Found myself fast forwarding through dialouge, mainly the main quest stuff because I was tired of getting fed everything in tiny pieces, but to be honest I did that a few times with Planescape Torment as well. In PST the Dionarah storyline, which is kinda - sorta similar, felt like you were unraveling a mystery. There were plently of times in PST where you were forced to go through rather lengthy complicated main story dialouge, but they were with different characters and it was a different piece of the puzzle each time. PoE on the other hand, a little too much of the same thing spread too thin.

If we follow the rule that every other Deus EX game is terrible this one should be good.

I'm kinda in the mood for something like Freespace 2, while we are waiting for star citizen, but if Elite lacks a strong main story I predict getting bored with it eventually.

Anyone tried Elite Dangerous ?

I want to know what novel she's talking about.

Strips never work when they get political, and before you mention political satire strips, they're all terrible too.

Console Commands/Cheats
Gorgon replied to Noelle's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Skill cheats don't work anymore. I'm guessing it's part of the retro fix to strip whatever seems like buffs. Well, they have to be reapplied but given that the cheats only work early and late in the game, same difference. -
What is min-max ?
Gorgon replied to ProjectBG2Respawn's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
You are making 1 party member out of 6 perhaps 10-20 % better. It really won't matter much. -

It wouldn't matter if you had a roll system like torment. Have your cake and eat it too. Why not. It's your main character. I proudly cheated the stats on my guy so I could have a dispersal that would not otherwise be advisable as it would starve main stats. -
Better without stronghold?
Gorgon replied to halfoat's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It looks pretty deserted. There's a few hirelings pacing around but where are the servants, the janitors, the groundsman, the people who run the place ?. Why am I not dealing with land disputes and local politics with other lords. Seems like a missed opportunity. Resting is not practical. There are two area loads before you can get to bright.. whatstheplace.. the inn and no one seems to have resting supplies so I tend to use inns in towns as a base of operations. The ingredient shop and the bounties are worth getting, the rest not so much. -

This is why I dislike point buy. The stats on one character doesn't matter that much anyway so they might as well have given more freedom for main character creation. This is your main guy, you are supposed to care about other things except how effective he will be in combat. A 'roll' function with adjustments like PST or instance. -
I've been wondering what certain terms mean exactly. Typically they are in the discription of an item. Ei. retaliation and second chance, whatnot. Written in blue I think. Maybe there was supposed to be a mouseover function describing them. They are not in the Journal. It would be good to know exactly what they are.

Obsidian, I feel sorry for you.
Gorgon replied to Kimozabi's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'm worried long term, in a general sense, that being too sensitive to who you may potentially insult is going to make everything too safe, boring and irellevant. the first rule if you are trying to create something interesting is : don't try to please everybody. If you need to make concessions as a game developer to avoid becoming a target for a boycot campagin then that's what you are going to do, and that's why we can't have nice things. I don't think the limerick is a big deal, in fact I don't think it's anything but this weeks soon to be forgotten drama, but since we are raising a general issues that are also relevant to other art and entertainment media. -
We care about a Limerick now, try to keep up will you.

Limerick edit thread
Gorgon replied to Divinehammer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
With everything that's been going on I think it's important that people be allowed to express themselves on this. If things get too personal and people start stepping over the line. Well, the usual response will be to time out the thread. That would be a shame is what I'm suggesting. -

It started out hard, now around lv9 I don't bother saving anymore. I just use the autosave. I can still get killed but only if I get sloppy. I don't think the baseline difficulty is very well optimised either. Gonna finish the game but with permadeath on and maybe reduce the party size. We'll see. Part of it is where you are 'supposed' to be. I think a lot of people when faced with an open world sandbox just naturally ignore the main story quest, old habit from TES games perhaps ?. Anyway when you do get back to it it's laughably easy. The same goes for a lot of the optional city stuff.

Kaspersky detected trojan in pillarsofeternity.exe ?
Gorgon replied to Metamega's topic in Skeeter's Junkyard
I got several alerts on my Homeworld 2 installation. Happens all the time. Certain scrips and dlls are flags for your antivirus so it's treated as a virus just in case. -
Indiana's Freedom of Religion Law..controversial ?
Gorgon replied to BruceVC's topic in Way Off-Topic
Religion is a loophole for a whole lot of behaviors that society nolonger condones isn't it, but would it be less invasive to forbid religion ?. I think not. The point, I think, is that you can't really legislate your way out of every unfair practice. -

Does anyone know how XP works. I've noticed that NPCs that aren't in the party get quest XP, and combat XP is pretty minimal. What I want to know is whether everything is divided or whether everyone gets the same lump. Say 1/6 of party XP for want of any actual figures. If it's divided that would give you a rather severe penalty for having created a large roster of NPCs. I don't actually mind that the game is pretty stingy with handing out XP, it cuts down on the grinding too when you get no XP for combat.
