Body Types and video games
My take on this is that its just the natural evolution of the old "entertainment medium X is harming our youth". Back in the 60's / 70's rock-n-roll or Elvis the Pelvis was scandalous, in the 80's / 90's claims that playing D&D could make you "evil", then through the 90's / 2000's there was that lawyer advocating that violent games could make you violent, now we see claims of over-sexualization makes people feel bad / inferior. Im not saying any of these are true or false, just that there seems to be a trend.

On PE difficulty mechanics, objective xp and combat, stealth, sweet-talking
At least BG1 has respawning enemies in several places. And in BG2 there was spawning enemies in several places when you rested. Hmm, I cant point my finger to a single occasion but its been years since I played either. In BG2, are you referring to random encounters that could spring up when you tried to rest? I wouldn't consider that respawning enemies that you can sit there and farm. EDIT: @Yonjuro: That's what I thought, not true respawning, just random encounters.

Honest question because I cant remember, can anyone point to any IE game that had respawning enemies?

Leveling up
Iirc, there is almost no stat improvements on level up. Sounds like it will all be gear / skills driven.

Can I even handle a game like PE any longer? Well, I sure hope so!
Just fyi, 1) Stamina automatically regenerates but maybe you meant Health? 2) Spells and abilities automatically replenish via cooldown. 3) Inventory is unlimited. 4) Havent read anything about ammo but would not be surprised if its also unlimited. 5) Strongholds take money to fix up but I don't remember a recurring carrying cost. Link? So yes, if after battle your weapons and armor repaired themselves then it would be the same as your examples. Otherwise, not at all.

What are you playing now?
Clash of Clans on iOS. Its strangely addictive building up my village.

Good question. Maybe they will simply increase the Speech skill check requirement?

Critical hits and permanent effects
Isnt there a similar system already in place? Iirc, when you lose all your Health and "die", you wake back up with some "disability" that can only be rectified by going back to a rest spot.

What you did today
Nothing too extreme. My wife won an all expenses paid trip from her work so airfare, hotel, food and alcohol were all covered. Night one was the House of Blues in Mandalay Bay, night two was Javier's in Aria, and night three was Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville, which by far was the most fun of the three. Good times and I even managed to get out of there only down $100 in gambling. Also took in a comedy show called Defending the Caveman, which was pretty hilarious.

Got back from Las Vegas last night. I was going to take today off too just to recover but I decided to come to work and save a day. Had a great time and managed to not lose too much money.

You don't have the PE Backer Badge yet. Have you completed the Pledge Management process?

Shockingly, you miss the point and create some silly example that cant possibly exist. If, somehow, only one party member takes damage during battles then yes, you can venture on. Meanwhile in reality, every party member is going to take damage every single battle and no, I don't think its a case of simply being "unlucky" that will quickly put the whole of your party in the above mentioned state. As always, a tl;dr response is appreciated. My backing of PE can be confirmed by observing the two badges under my avatar. I bought into PE while still excited about Obsidian creating a game (mostly) like the IE games of yore but before these special touches were announced. However, like PIP-Clownboy, I am excited about the stronghold. Also, I look forward to the story. I just hope I don't wind up shelving the game a few hours in because of the mechanics. And regardless of whether or not I like the final product, I do hope it is a success for Obsidian.

It baffles you that someone may like a game you don't? You have a very limited scope of understanding. Again, what Im not interested in are game mechanics that serve no purpose but to punish. Anyone that can read this quote and think "that sounds like great fun" baffle me: Your party members can be rendered useless after one "unlucky" fight, forcing you to go back to a rest spot. Awesome! Cant wait to see what happens to the squishy classes. Whats the point of that? Ill guess the response will be "tactics". Etc, etc...

Interesting topic and Ive been wondering if cRPG's are for me anymore. I play the hell out of aRPG's (I probably have close to 1000 hours invested across all my characters in D3) but when I read about PE I get really discouraged as, IMO, it sounds like total drek. I haven't liked a single mechanic so far and to me it seems like they threw out fun for the sake of "tactics". I am in no way interested in mechanics that are the same but with a twist to just to kick you in the junk. Meh, TBH, I don't think Ive liked a D&D system since 2.5E but Ive never tried Pathfinder or the like so maybe I would enjoy those systems. Ive got my fingers (and toes) crossed that Divinity turns out to be the game I was hoping PE would be.
