  1. The speed is for my games, the extra RAM is for running extremely un-optimized game builds which tend to put a crapload of stuff into the memory. And also, whatever-gen games like crysis really do use obnoxious amounts of video ram.
  2. The 200-series are not dual cards are they? And so do they actually use all their ram? the 260 with 850mb of ram seems to be a friggin sweet deal. Being a CG person, I need as much memory on my card as technicly possible.
  3. I was wondering something related; dual GFX in SLi or Crossfire only use the memory from one of the cards, is that also true of dual cards like the 9800gx2?
  4. 87C on full load is bloody hot! Reminds me of the old days of the AMD thunderbird Thats not including Mass Effect, is it? That game requires some serious hardware to run properly.
  5. I took the mako out for a spin on the PC version and I was delighted to find that its now completely controllable. On the 360, it always steers where youre aiming instead of having steering and aiming indpendant of eachother as is the norm. I wonder if the 360 controls were a result of hardware constraints or just plain bad design.
  6. The only way to make a minigame fun is to make it a bit more complicated and a bit more challenging, but then you'll have your producer shouting about "casual players" and you're back to square one.
  7. My first reaction to this was to wonder just what the hell our politicians are thinking. Apart from being a gross violation of our rights and the first thing Ive ever classified as plain "unswedish", there is absolutely no need or practical function for this law. There is no terrorist threat whatsoever, even bin laden himself once used Sweden as an example of a country so insignificant that al-qaeda would never ever bother. And even if there was a threat, the system has been deemed useless by experts in the intelligence field, as the volume of information is too high and that it cant bypass even the simplest forms of encryption. A supposed terrorist would have to write something like: "at 13:45 on tuesday the 12th of august 2008, im going to release sarine gas at Pillesnoppv
  8. Smelly programmer. I like that BioWare made the effort to replace that old thing with something that atleast vaguely resembles a game. Ye olde "push the button flashing on the screen" was just plain retarded. Although I wouldnt have made a minigame out of it in the first place, just a simple skillcheck.
  9. Yay!! I have to wait a while for mine to actually go through, but Im going to take a masters aswell so Ive still got work to do
  10. Nope, thats raw. And weve also discovered that the programmers have included lots of garbage* in there, so it should be around 100mb compressed in the end * work files, PSD's, max files, tga textures, old crap and even zbrush tool files. I dont know how that happened, but then again we've had worse.
  11. The 360 version didnt even have a minigame, did it? It was just a question of pressing ABXY quickly in the right order.
  12. I put in the new PSU and to my great surprise its even quieter than my old Antec, which is very good. I dont have the hardware to push the power so I dont know what it sounds like at full blast, though. Running two 7800GTX in SLi works rather well, and now I can run every game in full 1980x1200 without a hitch. The problem is running both my screens in dualview, I tried it but that resulted in windows freezing up until i finally started in safemode, removed my drivers and the second card, and then started again with just one monitor.
  13. You need tons and more tons of RAM to do high-res renderings, simulations and some other neat stuff.
  14. I went for the PSU, a corsair 650w that can deliver 52a at 12v
  15. Why did you get a 1000watt PSU? Thats crazy amounts of power thats only necessary with quad-SLi or if you plan to use a dozen hardrives spinning 24/day
  16. I think we will be able to put the demo/vertical/slice/whatever up for download soon. Its a bit large, around 500mb, so we need to get a good host sorted and all that before we can do that,
  17. This is probably the dumbest dilemma Ive had for a while but the thing is that I have an amount of money, and thes two objects cost the same and will probably bring about the same amount of fun. 1. The wheel - Forza2 got me seriously hooked on racing games and this would be an awesome thing to have. It can connect to the PC aswell with a thingie dongle. 2. The PSU - I have a giant 1920x1200 screen and two Geforce 7800GTX lying around, but I cant use both of them in SLi bcause I dont have the power. I need a bigger PSU. If I could use both, I would see perhaps 25% performance increase in most games, and I would be able to play Mass Effect on full 1920x1200. It would also be useful in the future I cant decide which would be more fun. Can you help me?
  18. I tried it a bit oh my computer and its alot slower than Unreal3, there is something inside ME that does not go well with 1920x1200. Granted, Im not exactly using a top notch card.
  19. Ive been gone a while but here's the story: we got everything working fine for the convention without that much trouble. We actually had probably THE most stable demo in the hall, not even this crazy QA lad we know from starbreeze could break it. We also got a tiny award that came with complimentary tshirts, random abuse and as much bananas as we could eat. PHOTOS!! http://gallery.ulfben.com/2008/06/The-Exhibit/ http://gallery.ulfben.com/2008/06/The-Awards/ http://gallery.ulfben.com/2008/06/The-Party/ Currently, we're just resting and taking a break. But now that we've tried out at a small convention, we will be going to the real deal GDC in Leipzig august 18-20th to promote the university and fish for a publisher.
  20. I think I would get annoyed aswell if my island suddenly became synonymous with carpetlickers. The years of endless ridicule, the constant streams of sightseeing flanel-wearing, crewcut butches. Being an islander meself, I sympathize with these poor greekians. p.s Lesbians are gay.
  21. Its impossible to create a custom male head that looks decent in ME, so I play as a chick. I always play the prettiest choice available, whatver the sex or race is.
  22. Crysis was a good shooter, a really cool techincal achievemnt and I liked it alot. I was looking forward to the sequel even as I was playing the game. And with over a million copies sold, it was an economical success aswell. Now, Ive heard alot of complaints about it in comparison to FarCry and they all come from people with subpar computers. Im beginning to believe that playing it on low settings doesnt just affect the graphics but impacts the gameplay heavily as well. The physics on my desktop computer are WAY better than on my laptop. I think that accounts for alot of the muttering. The same people also claim you hav to empty half a clip into the head of an enemy just to get him own, while on my computer it takes no more than 2-3rounds center mass to kill an enemy soldier
  23. I think it would be nice if more games came with behind-the-scenes and developers commentary, then normal people would be able to get a sense of how immensely complex the tiniest feature can be. Ive been doing loads of rigging and animation work, and even thinking about features like those crashgirl suggested gives me a headache. I thought it was simply amazing how smoothly ME handled it
