Forced to play an Anime RPG
Kaftan Barlast replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Pen-and-Paper Gaming
Anyone who hasnt noticed the fact that the japanese often moan or grunt instead of speaking in their cartoons, cant have been paying attention. The state rings evidence #1 The second episode of TRANSFORMERS:ARMADA in which there is a long sequence where the children encounter "Meggatronu!" in which they moan "Ooooaah?" and he grunts "Hrrnnn" for several minutes. Im against dubbing for real films (Learn to READ you lazy bastards) but since cartoons are dubbed in the first place, it is of no consequence whatsoever. Especially if the english voice actors sound much less silly than their japanese counterpparts. ..and I find Engrish extremely offensive to my ears. -
Forced to play an Anime RPG
Kaftan Barlast replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Pen-and-Paper Gaming
I think Ill pass the campaign though. I have no interest in Anime/Manga so it would be completely pointless for me to play a game that plays with clich -
Despite being more and more antijapanese for every day, I watched this film too. At first you are fooled to believe it has some sort of depth but its really just the old "The badguys want to awaken the ancient evil again.." Although I understand Sepiroth had only been dead a few years. p,s And I couldnt tell the two long-haired villains from eachother.. nor did I figure out if they were male or female until about an hour into the film.

To my horror, my playing group have got their hands on an RPG which should never have seen the light of day; Bessen, an RPG to let you play out all your filthy Anime prevertions with your friends. Anything from Final Fantasy to tentacle-rape galore.. its there I wanted to try GURPS modern or Rolemaster but Ive been overruled with this monstrosity. Thus, I have no other choice but to try and have fun.. by ruining for the other players To my help I have the only Anime I can tolerate: Silverfang GM: -So what character do you want to play? ME: -A dog that hunts bears. " GM: -No, you cant play a dog. <_< ME: -But Ive got a sweet backstory, see, I have to kill the bear who took my paw.. get it? GM: -No, you cant play a dog! ME: -Then Im going to play a bear. A huge, friggin' beast of a bear! GM: -NOO!! Be serious! ME: -I am completely serious! ..but ok, how about I play a teenage schoolgirl.. GM: -Yeah, that sounds much better. ME: -..thats really a huge f*cking bear in disguise!!! ) GM: -RAAAAAARGH!!!!! *fisticuffs*

The system which allows me to attend university here without paying tuition fees and funded by quite reasonable student loans, is a socialist economic model. I would say that it reasonable, to have some sort of knowledge about what youre talking about, before you start talking. Now what has happened with Ebay, as well as most similar sites like the Swedish Blocket, is that it has been transformed from an open peer-to-peer marketplace to a gigantic shopping mall. Instead of people selling things to other people, you have bussinesses using Ebay as a cheaper alternative to an online store. And being a gigantic mall, you cant have people selling whatever they want to.

You do love those 500+ words per post battles about capitalism with taks, don't you? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, I did read an interesting essay about the Bretton Woods system and how an unregulated, free flow of capital undermines democracy and the wellfare state by allowing the formation of an economical virtual senate that rules by the threat of capital flight.

You fantasy people and your dodgy books.. I just thought of a fitting line for you "A fantasy fan appreciates litterature in the same way that the porn-addict appreciates photography" There, made it up just now.

Didnt you know? Capitalism kills EVERYTHING in the long run. ( well, everything good atleast )

One thing with the story that is completely ludicrous is that Drizzt is raised by his evil mum&sisters who are all Lolth clerics and he gets whipped and so on, but still he remains completely naive and good. And he doesnt realise that anything is wrong about drow society until he is sent off to the Academy. And the silliest thing; during his years at the Academy he sees children being killed for training purpouses etc. but the single worst thing to happen to him is "..a day that would bring the most repulsive event in his nine years at the academy: the ceremony of graduation" Which consists of a very attractive Drow female offering to have sex with him. He is naturally appalled and runs away screaming. So shocked by this lewd offer is he that he renounces Lolth ..I think a certain Drow and/or Fantasy writer needs to come out of the closet " .

It is complete rubbish. Its probably the most amateurish comic book Ive laid my eyes on, most prominent being the extremely poor Photoshopped colouring. Notice the face on the top right panel, its just mangled. The penciling is ok even though most characters stare blindly into space, but the inking and colouring is just substandard. They probably sold the license to a bunch of cheap amateurs looking to make a quick buck off the franchise. edit: and I forgot that the characters mostly have the same faces, the only real difference is their hairstyle. bad, just bad.

My dearest ladies and gentlemen! It is an honour to be congratulated on my 25th birthday by such prominent and outstanding people such as yourselves. I especially wish to thank Miss Launch, who orchestrated this magnifiscient celebration. I have spent the evening in unending celebration that included christmas ham, sausages, salmon, mako, two different kinds of pat

No, Hades is completely right. M$ and SONY are spending(and losing) money to keep developers from making games for the PC in order to strengthen the console market. And if you as a customer purchase a console to be able to play those games, youve just proven that it works and that will cause them to continue to undermine PC gaming. Now, Nintendo on the other hand have got it right but kind of wrong; PC users being able to purchase a "nintendo card" that allows them to play console games on the PC and that would be cheaper than buying a stand-alone console.

My halfbrother jumped two years ago and got his arm caught in the wires, it got all torn and broken. He had to go with this metal framework on and inside his shoulder for a few months. He also stopped.

I feel safe enough to say this: Frapper seems to be a little too accurate in my case. The arrow points at a location only about 200m from my apartment, I can see it from here.

Oh, no they shouldnt! Keep CRPG's on the PC thankyou. Consoles are for console games.

Dang, I always asumed you were a Gothenburgian.

Your response to violence in Games
Kaftan Barlast replied to Hell Kitty's topic in Computer and Console
As with most people, my inability to perform acts of violence against innocents is directly paralell to the level of immersion Im feeling in game. The more real I feel that the people on my screen are, the greater is the length to which I will go to keep them out of harms way. If on the other hand, the game fails to immerse me, I might start to kill off 'civilians' just to see if I can get them to die in a funny way. -
The main reason why I dislike Anime/manga is that the hype is huge. Everyone is nagging about "OMFG! have you downloaded the new episodes of "Kabuka Bukkake 3 and four thirds" ?!" and all the kids are reading dragonball. While there are amazing 'western' comics that go completely unnoticed. Im not talking Marvel or DC here but stuff like our Swedish GALAGO magazine or anything by Dave McKean

Japanese filth. Avert your eyes I say!! Do not fall to the temptation of the hugely exaggerated facial features and dubious sexuality. *watches The Transformers original series Season 2*

Yes, it wasnt supposed to be a Starship Troopers film initially. Someone just pointed out that the script was very similar and so they decided to purchase the license and rewrite the script in order to get a bit of free publicity. -
I played it for 45min, then got disgusted and deleted it.

I thought it was the other way around? That the books propagate a semi-fascist, militarist society where duty is all and the greatest friendship is the bond between brothers in arms. Whereas the film ridicules this and projects a hidden antiwar message. I know Verhoeven said he tried to sneak in as much politics that the producers would let him(which wasnt much).
