  1. Why would one need to edit poll results? Editing the poll question or some posts, sure, but the results?
  2. Ah, makes sense.
  3. Whats the difference between a normal moderator and a global moderator. Global mods lord over the regular mods?
  4. I put a lot of energy into my staff too. hurhur.
  5. I defer to your experience but according to this chart they arent doing too bad. Of course Im not sure what youre referring to by "working counterparts".
  6. *sigh* I guess I sould have seen this degenerating into niggling over hours. My 280 hours estimate was based on a 9 month working year for teachers which Hurlshot has corrected to a 10 month working year.
  7. Thats not the point. A "working year" is 2080 hours (52 weeks x 40 hours per week). Whether you take work home, work longer hours because your job requires it, get an extra day off, call in sick, take vacation, etc... is all immaterial. If you are on a salary you pay doesnt change no matter how much or little you work. So with that in mind, a teachers "working year" is approximately 1440 hours due to the fact they have the summer break off. AFAIK, any teaching, coaching, etc... that occurs over the summer is voluntary and compensated with additional monies because, well, its a second job.
  8. Yes, and for those that cant count, thats still 280 hours less per year then the rest of the country. I think maybe my terminology of "they only work 9 months" may be being unintentionally abrasive. Im strictly looking at salary / hours worked per year. I personally think teachers have the second most important job in the country right behind the police force.
  9. Teachers only work 9 months per year. Unless your position is that those nine months are so packed with hours they make up for the 480 working hours of the remaining 3 months?
  10. According to this Wall Street Journal article from 2007, your assumtion is wrong. Teachers salaries are based on a nine month contract so the average is based on that. Any additional work is above and beyond that. Incorrect, see link in this post.
  11. But if you compare teachers to other highly educated fields, they are way behind the average. Teaching requires a four year degree and at least a year of graduate work. It also requires continuing education units in order to maintain a teaching credential. As for taks and Aristes, I'm really not disagreeing with you. It's not a perfect system, there are major flaws. I'm just not sure what the alternative is. I'm not a big fan of my union, but I'm also not a big fan of my district office. It's basically fighting fire with fire, but the alternative of no unions is much worse in my opinion. I have to disagree. If you look further down the "Personal income" link it states: Persons, age 25+, employed full time, with a Bachelors, average $50,944.00. So, only an average of $2,400.00 more than a teachers average. Im really not trying to bash you or any other teacher, I just dont get it. I mean, I get we all want more, more, more (see unionized autoworkers) but I dont get how acting underpaid in relation to others of the same level helps when it doesnt seem to bear out to the facts.
  12. You know, I just dont understand where teachers are coming from wrt the incessant bitching about their pay. If we look at the average income of full time adults in the U.S. we see that number comes to $39,336.00. Now lets look at the average U.S. teachers salary and we see that number is $47,602.00 and that was two years ago. So, not only do they earn vastly more per year then the average U.S. citizen but they also only work 9 months per year! If they want more how about they get a part time job during their break to suppliment their income instead of sitting on the couth scratching their nuts for 3 months?
  13. ^Im curious, how would you justify the examples of people ridiculously overpaid. You honestly feel an autoworker is worth 89/hour? Unions were necessary years ago before laws and regulations were mandated to set an hours per week limit / benefits / etc..., now they are just an anchor around the neck of any employer that has to deal with them.

I hate scorpions. They freak me out and every one Ive ever seen has ended in a pulpy mess. Im cool with spider and will let them freely roam as long as they dont come below eye level. I call that my "eye level rule". Clever huh?
  15. Isnt that the very concept Kaftan Barlast and his group are working on?
  16. speak for yourself: i'm still using a cassette tape drive. I hear SoZ comes in a 4096 cassette tapes version. Lol. I wound up snagging a portable DVD from work to install WotLK. I was going to buy a new DVD since they are fairly cheap but in the end I figured why waste the money, especially since WotLK is a one-time install that doesnt require the disk to play.
  17. Then let me introduce you to Scanners.
  18. I dont have anything to add, I just felt left out of the group without adding: ~G1
  19. Wow, a lot of good responces. Guess its my turn. You're young and in college. For Christ sake man, go out, get liquored up, find some equally liquored up hottie, take her home. Repeat as necessary. Maybe get some food somewhere in the middle there.
  20. By far, Im the cleaner of the two of us (my wife and I). Shes not so much a "slob" as Im a bit anal, I cant stand it when there's clutter all over the place. Shes got no problem leaving a sink full of dishes but the one that really gets me is she will just drop her dirty laundry on the master bathroom floor two inches away from the hamper. I mean its right friggin there, is it asking too much to lift the lid and drop it in there instead of on the floor in front of it?
  21. You guys cant even have BB guns over there can you? Could have solved that problem for around $50.00 and a garbage bag.
  22. Not just her best movie, but the bestest movie ever! +1
  23. I havent made a DK yet and probably wont untill my mage gets to 80, although you guys have me intrigued with the DK starting area. I was really pleasantly surprised with how smoothly the installation and updating went. No hassles, no errors, no server lag. Blizzard really had their sh*t wired tight for this launch and I find that to be a breath of fresh air. It wasnt even crowded in the new starting areas and I was able to easily complete quests.
  24. 3h 26m left. Not that Im staring holes in the wall clock or anything....
