  1. Im just saying that 'a cow dont make ham'
  2. But even ToEE makes Morrowind seem like nethack in comparison. Bethesda coudnt make a decent CRPG to save their lives. They started working on Arena in 1992 and theyve pretty much made that exact game over and over again for the last 13years with better graphics being the only change. I would take a real but buggy CRPG over a polished but completely inane piece of dung like Morrownd any day of the week. Hell, tweaking patches and drivers to get Bloodlines to work is more fun than playing Morrowind
  3. But all this tech brings a significant problem, games are going to end up costing the same to produce as a hollywood film and that means only giants like EA or Microsoft will be able to finance games.
  4. So.. when are you going to show us the ad?
  5. I lost all interest in tattoos when I turned 18 and could get them legally, I dont like the permanency idea either, it would be like being stuck with the same windows wallpaper all your life. best tattoo ever.
  6. Bethesda knew that Interplay had promised Troika that they could buy the rights to Fallout for a certain sum. They contacted Interplay and put in a higher bid and so they got the rights instead despite Iplys semi-official promise to Troika. It was a rotten thing to do for both Iply and Bethesda, but it was unfortunantly perfectly legal.
  7. ..and to make things worse, with the Fallout license in their bag, Troika would most likely have gotten funding which means they wouldnt have gone bancrupt like they did. Well, maybe that would have happened anyway because of the dealings around Vampire:Bloodlines which I know very litttle about
  8. Blame Interplay and Bethesda, Troika had an unofficial agreement that they were gettig the Fallout license but then Iply decided that it was better to *** them in the *** and sold it to Bethesda for a price Troika couldnt match. So if we are really, really lucky.. Fallout 3 just MIGHT be playable. It sure as hell wont be anywhere near good with Bethesda developing it.
  9. Time to grow a beard and get some tattoos, bikerboy
  10. Weve had the most snow fall in a single day for the last 10 years or so. Its almost a meter in some places. This was yesterday so its more than twice as much today. Me and dad worked for about 2 hours clearing the driveway and that is using the 4WD minitruck with snowchains and a big plowblade attached to it. But could only move he snow about 40cm with one push so it took a lot of push-reverse-push-reverse before we even reached the road.
  11. The traditional ritual sacrifice of a swedish lussebulle with katana and later fed to veri dangerous and frightful hound
  12. I hope you had a nice mid-winters blot.
  13. Mum and dad ate their present (3 bars of ultra expensive conneisuer chocolate) so to show you here Ive got the very nice flatscreen TV they gave me :D Its very practical. Ill use the wall bracket-thingie to hang it when I get back to Uni
  14. Yet again I fight the good fight! This time against the slick lines and youthful characters of the eastern plague. A scribbly old man in an office corridor, take that Japan. "I didnt get any memo that they had installed a hole-in-the-wall here?"
  15. Aragorn would bust a cap in all of their bottoms.
  16. Very impressive, but I think most of that is due to the efforts of Crytechs graphics programmers and not DirectX10
  17. Im just sayig that being able to show hat your game has a high chance of continuing to sell for years ater its release opens many financial opportunities if only the publishers were interested. I id go to a bank in Sweden and say that "its 60% certain that I will sell 100.000 units or more of game X in the next two years, can I get a loan so I can produce game Y?" theyd say "With interest, but yes, defiently" whereas a publisher is only interested in the first two weeks of sales. beyond that, it doesnt matter to them.
  18. Mum says that you need to have read and passed 60weeks of Uni whereof some classes must have been in the same subject that youll be taking your postgrad I know it sounds very nice and free and so on but thats just because Im too afraid to write about the bad nazi parts(dont want to be reminded)
  19. Swede university is a bit different(nazi), you can only get two grades- pass and pass well. If you fail, its like you never took the class in the first place, its an empty space and you cant graduate without passing all classes. Thats why they let you retake tests. The limit for passing is also about where you americans have your grade B, so everyone is pretty much guaranteed to have to retake some tests.
  20. Its ok Schmarthie, if youre working that means youre not on studiemedel and so what you do at Uni doesnt really matter anyway, noone is going to care if you have 15 points of Filmvetenskap A instead of 20. In fact, when it comes to Filmvetenskap, theyre not going to care if you have 120 or 0...
  21. Im just a young, naive Gamedev student but it seems quite apparent that we need to reverse the rut of backwards-striving that the game industry is stuck in. Someday, consumers are going to get fed-up with being spoonfed the same games over and over again in a slightly different package. It also needs to change to reach out beyond todays consumers(although most people are already reached today). There are some things that a game story must have in order to satisfy the player, like how there must always be something to give a sense of accomplishment. But if you changed the entire concept of what a game is supposed to be and made it somekind of 'interactive exerience' then there would be no limit to what you could do, and then it gets really exciting. mmm... this turned into a rant
  22. Stupidity must be punished. At all times And Nazism is an exception to freedom of press/speech. A political doctrine and philosofy directly(as opposed to comunism, marx didnt kill people, stalin did) responsible for dozens of milions of dead and unimaginable suffering should not be allowed to exist in any form.
  23. My advice to writers would be to just take dialouge very, very seriously. The overall standard is very low in computer games and it needs to be kicked up a few notches (MCA&Co do represent the upper strata of game writers so it doesnt quite apply to them). Dont be afraid to go Bergman on a game just because its a game and not a book or film An above all, dialouge makes 99% of the roleplaying experience so make sure the player always has between 3-6 different available responses. ...and why do all game writers think that people enjoy playing "bastard" or "jerk" evil characters? Noone wants to play the fantasy variety of a highschool bully. If people want evil, give them Hannibal Lecter, not some punk who likes to rob strangers of heir lunchmoney Edit: Spelling- Im on a very slippery laptop keyboard
