  1. MW2 is built on the old Quake3 engine so thats a no-brainer. But BFBC was friggin awesome, this should just be more of the same. And finally EA stopped being insane and realised that a classic non-consoleish FPS should be released for PC aswell. The first game was like: "We have a super mario platform jumping game wth waggle elements... I have a great idea, lets NOT release it on the Wii"
  2. ... The alt of the former mod authority? Authority was the best mod ever, and he totally was not an alt.
  3. I think this guy is just crying wolf. Up until the financial crisis, the games industry was selling more than ever. And even now, sales records are broken with MW2 for example. The problem is that you cant expect a perpetual constant increase in sales, because people dont go out and by a new PS3 with 5 games every christmas. Its like how the music industry got a heart attack when CD sales started to level out because people had finally replaced their old vinyls with CDs and only bought the occasional album now and then. I think my argument might need a more thorough explanation, but I cant be bothered.
  4. I knew it! I always feel much healthier after a nice pint.
  5. Wait a second. This doesn't add up. Is there a super secret extra alt? He is... on to us.
  6. There are 12 alts in total, 8 are known... BUT WHO ARE THE FINAL FIVE?!?! It could be me, you, that guy over there! We wouldnt know if we were alts until its too late *freaks out*
  7. Merchandise games never* get AAA treatment so that wasnt much of a surprise. They know that we know that they're only trying to peddle crap in order to make money by exploiting a known IP, so why bother to make it good? *except for Wolverine, where Ravensoft just went nuts and did a real game
  8. http://www.quibblo.com/quiz/b9xtptx/Kaftan...nality-detector It's not a forum personality quiz though!
  9. Its like how I actually picture mkreku as a man with a giant red beard and blue cap. srsly guys.
  10. I wanna be Taks, because he is the most advanced troll we have.
  11. Botswana is hardly the peachy place you make it out to be, they still have massive poverty and starvation http://ipsnews.net/news.asp?idnews=36171 Outsourcing abroad is one of the most significant threats to the economic well-being of western nations. As companies move production to third world countires (and administration to the usual intenational grey area) unemployment skyrockets causing a massive drop in consumption, which is bad for bussiness, and taxes which is bad for both goverment and people. Some people do find employment elsewhere, but there is no way everyone can be reabsorbed into the job market. My home town was turned into a virtual ghost town once the two major employers moved abroad, and that happens all over the world. The effect in the exploited countries is perhaps even worse, they raise the standard of living and when they leave they pull the rug from out under society causing a complete collapse of society. From a longterm perspective, outsourcing will eventually cause a severe economic crisis as there are no longer enough people working to be able to consume enough products. Although its more likely we will se a collapse before then as goverments are no longer able to manage the increasing unemployment. And at that time, people like LoF will grab their pitchforks and party like its 1789 again
  12. To get the thread back on its rails again: First of all; A sustained and constant increase in profits is impossible, so any system that has that as a prerequisite to function is inherently broken. So thats another thing we need to fix before we're killed by our own economy. But even so, I doubt a decrease in profit or even a loss causes people to dump your stocks. That occurs when people believe your company is about to crash and burn, which is the direct opposite of how EA and the rest of the games industry is doing even in this severe recession. What I was saying here in the first post was that large companies should be held accountable for the economic damages they cause society, and that we should make it alot harder for them to wreak havoc by behaving irresponsably by, for instance, laying off workers when the company isnt losing money. It seems like common sense to me. And the main reason to why we havent made steps in this direction yet, is that big bussiness have and will spend billions to remain unaccountable. A recent survey http://www.globescan.com/news_archives/bbc2009_berlin_wall/ shows that Im far from the only one who is sceptical towards free-market capitalism and pro regulations. We are actually in the majority, even in the US only 25% of the people asked agreed that the system was working well. 23% of all the people worldwide even went as far as to say capitalism is a fatally flawed system.
  13. Nightie, old chap... I dont think you've actually played the same game as the rest of us.
  14. What makes it such a great game is not some novelty feature or other unique thing, what makes it great is the incredible attention to detail and polish. Nothing has been left to chance, from level design to the sound. It may be just a steak with potatoes, but its one of the most perfectly cooked steaks you've ever had.
  15. I wonder if this is what alcoholics were doing during the prohibition era? DRINK SCOTCH EVERY DAY 420 YEAAAH!!!
  16. A big fat fireball in their face is really good aswell, most mages cant take that much damage so theyll burn to death while on the ground
  17. So you LIKE having to run around picking up magic healthboxes and having to restart a level because you got to a checkpoint with too little health to make it through the the fight? You're nutter, thats what you are. Masochist. That's just because you're a smelly hippie druid type who reeks of organic vegetables and whalesong CD's. I blow my nose in your general direction, good sir!
  18. MW2 doesnt need hype, I was going to wait a while to get it but a good friend of mine went "buy it.. NOW" in a scary way so I had to, and it was the essence of awesomeness.
  19. BEST FPS EVER. And Im actually quite serious. It's awfully close to being the perfect shooter. Im still shaking from excitement, I just couldnt stop playing "just one more mission". And the rumours about the multiplayer are kind of exaggerated, you can play private games and everything.
  20. My party is player(mage), alistair, lleleleilalana and wynn. Its crap when it comes to combat but they have more interesting things to say. ...the Antonio Banderas meets Legolas elf has fun voiceovers, but I hate elves and he's useless. And do you ever find out if/how/why Sten killed that family? (sten is a very common swedish name btw.. meaning stone/pebble/rock. its not very cool)
  21. Ok, Ill try to make a clearer example scenario 1: company B buys a patch of land and uses it to dump toxic waste and motivates it by "its our land, we can do whatever we want with it". scenario 2: company A fires 3000 people and makes the remaining employees work themselves to death to make up the slack and motivates it by "its our company and we just want to make a profit". I dont think anyone would say 1 was alright, but most of you would be fine with 2. Why is that?
  22. I thought id start this topic not to hijack the "EA fires 1500 people to increase profit" thread. The title quote is the old saying that Ben parker tells Peter in spiderman. It's a rephrasing of an older arguments on the ethics of goverment. In the EA thread, I said that I think it should be illegal for a company to fire employees for economic reasons if the company is making profit. I believe that any entity with the kind of weight EA has, needs to take greater responsability than an individual because the consequences of their actions are so great. Our society is built on a cycle of labour and consumption; people work to get money in order to buy stuff and pay taxes, which creates a flow of capital that allows society to function. When people become unemployed, they cant consume and pay taxes, resulting in a decrease in the flow which is harmful for every single person from corporate CEO to wellfare-reciever. So when a company like EA fires people en masse for a slight increase in profits, they are doing alot of damage which cant be compensated just by the taxes on their profits or the 'trickle-down effect'. Are we just supposed to sit and allow this to happen? Im all for individual liberty and the freedom to pursue profits thrugh bussiness, but when companies are casually destroying our society without taking any responsability for the consequences, we have to step in and put our feet down. Its not socialism, its just common sense and self-preservation. We dont allow them to destroy the enviroment for profit anymore, so why should we keep allowing them to do that to society?
  23. Morrigan is really annoying though, do they have to have snotty, stuck-up jerks in every biogame?
  24. That depends on how anal you are, I dont use any fancy combinations or anything, just blasting away with fireballs and lightning and so on. and then the game is quite hard. A revenant only goes down with alot of potion drinking
  25. The thing is that they're not firing people because they're running a loss, they just believe that the second half of 2009 will earn them less profits than they had estimated. So it's evil, alright. Im kind of hardcore when it comes to labour issues, but I wholeheartedly say that it should be illegal of a company to lay off employees for economic reasons as long as the company is running a profit. Its far more important for society as a whole that people are employed, than for a big company to increase their short-term profits.
