  1. It doesn't actually use exactly the same engine, it's been tweaked to allow a few extra things, particularly suport for more resolutions (though you have to add them manually). I think they tweaked the 1.0 engine, not whatever the patched engine was...
  2. No the game seems to have occasional problems with movement. Rebinding the keys etc does nothing. The only way around it is either to reload, or interact with something in the game world.
  3. Of course, you only want to do that if you have a recent backup save. Otherwise you'll have a quicksave where you can't move anywhere. Reload solves it for me. Out of curiosity, do you have a Logitech mouse?
  4. Actually I had problems with the updater when the UK "patch" (ha bloody ha) came out. Most of the time it refused to connect or couldn't see it.
  5. @Killuminati Good luck mate - that card will perform far better than any of the ones you were looking at. @6 Foot Invisible Rabbit: He lives in Croatia, so he can't use the rebate, and would have to pay a fortune in shipping (Not to mention that the 5500 is a 5200 with a different name)
  6. Whole lot of Q&A for the patch, considering we've done all the Q&A on the game unpaid...
  7. It depends what games you want to run and what spec the rest o your system is. Out of those cards I'd go for the 9250, but only if it is 128bit, not 64bit. Not sure where you live, but why not get something better off Ebay (even a 4600 ti would own any of those cards you suggested). If you can hold off for a bit, save up for 9550.
  8. You definitely have a point there with laptop gaming. ATI and Nvidia do have their own onboard soluitons which cn perfrom quite respectibly, but sadly most laptops ignore these options
  9. Apart from anything it would stop us being innundated with threads from noobs whinging about when the patch is due.
  10. Not that I've heard of. What context do you mean?
  11. The reason for harware T&L is that doing it in software mode is just way too demanding. It's possible that there is simply an incompatibility with the game that Intel will resolve in a driver update but they can't supplement the lack of hardware support. In all honesty if you do even a small amount of gaming you should get install an agp graphics card. You can pick a 128bit radeon 9550 on newegg for under $70 (or under
  12. It's a great idea! The dev's really should be ashamed of themselves. Is the file still hosted - can't download it.
  13. That's a pretty old card you're running there. You'll see a big difference if you upgrade to something more modern... Otherwise I'd suggest using a much older driver - new drivers may still support a card that old but there will be no optimisations for it. An older driver will be more likelyto be more optimised for that generation of card. Go for something from the 4x.xx or 5x.xx series (get them from the downloads page here)
  14. It's really not acceptable Obsidian. Even if the delay is at LucasArt's end, stop promising something you can't deliver.
  15. Hades One is right in that perfromance will suck on the card. I wonder if the game needs a higher pixel shader level than that card supports (people have similar problems with the geforce 4mx cards, which are similarly poor). Play arund with older and newer drivers - you may get lucky. Failing that the patch may introduce support for a wider rangeof cards (though they'll have their work cut out just introducing support for all the harware that is supposed to be compatible). What spec computer are you running? The obvious alternative is to switch for something supported.
  16. Actually the Xbox 2 is unlikely to be backwards compatible from what I've heard. MS have refused to comment (which they wouldn't have if they could clear it by confirming that it would be). I have to agree with you about NWN though - it really did show what's possible with rpgs (particularly Hordes of the Underdark). I'm waiting to see what they've done with Dragon Age - it'll be a change to move into a new rpg world. LucasArts really do disappoint; I know on the strength of past experience I shouldn't touch another of their products with a barge pole (Rebel Assault 2, Battlegrounds...) Sadly it looks like I'll cave in and give them another last chance with Empire at War (though at least this time I'll do the sensible thing and lurk on the boards for a moth or 2 after release before I part with the cash for it).
  17. The absolute fact is that publishers will not stop releasing games for the pc as long as they are making money from it. It's still a very lucrative market for them. Sure, there have been some feeble ports recently, but I'd go for a poor console port on a pc over playing the same game on a console (eg TSL PC vs XBox).
  18. Try reinstalling the game and updating your sound, graphics and chipset drivers.
  19. Update to the latest driver. Your graphics card isn't officially supported so it may not be capable of running the game even with an update.
  20. Update your sound and graphics drivers and disable movies.
  21. Seeing as we don't know your specs it's dificult to help. Off the top of my head you could try disabling mocies and updating to the latest graphics driver.
  22. It will depend on the bug. Obviously it won't fix game events that have already happened, but the problem may be with events that depend directly on these. I'm not planning on replaying it before the patch is released.
  23. Let's face it - anyone releasing console games with show stopping bugs is shooting themselves in the head. You can't patch the game and odds of people buying again are small. The big gripe I have with consoles is that they are too restrictive. From a hardware perspective you can't upgrade a console so you're stuck with whatever Microsoft or Sony want you to have. With a PC you can customise it to suit your budget and tastes. Far from dying, I think the PC is finally coming into its own. For example, my pc is a games platform, office, hifi and now home theatre. The DVD support on consoles is at best awful and has no hope of replacing a standalone dvd player, whereas a pc can incorporate so many different functions. Given the amount of money generated by pcs (if you include gaming hardware and software) the market is far to lucrative for developers to turn their backs on. The other important advantage of a pc is that it is a unified platform, so any pc game will work on it. With a console, you are tied to that brand. Backwards compatibility is never guaranteed and if the game you want to play is released for the other brand that's just tough.
  24. Actually the new drivers have more options, you just have to select the advanced mode.
