  1. Nationalism is an ideology Bruce... and it's not why wars are fought in modern times. Anyone who thinks that buys into the manipulations and propaganda of those who are behind the war.
  2. There are exceptions to what I stated, hence me writing 'almost never' but they are rare in modern times, and absent from most if not all major conflicts western nations have been involved in. Ideology/religion have played almost no role in almost all wars in the last half century other than to galvanize some support amongst the masses. Most of the folks who are calling the shots in this world at this point really don't give a poop about the peasants and are motivated by greed and power, things such as ideologies and religion are just tools for them to manipulate the peasants into doing what they wish. Most of the exceptions to this can be found in Africa, but even there it's often outside interests (usually European) manipulating the locals in a divide and conquer fashion to gain access to resources.
  3. There's also the little issue of Crimea having large deposits of gas and oil. Like eastern Ukraine. Now guess where "ethnic Russians" are campaigning for a return to the motherland... I hadn't actually realised it was the old oil and gas game, like with Chechnya. Natural Resources and who gets to exploit them is behind the majority of conflicts in the last half century. It's one of the first things one should look for when looking at a brewing war situation like Crimea. Cui Bono and what from? Nationalism, ethnicity, 'spreading democracy', etc are generally just casus belli manufactured for the general public, they almost never are why any nation is actually doing what it's doing.
  4. There are worse places to be stuck. And new wave is good too. A lot of my favorite music is classified as that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qx1XDATyBI
  5. Ooof. I feel like a physics professor that got something from a student that says F= Emc2 / a2 + b2 and 2 + 2 = 7. You know some things, but they're quite jumbled and more than a bit off. As far as physics goes: E=mc2, F=MA, a2 + b2 = c2, and 2 + 2 = 4. As far as what you wrote above goes, that will take quiet a bit more. All but the last two of your bullet points could easily have a much longer post than this response fully disputing what you think many times over. The last two, easily could have long posts explaining to you in detail what's what about them. I don't have time for that, but I'll see what I can do in brief in the next day or two. In the meantime, do us all a favor and go read the U.S. Constitution in it's entirety, the Federalist papers, Anti-Federalist papers, and somehow become more familiar with U.S. history than you are, in particular what lead up to the American Revolution, why what's in the Constitution is there, and why it's important. Doing that should shed some light on some of what you're wrong about above, and why and under what circumstances Obama could and should be impeached, tried, and convicted. Because like him or not, he has purposefully broken a number of laws, Constitutional laws, and big ones. Thinking or saying otherwise is either naivety, ignorance, or delusion. In very short though, the girl is mostly right about what you think she's wrong about. She, an American, has a bit better understanding of what's gone on in her nation that you do. Not to say plenty of Americans also don't have a clue what goes on, many don't, and some foreigners have more than a good idea of what goes on here, you're just not one of them. Anon. I'll follow up later.
  6. I'm guessing you weren't around and listening to music in the 80s? Quiet Riot was not a one hit wonder. A number of their videos got heavy airplay on MTV in the early/mid 80s (the golden age of MTV) and they were a pretty big presence on the metal scene. Here's one of their other hits.
  7. So do I.
  8. How do you watch such a video and come away thinking she has an 'utter lack of understanding'? What exactly does she say that you think indicates she doesn't understand, and what is it she doesn't understand? Enlighten me, as I'm finding it hard to not think most of what she said and presented flew right over your head. That girl is no sage by any means, but she's a helluva lot more with it than most. More awake than most of the folks in this forum, Obama likers or dislikers both. You, and most of the people here could learn a lot from her. Edit: Congrats on watching a video! I'm glad you did. It's a start!
  9. Is there a badge key anywhere that explains what all the badges mean? I've missed it if there is. and /salute stryck9 and any other lurking watchers.
  10. Haven't ever heard of her or seen any of her films. Definitely easy on the eyes. Got a film recommendation?
  11. Who was that hot chica anyways? She certainly wasn't a lego creation.
  12. Alas, Woldan has morphed from a hot chica to a mad lego jester.
  13. Thank you very much for all of your clarifications BAdler, I think you put the concerns raised at ease. I'm glad Obsidian was able to find a company you guys felt was a good match. I look forward to the results.
  14. No one was... You said you were uneasy about the partnership with Paradox because of how Paradox has handled DLC in their games. The only reason to be uneasy about such a thing is if you think that Paradox would have some influence on the DLC creation for Eternity. You are correct in your statement. However do we really need to go over the differences between 'influence' and 'forcing'?
  15. DLC is one the thing that has me a little uneasy about the partnership with Paradox. Only because they have taken to the nickel and diming DLC marketing/additional content strategy for some of their titles in the last couple of years (which has diminished my opinion of them), notably in their Europa Universalis and Crusader Kings franchises. Another strike against Paradox is that they also forced some of their Crusader Kings 2 customers to go to Steam, something they had previously assured their fan base would not happen (something that greatly diminished my opinion of them). I very much hope Obsidian doesn't go that route. On the bright side: I now hope to see commercials of the quality we saw for Crusader Kings 2.
  16. If we have to re-enter, then If we have to re-enter then I resubmit my earlier submission as well. Also, in regards to criteria, my two cents: whoever wins, I'd like to see some references to some of the games that inspired this game in our PoE graveyard(s), such as what I submitted or better. I'm hoping that if not through this contest, someone submits some memorial stones that gives a nod to those that came before. What better use of a memorial stone than to memorialize those that came before?
  17. Do everyone a favor and don't get behind the wheel after drinking a lot of gin please. Hope you changed your mind on this.
  18. I hope to see not only scalable fonts but all aspects of UI scalable, and ideally movable as well.
  19. They are conceptually one and the same, anyone involved in 'public relations' is involved in 'propaganda' and vice versa, the only real difference is how the label is perceived. Go introduce yourself to Edward Bernays. This is of course a pretty subjective thing and dependent on where in which nation you lived. However, if you mean in the manner that most westerners do when they consider the question: the per capita GDP, then no. Russia has a far better per capita GDP than Ukraine (somewhere around double last I checked). GDP can be very misleading however. That aside and all other things considered, I'd take Russia over Ukraine in a heartbeat as a place I'd rather live, though I really wouldn't want to live in either for a variety of reasons (none of which have to do with the people or the hot women living there). I feel sorry for the Ukrainian people, they have for a long while now been used and abused by their neighbors to their west and east, suffering under corrupt leaders on the take from both the west and the east, it's just now reached a boiling point. They're between a rock and a hard place with no real light at the end of their tunnel.
  20. Online dictionaries tend to often give an incorrect/incomplete definition of a great many words, most really. It is a shame and possibly a testament to something sinister that better dictionaries are not readily available on the web. I suggest you get yourself a hard copy of an unabridged dictionary, and if you're really serious about learning about words, one from today and one from three or more decades ago. I've found Webster's to be the superior of the modern dictionaries as it tends to be less susceptible to bias or politics, but any other option should still do oodles better than the relative tripe we find online. Regardless, I'm more than well aware of what you and most of those who would use this word think it means. I'm not here to debate the meaning of 'homophobia', but to point out it has almost no place in a legitimate debate on most anything, no more than the 'n' word does. It's a word primarily meant to divide, conquer, stupefy, insult, and marginalize. Philosophically the word is discussable (as the 'n' word is), but you're not using it in such a manner. I've submitted to you that you are thinking in very shallow terms when you use such a word as you do, but your reaction is to just repeat yourself while emphasizing the false enlightenment using such a word bestows upon yourself and the insult it bestows on others who may disagree with you. "There is no other way to see this form of discrimination." possibly best belies your shallowness of thinking, as yes there is, multiple and most alternatives with much greater depth than you've put forth. I redirect you to my original post that sparked your reply... I have little hope I will pry you out of the box you've let yourself be placed in via these forums, but I do hope you'll find yourself out of it someday. I think you will find that if you do you won't have people thinking you're someone's alt or a caricature. While I do not think you are such a thing, you are indeed one of the most cookie cutter thinkers I've come across, and certainly are the most of the prolific posters on this board in my estimation. 'None but ourselves can free our mind' - Marley 'Niemand ist mehr Sklave, als der sich für frei hält, ohne es zu sein.' - Geothe translation: If you ever get over your aversion to videos and are willing to have much of what you think truly challenged and are wiling to listen to someone discuss some alternatives to your thinking with a little depth, here's a decent place to start: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL981B1FFB9C7A8A67
  21. Yes that is exactly what I meant, I surprised that such a simple point could be so misunderstood by some people I didn't misunderstand it at all. My satire on the ridiculousness of what you stated and the ideas that generated your statement as well as the points I made on the subject in general are apparently lost on both you and Oerwinde.
  22. The MMO market is a sad place these days. The majority of them are WoW clones, with WoW still being the best in regards to polish and end game content out there by far, even though it's a shadow of what it used to be. Blizzard effectively all but completely killed the fun and challenge in leveling years ago, so as Bester mentions above possibly the best MMO experience you'll find is on a private WoW server (though contrary to what he says Blizzard does forbid it, they just don't actively pursue shutting these things down) that is running either Vanilla or BC WoW. Other notable considerations would be: EvE Online is really it's own kind of MMO, and I salute it for that. It's definitely not for everyone though, and it's the most noob unfriendly MMO out there for sure. But it is worth checking out. This game along with WoW are the only MMOs really worth playing long term at this point in time in my opinion. The rest of them are too busy trying to be like WoW (though they all say they aren't. they really are). Both EvE and WoW require a subscription but they really are that much better than the others to justify having one. SW:TOR for the story (leveling up in that game was fun, though I haven't played it since it went Free to Play so perhaps that's not the case anymore). The game is more a like a single player RPG though than an MMO. If you don't want to actually play and have to cooperate with other players much this is probably the MMO for you (unless of course you don't like Star Wars). Once you finish your class's story and reach end game though the content is pretty blah, and aside from the interesting story you get while leveling up this game is a WoW clone through and through. Rift: is probably the best WoW clone out there. The end game has some well designed encounters and leveling up can be fun and challenging. The game lacks the polish that WoW has though, has a lot more 'grind', and has an even less compelling story than WoW does. It's an alternative to WoW, but except arguably in regards to graphics WoW beats it in every category. Everything else I've seen is really just MMO noob central for the most part, and wannabes. Some of the others look pretty for sure, but lack the substance found in the above mentioned games. MMOs aren't for everyone, and if you're going to get good in one you're going to have to invest some time. The best of them though can be fun on a level you won't find in any other video game genre.
