important bit in the last two lines i.e. what its application to give context to the claim that its a game changer.

My stance on what exactly? If it's on territorial integrity then it's meh, don't really care. [..] For Ukraine, it's an artificial country made up on the basis of internal Soviet divisions that were never intended to have any practical consequence at all. Let the people who want to join Russia do so, let the people who want to be Ukrainian do so, let the people who may want to be Polish/ Romanian/ Hungarian be so. The question was about your stance on Russian invasion (highlighted above) in light of reports of Russian PMC taking control of Government buildings, Airport and troop movment. Basically what if turns out that Russia is making territorial gains if their bid for pliable Ukrainian government to pro-Russian policy and, potentially subordinating Ukraine economically and politically. That and everything it would involve for the regional stability (e.g. Tatar taking cue from Caucasus) Also whatever your opinion about earlier Soviet divisions is, I hope you don't confuse it with legal case for Russia invasion, which it doesn't have. Although, I am happy that you think that people like those in Caucasus should be free to choose who to join. Though Russian war in the Caucasus show that they don't really care about that. No, I don't really find it interesting, I'm afraid, I find it rather humdrum and par for the course. I lack the... belief needed to think that exactly the same thing doesn't and wouldn't happen to countries the West dislikes. Indeed it is rather humdrum and par for the course for you to deflect to the west again. Kind like with Robbed Cossack's before crying bias. For those who are interested in this crisis. That map makes Russian stated motivations a suspect even to the naked eye. It makes more sense if you are familiar with those cases, economical/political context since 90s, previous crisis and Russian covert operations here; and it would allow you to draw parallels between the rhetoric, threats and military build up now and the prelude to Russian invasion of Georgia under pretext of peace keeping. It is a gross simplification, especially the part where you make a false equivalence between the circumstances and the action taken by Russia and NATO. So I will reiterate what I said in my previous post, which despite being the first two goggle post result provide more nuance on the matter.

I agree, although I doubt it will lead to anything else. Russia don't want to "free" Crimea exactly because all that jazz in the Caucasus. There is no single benefit of Russia suporting invasion\secession that I can think off. However, this is a great "PR" i.e. blowing out of proportions the events (couple of days marginal protest in Crimea, compared to month's of huge protest in Kiev and the rest of the country) they unsettle the new Pro-western Ukraine interim government, and place their own agenda on the table(e.g. playing on persecution of Russians), in hope that they can net a big turn out in the upcoming elections to get the pliable new government the want without firing one shot.

Yes, but then you have to explain how Kosovo- or ... How so? iirc you or at least several other people keep bringing Kosovo as an example of what not todo, I don't suppose that your argument for Russian invasion of Ukraine being legitimate, warranted or being benefit Ukraine is based on finger pointing.. ( btw what is your stance here? ) Also here is a quick map I drew: I find it interesting that those three incidents happened\ing in countries bordering Russian sphere of influence which either joined or wished to join the EU. Don't you? I am not planing to rehash this Kosovo vs Georgia, since I don't see how it is relevant to our case, but here is couple of articles/sentences I quickly goggled if you a are interested: This is not to deny the superficial similarities.. Georgia has been, in a real sense, the revenge for the independence of Kosovo.. Russian stance driven in part by its wish to avoid setting a precedent for Chechnya or other restive republics within Russia.. Russian forces have acted as self-interested troublemakers, not as neutral peacekeepers. http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/fighting_words/2008/08/south_ossetia_isnt_kosovo.html http://www.economist.com/node/12009678

You mean like in other "breakaway" regions across the former Soviet Union, such as in Georgia's Abkhazia and South Ossetia and Moldova's Transnistria? Such intervention would be certainly labeled by russia as helping, defending or whatever bumper sticker that Putin daily slap on top. Surely nothing todo with establishing its dominance, arm wrestling the smaller player, maintaining economical monopoly over the EU and or political/military gains such as before. Although that strategically most important naval base in the Black Sea looks nice. Anyway, ignoring the Russian drumms of war (big deceleration by Russia and troops/ships movements), am I the only who think that the events are taken a little bit out of proportion? We had a few small scale ~5k-10k pro-Russian and pro-Ukrainian demonstrations, clashed among the two and one hostages crisis (am I missing something?)

You refer to the region's autonomous status within Ukraine?

These guys(3:00) don't look or move like any special forces I seen, and this kid seems little small framed for the typical Russian grunt.. Also I'd be surprised if after all that Russian talk against foreign interventions over the past 6 years, they will take any action inside the sovereign nation of Ukraine. EDIT: although that didn't stop them from using a similar justification for sending troops into Georgia.. in 2008. (and using the same trick in at least 2 other regions) @alanschu, it is not about discredit, it is about trying to keep actual discussion on tracks without getting bogged down by the same arguments, because using ignore will net you with page full of collapsed posts. Also if you are looking for the actual discussion. go from the start until about the time Tagziel left.

I understand and agree with what you are saying, but not so much with the point your trying to make here. Because what you said is "universally true", simply replace Homosexuality with any news item, current issue etc and it will remain just as valid i.e. most of us will remain apathetic to whatever unless it directly involve us or got enough exposure in the media. So this rather generic response against the "system", doesn't really impact this specific topic, at least as far as I can see. (btw I recently made a post with almost the exact same bottom line) IMO Russia got pressured, because a. they hoped to raise awareness in Russia b. in the hope that it will force Russia to compromise to avoid bad press(since they hoped of leveraging the Olympics for various economical and political purposes)

Easily said then done The best way to lure the bastards i was able to devise is heating the bait a little (In my case it made them stick out their noose almost immediately) but then you need to dispose of the bastards.. I suggest simply throw them into dumpster with trap and not thinking about it, because the alternative might not be very pleasant... like trying to be humane and drown the rodent for quick "painless" death.

@Malcador, sorry, with the turn some of the post took over the last couple of pages, it is hard not to look for release the hounds button. @213374U, Being fluent in Russian will only help you understanding common curse words, something about district attorney and my summary: быдлo. @oby, yeah, keep pumping those drums of war.. pretending as if you care one way or another about all those issues other than in how it effects Russia interests.

Again what? You are acting as if this was some conference about LGBT rights in the world and they focused solely on Uganda, as opposed to a news item, about criticism of a newly passed law.. So no, I don't see this as selective criticism or as Low Hanging Fruit, nor have I seen any mention of boycott there or anything todo with Russia...

Yeah.. well Grasshopper you might learn something from those ants. Actually one of their idioms just came to mind about the "robbed Cossack" i.e. the abuser who plays the abusee or the Offender who acts as the victim. It perfectly fit all the cries from before about Western propaganda by Russian trolls such oby with this post being the cheery on top Yeah the vultures are out...

I believe that what he is saying that movement in fluid is not a function of pressure, so as long as you can survive it doesn't matter i.e. a diver 5 or 500 meters bellow will move the same (as long as he can negate the effects of pressure to avoid that unpleasant effect also known as death).
