  1. The IE had other things that didn't help you see what's going on. Worst graphics, lower resolution and worst animations. Very rarely do I remeber having problems seeing what's going on in pillars in a way that I couldn't play well than in BG2, for example, were this was much more common (especially in narrow places; oh the nightmare!).
  2. lol now we have an issue about camera angles? Yeah, BG2 camera angles were flat out better. You could see things behind objects and other interesting detailed stuff, like the back of the neck of the characters that had not so long hair when they were at a specific angle, that you cannot even imagine doing in Pillars with this flat out awful angles!
  3. The point is the game sold and continues to sell very good, giving Obs enough money to make a double-size budget game as a sequal if they want to. Unless they intend to go full 3D open world style, I don't see why they'll need kickstarter to make the sequel, unless, of course, they're of the "geeks will pay for anything" abusive mentality, that I really hope they are not. Or unless 500K+ copies is not good sales and we're assuming otherwise because we don't know everything that is going on behind the scenes (debts, contracts with publishers/liscences etc).
  4. It tried turn based too. Sucked almost the same Best turn based combat in an rpg is in D:OS imo. I'd prefere Pillars stay in rtwp model, though. They know how to do it well; they designed the game to work this way.
  5. I tried Arcanum acouple of years ago. Didn't played it when it was out. I couldn't stand it more than two or three hours due to its awful animations and combat. This must have been the worst combat I've ever played in an rpg.
  6. Mega dungeon was one of the best features of the game. I liked it was linked with the stronghold. Although, since it's already been done, maybe I'd like to see something else in the sequel. Say 2 mega dungeons about the 2/3 of Endless paths each, with different storylines; if they could be linked with the main plot (one of them at least) I'd like it even more
  7. Stretch goals are usually cut content that wanted to put from the start. I am skeptic about some kickstarter projects, especially those run by people who are not making their 1st or second steps into whichever market thay want to break through. I understand it for many, but I can't think that many abuse it because they know geeks will throw their money at them, so they get to continue making their projects without putting any of their previous capitals. And I will be skeptic for Obsidian if they go for a kickstarter for PoE 2.
  8. Hopefully they'll go without kickstarter. 500k+ of PoE sales is like at least 20M+ $ which is 5 times the money they got for PoE... at least. Investing double the original ammount will make a far more better game, right?
  9. Because this has the most meaning in their lives. 500k+ copies of PoE is more than enough to make Obsidian consider a sequel. I can only imagine how the game will progress after all this feedack
  10. Pump it to hard, see if that's ok for you or not and adjust accordingly. I finished it on normal. I thought it was just about fine. Not too difficult not a walk in the park either. If i play again, i'll try on hard, maybe.
  11. lol people trying to rationalize how a wizards work as if there can be a comparison with relity? It's a fantasy setting, magic works this way, deal with it. "Does the system work?", should be the question. To me, it does.
  12. I tried the demo once; I want to try the game since I heared positive critiques about it. One thing that concerns me, though, is this: What I got from the reviews is that in AoD you should focus strictly on your class role, meaning you must pick stats and skills that focus on that and you cannot roleplay otherwise. Although it sounds interesting, it also sounds like it limits my plyhtrough too much for my likes. I have to try to see, of course, but this keeps me away from it at the moment.
  13. Pillars' system is the best thus far for roleplaying. If they add more stat dialogue options (that are not win buttons) and more scripted interactions in the sequel, it'll be the best rpg experience, roleplaywise, since ever.
  14. I think we should stop talking about how difficult the game "objectively" is. It is annoying and might sound insulting to some. Each person has their own way of playing games. Just because you felt it was easy it doesen't mean it was. It was easy just to you. Others might find it difficult. I, myself, found it just about fine on normal. Thats why there are options and difficulty levels. More options is always good for any game.
  15. One could also complain about the trial of iron mode. "Those devs make games only for a few hardcore fans. blah blah blah". Why is everybody so upset about a game mode? Like it's forced upon us? wtf? The game is supposed to be played in normal. Everything else are options to modify difficulty to one's needs. It had super hard mode, now it'll have super easy mode. I don't see any problem here.
  16. What's wrong with an option of story mode? It's optional no? Besides, there are so many people complaining about combat being tough and complicated, so there's something for them. I wouldn't use it though, but I wouldn't use trial of iron mode either. So there's super difficult and super easy. What's to worry about?
  17. Yeah, Avellon's characters were way better than the rest. Noone said he isn't talented but how and why he left is none of our business.
  18. Sandbox has nothing to do with non-linearity. Just because the game world is open, that doesn't mean the stories in it aren't linear. All Bethesda games from Oblivion and on are open world with extremely linear stories. New Vegas is a good example of non-linear main story. Pillars had a good story with interesting revelations and twists at the end. Your choices affected your companions' aftermaths and you could choose different things to do at the end, though nothing would change Thao's actions. Although I prefer New Vegas approach of story, I'm totally ok with Pillars' approach too. I felt I was roleplaying my character and that's what I want from an rpg (although it could be improved at several points).
  19. We shouldn't care why Avellone left Obsidian. For some reason they didn't get along anymore. It's their problem anyway; it's not like we know them personally. If Chris found somewhere else to express his creativity maybe its better for everyone. Maybe we get to see a game with him as lead designer and director and see what he has in mind for his ideal rpg. I'm more excited to see that than saddened that he left Obsidian.
  20. I think Sawyer said something about "one new companion" in part2 at that latest podcast (somewhere in these forums there's a link) ? Its the only class without a companion right now so I guess we'll have that barb companion next time.
  21. If finished the game before the expansion was out. Haven't played part 1; I'm waiting for part 2 so I can try the whole pack. If you havn't started the game yet, I believe it is better to wait for both expansion to be released and have a full playthrough. Having to reload an old save to go back and finish both expansion packs and then get back and re-finish the game is annoying, but I want to see what they've done with the icy stuff
  22. Sorry, mate. It was known all along that the PoE expansion will be in the same fashion as Tales of the Sword Coast for the first Baldur's Gate - although parted. As far as I know most people like that idea better than any other. Yeah I know that, I'm a backer from the very beginning, you think I didn't know? I just don't think it is a good idea that's all.
  23. There's nothing so mandatory about wizards in this game anyway. And that's a plus to me. I changed the mixture of my party every now and then and played a lot without Aloth (the wizard) so no biggie if one is absent.
  24. Because after finishing the main story the game is over, duh. Yeah that's the problem. I'd rather play an expansion that continues the story than adds side stuff to the main game. It's also not practical. One that has finished the main story before the expansion was out (like me) has to load a save, go back, finish the expansion and then return to finish the game once more. But wait! There's gonna be two parts of the expansion! So even if you've finished part 1 you'd better wait for part two before finish the game, 'cause if you do finish it then you'll have to load a save, go finish expansion part 2 and then re-finish the game for the thrid time! For someone like me who never plays an rpg twice it's a bit annoying. Although I have to admit, Pillars is the only rpg tempting me to re-play it. Sometime. If someone hasn't played Pillars yet, it is better to wait for the 2nd expansion to get published and play the whole package.
  25. It's called gameplay mechanics and has nothing to do with realism. If you go with the "oh, I can do this but for some reason I can't do that" mentality then you're wiping out all video games ever made and will ever be made.
