Romance
injurai replied to Skyleaf's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'm currently tracking high compatibility with Josh, he should strike up a conversation with me. I think it's great that Obsidian is stepping up to the plate with relationships. It seems they are really taking the feedback to heart and are prepared to do something very enriching. -

Wow this page. Leeuwenhart I hope romance is announced tomorrow for your sake. -
One problem with romances, is that interesting romance relationships are ones that are tenuous. Television can sometimes get it right, because you could have seasons of people being interested in one another. But you get to see all the distraction in life that keep them apart. You have real actors that can put on convincing human emotions. Not everything has to be done through exposition. Video game romance sucks because most games can't afford the animation budget for something like that. Plus it's only really works good in cut scenes anyways. Naughty Dog can do it with Drake and Elena. But most relationships have to rely on exposition. I guess V:TMB kind of works, because it's subject matter gives it some space to breath with campy vampire tropes. But in general it just feels like unnatural shoehorning of overly horny carnally starved nymphomaniacs. Like in Bioware games. Even writing a character that is shy isn't all that convincing. Because they are basically standoffish until the final moment when they go all XXX on us. Since relationships shouldn't be a primary plot of the game, and will be optional. I think romances will inevitably somewhat disappointing. But if it's disappointing because the romance narrative was too casual, than that is fantastic. Better that than over-doing it and having something be truly loathsome.

Yeah, I don't think there is a need to reveal the 3m stretch goal right away. The closer to the end the more they want to get large pushes of backings. We are in the tail end of the trickle, which continues to slow. In a few days they'll need to come out guns blazing and really put up a large goal that is just barely in reach but will really make everyone throw themselves behind it. edit: Yay! 2.6m, now to get on with more interesting goals.

Split Health/Stamina

I honestly don't think they need to change the rest or health system. All that was needed to fix the issues with spam resting, or excess use of per encounter spell rotations was to incorporate the empower mechanic. -
A Home Base?

I'm actually hoping we get more than just a ship. Perhaps a whole cove to go with it. -
It certainly sounds like the layoffs have begun to rollout... Really pulling for Obsidian. I'd hate for them to downsize to the point where they can no longer work on sizable games anymore.

Also jittering text boxes that pop up on screen. Those have been present since day one.
