  3. Okay I need some Geckling know how ... here's the skinny ... The SFF SD37P2 is on the Intel 975X platform that is supposed to be able to use 533/667/800 mhz DDR2. the SFF is capable - at the moment - of only 533/667. Long story short, I know they may be releasing a future BIOS for 800. I want to go ahead and purchase the rig this week (my partner and I have been sharing the notebook and we need our space now ). So ... there's no guarantee the 800 will run on the SFF ... so should I go with the 667 or get the 800 and down-clock it? Thoughts on Conroe and performance levels when not doing excessive o/c? A current discussion I have going for background: [H]ard|Forum
  4. Well I think that we have indeed at the end of this thread. I'll be seeing a few poeple shortly. Remember, making it personal, resorting to flaming and baiting is not tolerable. Please reflect on this the next time you feel emotions overwhelming what you are typing.
  5. I believe that we have arrived at the terminus point ... please exit at the centre of the bus ...
  6. Perhaps it is not a matter of refuted or debating - one's POV is not necessarily up to be changed, but there may be a place to see another's POV, even should you not share it. The difference is being able to hear another person without feeling their perception is an attack on your own. If we cannot discuss the topic at hand without civility, perhaps it is time to move on ...
  7. Thread Pruned: Could we TRY not to make such discussions personal? If we can't do that, I guess it's time to swish the tail again ...
  8. Geckling Links (Open Source Games) Wikipedia Thread to discuss games is here in C&C.
  9. Wikipedia Note: I've also added this to the The Tech Files under the Geckling Links. Has anyone had any experience with any of these games?

  11. Welcome back Ludozee - enjoy your hiatus from AO here in the sandbaox
  12. Take care Krookie. My very best and prayers to you, your mom and your relations in what must be a difficult time.
  13. Conroe 2 is so cool that I should be able to o/c the e6600 in my SFF to 3.0 ghz on air - definitely impressive. Thanks to AMD 5 years ago pushing Intel hard!
  14. Thanks Diamond & meta - I appreciate seeing that I think my rough layperson's understanding is not too off the mark ... I am also grateful for the manner in which you both described what I think could be much more obtuse ... perhaps you should both write for cNet?
  15. Flat cases ... good idea I think that is one of the reason I have finally migrated to a SFF. A little bit more, but much more quiet and sleek ... the cooler is just insane ...
  16. Thread Pruned: Reminder don't post if you have nothing constructive to add.

  18. AnandTech The board definitely is geared at the enthusiast market ... that cooler is HUGE!
  19. But a math coprocessor would be different than a PPU - or is the reference to parallel that something similar has been done previously?
  20. Really? Do you have a link for that information? I think I will stick with XP - apparently after Vista is released SP3 for XP will be issued. Sort of like the reluctance of people after XP was released to leave 2k (especially as an SP followed). History repeating itself I suspect.
  21. 1. Indeed is more than likely. I think the mainstream adoption will be in new pre-installed OSes. I am definitely not going to consider migrating until SP1. And - if at all possible - this may be the first time in 10 years that another OS (Linux?) may grace a req for a game ... and then the competition is really on! /wishful thinking?
  22. Yeah I saw this article too. I personally feel that what the PhysX anomaly will do will either push mobo/cpu designers to integrate or video cards to add on. The PC is moving, imo, toward tighter integration, not more add-ons. so, my prediction, the PhysX longevity lies in exhibiting enough performance increase that: a) someone buys them out to integrate (a la Voodoo), or; b) one of the big corps takes the ideas an creates their own integrated model. the fact is that, imo, bang for the buck comes with either a better GPU or CPU. The good thing is that this a tech that will push innovation, just not ultimately as a stand alone item ... or so I think
  23. And time it with thelikely Civ 4 expansion - that would be pretty much what got me excited with the Complete Valve relase over Steam (all HL up to HL2 Exp1).
  24. So perhaps that means that Vista is one large corporate attempt to perform a global DNS attack! Seriously though - I do find such reporting problematic. It continues to reinforce the myth that technology is dangerous. But then again, dry by the 'fact' journalism would fail to make money otherwise ... :?
  25. And correct me if I am wrong - but IPv6 is intended more of a commercial conduit, as 4 is felt to be too 'free.' That's my own language, but I hope it conveys some of my understanding in this regard. So in essence, the slowing of 4 would have to do with the fact that more corporate/commercial sites may be transferred to that protocol - is that a reasonable lay-person's description?
