I seem to remember someone posted about a way to get the game to work with an 865. Have a search and you should be able to find it. Remember that your graphics card isn't officially supported though, and performance will be slow at best.

Do you experience technical problems with KotOR 2?
adrich81 replied to Adraeus's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
It's not perfect (most of the bugs are software bugs) but it has crashed to desktop a couple of times. -
Here's a few things you could try: Update your motherboard drivers. Try a more recent driver. 61.77 is an old driver and support for the 6600 is dodgy at best. Even 66.93 would be a better bet., but I'd recommend this driver (it's the best I've seen to date and will certainly support your card. I'm not sure how clued up you are with updating drivers, but just in case here's a quick guide: You need to download DriverCleaner Pro first (here) 1. Download the driver (and your chipset drivers if they aren't installed) 2. Uninstall your graphics driver. 3. Boot into safe mode, selecting no when it asks if you want to install a driver. 4. Run driver cleaner (it's pretty self explanatory, only seleect the Nvidia oprion (not nvidia stereo, wdm or nforce) 5. Reboot. 6. Say no to install a new driver. 7.. Run the setup file for the driver you downloaded. This should give you a clean starting point. If the problems persist try booting with only 1 stick of ram. It could be your card is defective. For one reason or another a lot of 6600gts have problems, so you might want to contact the manufacturer. Post back if this doesn't help.

Does anyone know if TSL supports EAX 4? I only see an option for EAX 3 Cheers!

F*** SAKE! WE ARE GETTING IMPATIENT!!
adrich81 replied to ImmortalTechnique's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Legally LucasArts will have them in a very tight corner - games contracts are incredibly restrictive, and it's entirely possible that Obsidian are restricted from discussing features of the game (remember LucasArts actually own the product, Obsidian are contracted to develop it for them). It's entirely possible that they aren't allowed to discuss it. From past experience LA are fine with patching games (unlike some I could mention) but they aren't necessarily quick to do it. I honestly think that since the devs don't post in this forum they aren't allowed to discuss these aspects (or they're keeping the arses covered, which also makes sense) -
I see the PC version has not improved.

Ha the devs are too scared to post here... -
You'll want to reinstall your soundblaster after to make sure that any conflicts have been resolved. Good luck!
-
Could you provide us with a bit more detail about your hardware? Off the top of my head you could try disabling sound and movies in the control applet.
-
Obsidian could learn a whole lot from Bioware's approach to the community. After all this time games like Neverwinter Nights are still being actively supported. They actually interact with the community and keep them posted. It does wonders for their marketing because they have an existing base of customers who know to expect a high level of service from them.

DON'T BUY THIS GAME UNTIL A PATCH IS MADE!!!
adrich81 replied to NICKjnp's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
At the end of the day consumer action isn't soemthing the devs are interested in. It would take a mass boycott, which won't happen as for the majority of people the bugs aren't that bad. The danger with people not buying a game because they want to make a protest about it not being perfect out of the box is that less money will be put into pc games development as the publishers simply see falling demand. I have played very few games that have every worked flawlessly, but that doesn't stop me buying them. Windows never works perfectly and needs constant updating, but that hasn't prevented me from using it. If there is demand for a patch then we should have one in good time. They were quick enough to correct the manual issue, so we know that they are at least attempting some level of post release support. -
It would be nice to see something from them saying they're working on a patch. We seem to get no official (or even semi-official) contact on these boards any more

Are movies fuzzy for the rest of you too?
adrich81 replied to AlanC9's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
This game sadly feels much more like a console port than KOTOR. I suppose it's the price for a rushed release (we should be grateful that the game doesn't run in 640x480 I suppose). Incidentally, do people know how well the PC version is selling? -
EAX not working all of a sudden?!
adrich81 replied to Hardtarget's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Also check that you have hardware sound enabled. You might also want to confirm that EAX is working in other games. If it works in other games then TSL is the problem so reinstall it. If it isn't working in other programs then the problem is with your sound card. -

I think you can manually set eax in the swkotor2.ini file. Just change EAX=0 to EAX=3 -
I have KOTOR for PC IT WONT START!
adrich81 replied to Beover's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
In order to help you wee need to know some basic things about the hardware in the computer you are running. You can find this by typing dxdiag at the run command and clicking the save all button on the program that launches. Open the file that this creates and paste the results here. That'll give us something to work with. -
It is - the only files that are copied during the patch install are pdf documents.

Okay, I'm started to get worried here....
adrich81 replied to odell_2's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Do you know specifically what model sound blaster you have? Sound looping etc may be being caused by a shared IRQ. To check, go into device manager and view resources by connection. Under IRQ, check if there multiple items sharing the IRQ with your soundcard. -

It is sad when the gameplay movies look better than the FMVs - there's really no excuse for that, -
Can't finish the game - crashing

Try an older save? -
Have you tried forcing software sound? Also you could try lowering the level of sound hardware acceleration in cotrol panel. (I posted deatiled instructions earlier inthis thread.) You might also try the original drivers that came with the card.
-
I agree with you about the sound problems being with onboard soundcards, but that's about it. The game doesn't exhibit any signs of a memory leak, mainly performance slowing to a snail's pace after playing for a while or on exiting, as far as I've seen. I also think you're confusing onboard sound cards and onboard graphics cards. Onboard graphics chips share system memory, while a full graphics card has its own memory. Sound cards do not have onboard memory. The difference between onboard sound and a sound card is that a sound card does not depend on software and cpu to work (it has it's own hardware to do things that onboard sound has to do with software). The best solution to sound problems until a patch is released is to lower sound acceleration in control panel to basic (or even none) and run the game with software sound forced with EAX off. You may also have luck with newer or older sound card drivers.

Have you tested your hard disk? I'm not flaming, but it's unlikely that a game would cause these kind of problems, except during the intsall. It's possible your drive is on the way out, and that it just happened to kick in while the game was running. DO you have SMART running on the drive? I'd also recommend a thorough virus and spyware scan.

What he said... No problems on a 6800nu @ 1280x960 w/ 4xaa & 16xaf

Wow - you deserve soething for having the longest post on the board... The first thing with gaming is to disable everything running in the system tray before running the game. (the icons at the bottom right of the screen). These programs, particularly Norton, eat resources, so exit them before you play. (If you're paranoid about getting a virus, unplug your internet connection). The problem you seem to be having in the game is monitor related. All you need to do is reset the picture on your monitor - just adjust the hoizontal and vertical position using the controls on the front of your monitor until all the picture is on screen (ie move the picture left and right - the picture is being drawn, you just don't have it all on screen). Good luck, please post back if you yhave any problems.
-
What drivers do you use with your monitor? Try setiting it as plug and play, default monitor or svga 1024x768 and see if it makes a difference. I have an LG Flatron (17" widescreen) and I have all the the ususal display modes available.
