  1. Thats a ''Wehrnagel'', its German, ''Wehr'' means to defend or protect, ''Nagel'' means nail/pin/bolt. So its name pretty much indicates what its purpose is, it protects the fingers from getting cut off by enemy blades sliding off the wielders blade when blocking/wrestling. There were many wrestling techniques with swords where the wielders fingers could get hurt/cut off very easily, that eventually lead to the invention of the Wehrnagel, some decades later the basket-hilt was invented for maximum hand protection. I've also heard that the Wehrnagel could be used to disarm the enemy when wrestling, but I'm not entirely sure how this worked. The only problem is I wield two handed swords with the left hand on top even though I'm right handed. No finger protection for me. Except the second ''S'' stands for ''swallow'' - I simply found it too uncomfortable to carry a shovel with me all the time . *edit* More pictures! Polearms!
  2. Here is my Coldsteel replica of the German ''Grosses Kriegsmesser'' - Great war knife. Its a two handed sabre-like ''sword'' from the mid 15th century that is labeled a ''knife'' because swords must have two cutting edges. This one has only one, therefore its not a sword and commoners were allowed to own and carry one back in the medieval age. Only knights were allowed to carry swords. Its my favorite type of sword knife and I'd LOVE to see similar looking blades in PE. Its heavy but very well balanced, quick, and has extreme cutting power like a totally oversized two-handed machete, I imagine one solid hit would cut a man in half. And here is my bastard sword / one-and-a-half handed sword: I totally agree, I'm very happy with the pictures Obsidian has showed us so far, all the artworks showing armors / pieces of armor were excellent.

  4. I hope its at least the size of Baldur's Gate II, but for me there is no limit, the bigger the better.(Thats what she said, yeah I know) I just hate it when games are so short that when the lore, the characters and the world just slowly starts to seep in -BANG- credits roll and kthxbye. That happened to me with all the games I played in the last couple of years. Ok, lets stay realistic and say it should be Baldur's Gate II sized, though I'd love it to be as big as BG2 and ToB combined. That would be perfect.
  5. You're welcome! I thought this thread needs more real-life armor & weapons pics. Maybe they're even a small inspiration for the developers, who knows.
  6. Some more photos I made in the museum; its crazy how sophisticated and perfected the last plate armors were.
  7. Why not? Almost all RPG's feature some sort of plane travel or dream worlds, etc, Baldur's Gate 2 had the planar sphere and the planar prison, Dragon Age has the fade.... Its a good opportunity to make the player explore very dramatic and alien looking environments with odd physical laws and creatures. It adds a lot of variety. Though I don't think that regular plane travel would be a great thing, maybe just a quest or two to keep it mystical and exciting.
  8. I cannot answer that question, I mean, I like each game for different reasons. For example, one of my favorite games ever is Thief the Dark Project, love it because it is still the best first person stealth game ever made, it has great steampunk elements in it and the story is extremely thrilling. Baldur's Gate II, another one of my favorites is a totally different game which I like for completely different reasons like its very tactical combat, the spell system, the beautiful art style, the fleshed out characters etc. I think there is only one thing that is important for me no matter what kind of game it is, and thats immersion. Immersion includes a believable solid plot, consistent world + rules, believable characters and a certain amount of player freedom. Ok, my top ten are: 1. Thief the Dark Project 2. Baldur's Gate II 3. Thief: The Metal Age 4. Mass Effect 3 5. Unreal Tournament 6. Icewind Dale II 7. Icewind Dale I 8. Dragon Age Origins 9 F.E.A.R 10. Return to Castle Wolfenstein
  9. Oh hi Tsuga! Yeah, I finally managed to get my lazy butt up to register to the Obsidian forums. Took me long enough!
  10. Some of my favorite armor photos I made in the Kunsthistorischen Museum in Vienna, Austria:
  11. The concept art (the face) kinda reminds me of one of my favorite Magic The Gathering cards, the Avatar of hope. I like it a lot, very nice.
