  1. Just a little poll to see if there is any interest in an Obsidian IRC channel... EDIT: I've established an unofficial Obsidian IRC channel. Join up now at: irc://irc.quakenet.org:6667/obsid That is: irc.quakenet.org, port 6667, channel #obsid Come one, come all! Arg stupid forum doesn't support IRC links.
  2. God if I could move through space and time I'd use to teleport behind my enemy and backstab them. DUMB, hiro.
  3. WHAT A STUPID RATING SYSTEM! Then again, people give lost and prison break high scores, so what do you expect? Heh if you take a look she's in a bunch of playboy movies. Whether or not she takes her clothes off I'm not sure, but I guess in a way my friend wasn't wrong.
  4. It's been a while since I read it, but from memory I liked it. It's not as dark as Night's Dawn - there is less poverty, sexual abuse (which actually disturbed me about Night's Dawn), etc. And because people are essentially immortal, death has a different meaning. But it's definitely worth reading. The alien enemy and the rogue artificial intelligence were my favourite parts. My favourite part of The Dreaming Void was the chapters on the dreams. It was an interesting mix between mediaeval fantasy and futuristic sci-fi.
  5. The Mating Habits of Earthbound Humans and Stranger than Fiction Mating Habits was absolutely hilarious the entire time. It's a documentary on human mating habits from the perspective of aliens. Comedy gold. One of my all time favourite movies. My friend told me the female protagonist is a porn star... not sure if he was truthful. Stranger than Fiction was a great movie. I love the two main characters (Will Farrel and some chick I like) and I also liked the movie in a holistic sense... can't pick exactly why... it wasn't suspenseful as such.
  6. Just finished The Dreaming Void by Peter F Hamilton. Set 1500 years after Pandora's star/Judas Unchained.
  7. Heroes has been hard to follow and nonsensical from the get up. I don't think I'll continue watching it. Some recent shows I HAVE liked, however: Journeyman Chuck The Big Bang Theory How I Met Your Mother and Stargate Atlantis has been getting better... probably because SG1 is finished.
  8. Oh you're an Aussie? Well then let's put another shrimp on the barbie shall we? Seriously, the fact that your Australian doesn't change the absurdity of the post you made earlier. I mean c'mon.... You deemed Obama unworthy of the presidency just coz he has a 'sleazy' smile? First of all, it's "you're", not "your". And yes I certainly did judge him at face value. Would you like a study to show why that's normal behaviour for a human, even in an election, or do you presume to be beyond the whims of your subconscious? So no, not absurd at all. No, I'm not just attacking your government. I'm attacking the type of people who supported it. Of which I suspect you'd be one, regardless of the facade of tolerance you try to project here. The genocide of the East Timorese continued past the start of this millenium. When your government could no longer ignore international pressure telling you to stop being so evil, it officially withdrew, and unofficially supported any militant groups who wanted to cause trouble for the East Timorese (which was a lot), by way of your military. And why? Because the East Timorese weren't Muslim.
  9. No disrespect intended, but with your current president's lackluster track record, I'm finding it rather difficult not to doubt the intelligence of american voters. Especially with posts such as these: I'm Australian [deleted]. You know - that group of champions who went to East Timor to stop you Indonesian [deleted] from committing genocide on the East Timorese? [Edited by SteveThaiBinh for insulting language.]
  10. That is wrong in of itself. Soldiers aren't police officers and shouldn't be regulated to that role. They are soldiers. It's relegated, not regulated... and even then I'd say that's the wrong word since that implies they are acting as police officiers, not soldiers, when in fact it would be both. Lucky you're not a novelist eh? To the topic: considering how chaotic vietnam was, are you saying that for lack of trustworthy or simply available law enforcement, the people should have simply done nothing? The soldiers should have ignored them if they needed help?
  11. And yet you've just voted out one of the major architects of your economic success - was it just that people were sick of the same face at the top for so long? No, as I said earlier, it's because of one of the policies recently introduced. It's called "work choices" and essentially undermines the worker, while empowering the employer. Nobody likes the idea of being fired without any warning, or having they wages reduced with no say in the matter. That, and the fact that Liberal and Labour both support a strong economy, while Labour does so while promising to abolish work choices. The way Liberal got that policy in was by having a majority in the senate. Now, Liberal looks like it'll have a majority in the senate, while Labour will be the Government. Which is really quite a safe way for things to be as it means that Labour can't suddenly introduce any radical new policies.
  12. The new government will sign Kyoto. Not that Australia is the problem. It's America, India and China... emphasis on the last two. The environment doesn't play that big a part in Australia. It's important enough to have a policy on though. Liberal ignored it completely, which I'd like to hope is one reason they lost. Honestly though, the average Australian cares almost singularly about the economy... which has served us quite well so far. We're one of the most developed and most satisfied countries in the world.
  13. The opposition party, Labour, seems to be winning our election by a safe margin. While both parties, Liberal and Labour, are idealogically in the centre, Labour is the slightly more left wing and Liberal the slightly more right-wing one. I'm glad Liberal didn't get back in because that'd be 14 years... they've had their time and frankly I no longer trust them. Especially with the new industrial relations laws they brought in to disempower unions. But I'm not terribly sure Labour is much better. They'll probably withdraw our support from the Iraq war... not sure what that'll mean. At least they're pro the environment.
  14. Anybody with half a brain wouldn't vote for him. Look at that dirty sleazy smile. Think it doesn't matter? Quite a few studies have proven it does - a lot of it is in the face.
  15. Yes. Generally, running around killing people because you don't get what you want, and having a little fun with the corpse as you do so, is considered psychopathic behaviour.
  16. Hah! What're you talking about. Prank calls are often hilarious, as I imagine half of these were.
  17. Stupid americsan sports are even less interesting when you're drunk.
  18. It is more likely that future peter (or peter after blowing up and before amnesia) went back in time and bagged Adam. Because unless Adam is an empath, Adam existed in the present time for at least 30 or so years... but Hiro only started meddling a year or so ago. Not convinced Adam is the bad guy. After all, the Company is the one telling us he is. And the people he is killing all did bad things. Parkman's father on the other hand, is a fruitcake. And it makes sense that Adam healed from a charred corpse. Peter healed from exploding inside, claire healed from her brain being sliced open and immense radiation damage - normal flames don't even harm her. It's interesting that Parkman can actually control a person entirely. A puppet master.
  19. I'm replaying Icewind Dale 1. God I love this game. Also have a game of Fallout 2 going, but I got to level 10 and can kill anything with a targetted punch to the eyes in generally two hits. Kinda boring.
  20. Search spiders have been in use for years. That's why you can type something into google and receive cached forum threads as results. With that said, I would contend that google doesn't just browse the index, as Deraldin put forth.
  21. Edited by SteveThaiBinh for purposes of restoring family-friendly nature of forum: Some questions are better left unanswered.
  22. Friend's 20th. Just drank a few litres of goon. Uhg. I had 1 a litre of strawberry milk before-hand. Uhg.
  23. SonicStage is full of oral herpes. My MP3 player failed me with a database error... I'm going to try formatting it then reinstalling the firmware... wish me luck.
  24. You have 3 groups: The social servants - these guys are mainly okay unless you jump out at them, in which case their drugged up bodies will flail at you wildly. Popular choices include crystal meth and cocaine. The bogans - these guys are easy to run into at a bar, even in the more well-to-do areas of the city. Highly unpredictable - ranges from "wanna fight, bitch?" to "hey dude my car is in hospital and I need $20 for my sick brother" (outside mooseheads club at 2am, breath smelling of beer). The uni students - commonly a mix of the 2 groups above with their own distinct holier-than-thou flavour added to the mix.
  25. I think I was talking to myself more than him.
