Is it possible to edit a scanned pdf file?
Kaftan Barlast replied to ramza's topic in Skeeter's Junkyard
both of these documents show up as completely blank in my reader, are you sure theyre working? -
And what happens in 2 years when SecuRom decides they dont want to support this system anymore, and thus shuts down the authentication servers? There will be alot of people with alot of completely useless copies of a game they cant play anymore, thats what. And thats all it will accomplish, because the game will be cracked and people will download it of torrent sites anyway. Its understandable that EA are scared witless of piracy, but this is the wrong way to go.

One thing I hate about rockstar games is that they refuse to use a normal save system. Ive been playing the same dirty mission now for over an hour, constantly having to go back and replay 10min of stuff over and over again because the game wont let me save when i want to. its really beginning to frustrate me.

Well, once they find a way to shut down major torrent sites, we will see a drop in piracy that you wouldnt believe. We have the "scene" pirates, those are way too clever to ever get rid off, but they are such a small group that theyre not really doing any damage. The group that does the damage is the average guy who sends his xbox to get chipped, and then goes to the pirate bay to easily download anything he wants. Once you take away the option of "casual piracy" you've defeated the threat of piracy. People have been trying for years and years to stop piracy in the wrong end without success, its not the guy cracking the software thats doing the damage, its the people who makes it possible for normal people to download it and use it.

The store was sold out... can you believe that?! Even the friggin' PS3 version was gone by the time we got there.
-
I believe you hit your head on the nail there. Of all my friends, only me and another guy had the muscle needed to actually enjoy Crysis. It wasnt just a matter of looks, I believe the physics and many other things suffered considerably when playing it on low settings. There wa also the question of launch date, Crysis had to wrestle with some MAJOR heavy-hitters like CoD4, Gears of war and Assassins Creed on release. Not alot of peope chose to spend their money on Crysis. Cross-platform is the way to go, IMO. The more possible customers you have, the better. You might need to outsource the "porting" to other companies, but its probably worth it. You have 250+ million PC users, 19 million Xboxers and 13 million PS3's out there to sell to

We're going to the supermarket today to pick up our legal commercial copies today after work. Hooray!

Still, it would have been the most sound bussiness strategy to actually do go ahead and release it early as a form of damage control. I know that over here, noone with a hacked 360 chose NOT to download it and play it over the weekend. There no saying if some of those people would have bought it on release if there hadnt been a pirated version, but T2 has theoreticly missed some revenue because of this. But despite piracy or ridicilously inflated review score, GTA4 will sell a gazillion bloody copies when the day is done.
-
If you didnt know, T2 issued the following release last week http://bp1.blogger.com/_ejVhPSXllX0/SBDF2a.../27ywepcmr8.jpg GTAIV has been unofficially available in all stores with copies in stock since the 24th

It could be worse, yuou COULD be living in Australia where the game wont be released for atleast another 35 years As in it looks like it was made 10 years ago or as in the graphics are technologically good but they didn't do anything with it? Rockstar have never been on the frontier when it comes to game graphics, and GTA4 follows that same line. Its several years behind the cutting edge, but theres nothing that bothers you as a player. It works, and thats all there is too it.

As the only one actually having tested the game, I shall make a short personal review. On the Kaftan scale, GTA4 gets the following score Story: Very good Gameplay: Very good Graphics : Adequate Sound : Adequate the scale goes form left to right: bad - adequate - good - very good - outstanding

Kaftan's development thread of doom

Sunday April 27th Today I had to make an emergency hangover trip to the office because a programmer desperately needed a collision mesh to a character, only, it turns out we already had one and there is no need whatsoever for me to be here. Yay! -
The rating system of virtually all sites and mags is completely off aswell. It says its like 1-10 but in reality they will never ever give an AAA title a lower scoree than 7, no matter how piss-poor it might be. And lower-budget games never get a lower score than 4. All thats sets a very high average
-
To refine the point I was trying to make earlier, IGN will give the score they're being paid to give it. If a publisher spens millions of dollars on PR, they pretty much expect all major gaming mags to give the game top scores, and if they dont there will be hell to pay. Gaming mags live in a symbiosis with the publishers, in exchange for good reviews they will get advance sneak peaks, interviews with devs etc. If they dont play ball, they wont get sh*t and thus they will have nothing to write about. If you want honest reviews, you'll have to go to non-profit independant sites. Never ever trust major gaming mags or sites.
-
Thats the symbiosis between publisher and gaming mag right there. Ive played GTA4 and while its loads of fun and has a cool story, its not gods gift to man. I mean, its definently the best GTA so far and one of the best three games to come out this year but its not a perfect 10.

I have no idea what this guy is talking about.

Kaftan's development thread of doom
Kaftan Barlast replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Developers' Corner
Sorry I havent kept this up to date the last weeks, Ive been busy doing mostly nothing. The game is comming along nicely although we have set our priorities wrong, one guy has almost completed the GUI but no one has even touched actually shooting stuff yet and so on. We have tried Modo actually, one of the lads have been using it on and off for a year now. I havent had much time to try it out, but I have done some texturing work(it works alot like Maxon Bodypaint except a bit more complex). It seems like a very intuitive and user-friendly program with alot of cool features. We're starting to get sick of our software setup. Max is a very old piece of software with alot of annyoing quirks and lacks alot of convenient functions newer software like XSI or Modo has. Im also going to kick out Zbrush3 in favor of Mudbox, because its just so much easier to work and live with. Zbrush is like a crapload of features thrown in a big random unstable pile, completely devoid of logic. I exaggerate, but alot of time it like trying to fit a square peg into an oval hole. -
But why did you choose the Navy?
-
Thats exactly how our apartments are, and the alarms usd to be connected in the whole neighbourhood so that every siren in every apartment went off whenever the hyper-sensitive sensors went off. It was just every 3rd day though, until they simplu turned them off and cut the lines connecting the buildings.
-
They moved from 3,5 to 2,5 in order to fit the cooler, or so Ive heard.
-
But its faster, quieter and runs cooler thus conserving electricity
-
Its worse when your neighbour is making chicken at 5 in the morning and the sensor in his apartment is connected to every alarm in the building.

Or you could just install a mod* that fixes the lack of balance and feel in weapon accuracy etc. and makes the game really shine. Its kind of odd that some kids on the internet can do in a weekend what a whole bunch of Ukranian designers(with the help of outside consultants) couldnt do in years. Unless it was a deliberate design choise and the Ukranians actually enjoy having to pump an entire clip at point blank range into an enemy to even have a chance of wounding him. *really just a different config text file
