To totally throw the angle of the thread.. Haven't you heard? They usually blame it on the european colonialism and exploitation of the past few centuries.... While these are totally carzy people in their own right - it's not like the European exploitation really helped the matter either.

I'm not about to overthrow world order - don't worry.. I'm just looking at society and trying to figure out how it can be fixed - preferably without resorting to planned economics, because I do know my history.. However, by egalitarian I didn't mean 100% equal - I simply meant more equal than now. 1% having 40% is unsustainable. I have to say I find that pretty cynical .. I believe greed and it's counterpart altruism are both a product of conditions and something you could avoid given the right circumstances. Our culture promotes selfishness and individualism, because we believe that these things pushes us to flourish and helps us do our best - and in many cases it does, but I don't believe it to be part of "human nature" - it is simply a product of stimuli, much like everything else. And much like anything else, too much of it makes a bad ingredient.

While I may not agree with the free market, I think that a government regulated free market would be the best system. The system has been set for thousands of years, in order to set a new one you would need either complete agreement between countries or another British empire. So far the Venus project ideas seem a little flimsy. The problem being of course that a government is just a s susceptible to money corruption as corporation.. Betting rid of this debt would be a very good start and an egalitarian society (even based on money) is a lot less likely to succumb to corruption. So I try to be as open about it as possible, but this current situation has to change. I'd support a bigger government if that's the only viable alternative.

lol U mad?

Yeah, most diehard libertarians want to back to the gold standard or at least get away from the fractional reserve and fiat system.. I'm a bit torn, I think I support The Venus projects ideas - they seem the most logical to me, as I don' trust the free market. I think any system that promotes greed and profit over renewability is dooming this planet's capacity to support us.

I know, it's quite absurd.. a little humour attacking it. But basically it's becaue the current system of creating money, which is based off debt.. most pure liberals attack it, most communist attack it - well most anyone except bankers and financiers attack it.. But basically the various nations have to borrow from their (privately owned) nation bank, which puts an interest on the money it creates/prints. Bascially due to the fractional reserve system a bank my create money on a ratio that differs from country to country - but I believe it's about 1:9 in average.. so let's say I take a loan of 10.000 dollars and deposit it, then the bank may loan out 9.000 dollars from these 10.000 .. and the 9.000 may become 8.100 etc etc.. the problem here of course is that only the principal is created (out of nothing) but the interest is still required and thus debt is created out of creating money. But since I have to pay back the loan given what is in the available money supply and this supply is "pumped" with debt created money it gets impossible in theory to repay all debt. It's more technical, but I'm still learning about it - so far I'm very disgusted..

I think this is pretty telling.. The world (yeah that's right) is currently in a 12 trillion dollar debt.. We are spending so much on bonuses and interest rates while on

The same could be said about "ancient evil/empire" (Kotor/ME/any Sci-fi or fantasy game), "Alien Invasions", "Apocalypse - post and pre" etc etc?

Or they went and found a locksmith?

Also decide it's chances when it must wager.. it's quite an impressive feat and it goes to show how far computers are now and just how far they may still come in the next few decades.

What? Zombie games are great - stop making MMOs I say!

The most beautiful trailer ever. I have to agree.. really well made.

looks like computers are getting good at Jeopardy too.. One of the human adversaries humorously remarked at the end of segment 2, "I for one welcome our new computer overlords".. Watson.

Coincidentally, here is the link. It's DC universe online.

And I find him to be an expectionally good actor - willing to sacrifice a lot to do what it takes to play a role.. Just doing this (from the film The Machinist, which is a really good film btw): and going to this, in six months, is remarkable in it's own right.

Heh, he wasn't arguing against Denmark being in Europe - has arguing against the concept of arriving at European generalizations given data from a single European country. It is surprising (but keep in mind that this is worst case, not average) and frankly worrying, if the trend should precede.. the problem is, imho in itself, the overall direction that my society is taking - where we seem to want a decrease in spending, yet still demand the same quality service. We then get frustrated when, against all odds, efficiency falls as money is taken away and no effort went into trying to make better use of the limited capital. You also treat teachers with much more respect than we do, which is so important that I can not stress it enough to parents around me.. This is something that we really need to learn from both Americans and Finland. Teachers are permitted extremely slackness here and parents are permitted to question and criticize teachers in very damaging ways. As hurlshot says "the one thing I've learned is that the education system has little to do with student success. It's all about the parent community." - and this is more true than most Danish parents wish to realize I think. A community that supports and positively interacts with a school, helps to breed confident in the authority of the teachers in the kids. And kids need to respect the authority of teachers, or they won't know what 4x9 is when they reach adulthood. At the same time however, kids also need to learn when to question authority - because in my opinion this is was is lacking most in some of the best schools of America, the students seem more interested in doing a test right, rather than thinking outside the box - which in the end won't help their country at all. In this regard some Danish students are far ahead, unfortunately at the expense of rather basic curricula.

Yes yes, you are both great..

But Mkreku is a gaming journa... oooh!

Am becoming increasingly worried at the lethargy in modern society.. A school just started financially rewarding classes who attend school to battle absence (which had reached an overall 26%) - one should keep in mind that students are already getting 1000$ each month for going to school. Also, saw a documentary about the state of some of the worst high schools in Denmark (our schools are divided into different areas - science, language, buisness etc - the worst are generally those that deals simply with sales and being a sales-clerk.) Anyway, students in some of these schools couldn't, age og 17-19, say what 70% of a hundred was or what 9x5 is.. jeez.. Our overall standard in subject are usually in the top 10s, what the **** happened here?

That would be very effective - but unfortunately quite illegal.

They often state that dumping people into a VP world would cause insanity, depression and obesity.. Simply because our current system is tailored towards scarcity and people hoard to avoid it, thus putting us into a world of free food and resources means that we would go nuts.. The idea is to arrive at such a world, transitioning and going one step at a time. The idea also advocates that no laws should exist in a Resource based economy, but as you can imagine - people today would not fare well in a lawless society.. The argument goes that human behaviour is learned behaviour and as such any "utopia" is achievable with the right mindset.. I mean, imagine dumping a peasant from the 16. century in to today's world - he would need some serious readjustment as well. So was democracy a few hundred years ago.. and apparently still is in some places.

Your character must be quite strong - I thought that the recoil was near equal to the amount of force applied to the one who gets hit?

Clive Owen looks very much like him.. at least in Children of Men.

hah, this thread is hilarious.. I've (unfortunately?) never had a man-crush.. But I've always found Johnny Depp and strangely enough Bill Murray to be very interesting characters, both of which I would very much like to have a drink and conversation with.

If you want to be like that, we only have your word for any of the girls you post being anything other than random people who took photos of! Or your sister. You are both forgetting about personal bias. Beauty is subjective - within a margin of course as I'm sure most would agree that Susan Boyle for instance ain't that hot.
