This is a much bigger thing compared to japan getting aircraft carriers. At least as far as China is concerned. Although I do not understand how this is anything but short term thinking on India's part, even if such a conflict doesn't end by some miracle with the mutual destruction of all parties involved, for sure India would be next on the chopping block.

There is that too. Sadly even in my country that is more and more the case. I'm pretty sure it started with teachers not being able to discipline kids anymore. The schools lost a lot of power and the parents never picked up the slack. Which is not to say that schools were good before, you had a lot of **** who never should have been teachers, but now I think it's even worse.
