ok a few questions bout gray characters
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Darth matty's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
a. No but they can still finish the game. b. I think it's 75%. -
You never played PnP did you ?
-
There are no answers to questions like that in PnP either. Part of your "roleplaying" task is to answer those questions and thus determine a personality for the character before you start the game. This personality then becomes the measure by which a character will act. Usual example - A character who's parents were killed by orcs may kill every orc they see. Even those not showing hostile intent. So as there are no answers to those questions in PnP either, thats hardly a reason to disqualify Diablo II. And you will find what you need in the Diablo II character section with regards to starting points for character histories.

Nice definitions you chough up. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How you can possibly call this *my* definition AFTER I GAVE YOU THE BLOODY LINK is completely beyond me... Again, TAKE IT UP WITH THE DICTIONARIES IF YOU DISAGREE... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> But by the definition you provided Diablo II is an RPG since it's meets all the criteria. Where as it's questionable whether the SIMS could be called an exiting adventure.... Diablo II checklist. 1. Character - yes 2. Fantastic Adventure - yes 3. Random outcomes to actions - yes

Do the characters have different statistics or any sort of growth ? If not then it's more likely to be classed as adventure than an RPG. Statistical growth seems to be the key factors in appearing on the RPG section of the lists, rather than arcade/adventure or adventure. On Gameplay it's classed as Action/Adventure. Where as Diablo II is classified as a Roleplaying Game.
-
Does indigo prophecy have statitics ? Or is it based purely on the players ability to perform a task ? If the it's the latter , then that's why it's not an RPG.
-
But thats exactly what you are doing with Diablo II. You ignoring any roleplaying elements that dont suit your definition.
-
Never said it did. But it does make the choices that much less obvious. For the record. If an FPS with no statistical elements has multiple endings does that make it an RPG ?
-
But they don't have character like perceptions, more godlike. Were as the other games do, you pretty much see and hear what your character does.

1000 Words Final Fantasy X-2 Concert Version I know that you're hiding things Using gentle words to shelter me Your words were like a dream But dreams could never fool me, not that easily. I acted so distant then Didn't say goodbye before you left But I was listening You'll fight your battles far from me, far too easily. "Save your tears, 'cause I'll come back" I could hear that you whispered as you walked through that door But still I swore To hide the pain I when turned back the pages Shouting might have been the answer What if I'd cried my eyes out and begged you not to depart? But now I'm not afraid to say what's in my heart! 'Cause a thousand words Call out through the ages They'll fly to you Even though I can't see I know they're reaching you Suspended on silver wings Oh, a thousand words, 1000 embraces Will cradle you, making all of Your weary days seem far away They'll hold you foreverrrrrrrrr! Oh, a thousand words (a thousand words) Have never been spoken (oh yeah) They'll fly to you They'll carry you home (carry you home) And back into my arms Suspended on silver wings (on silver wings!) And a thousand words (oh!) Call out through the ages (call through the ages!) They'll cradle you (oh yeah!) Turning all of the lonely years to only days (only days!) They'll hold you foreverrrrrrrrr! Ohhhhhhhh, a thousand words. (its the shorter of the two versions. It's from the FFX-2 lyrics faq over at gamefaqs). The () are Lennes parts for the duet.

Lolz Doom = RPG Painkiller = RPG Serious Sam = RPG Half-Life = RPG Monkey Island = RPG Grim Fandango = RPG Gabriel Knight = RPG GTA San Andreas = RPG GTA Vice City = RPG Age of Empires = RPG Etc. etc. etc. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I always add which also has a character who's abilities will influence a players chance of success. Even the best Diablo player in the world couldnt kill Diablo with the character that emerges from character generation (exploits and cheats aside). Where as if you teleported the Doom Marine to the end boss you could kill it as long as you had the skill. Not too sure about AoE though. Unless your some sort of god, that characters perceptions are too unrealistic to qualify.

Thats actually not true. There is a degree of randomness, not only in which creatures can appear, but also in what powers they may have. What may be a walkover encounter in one game will become really nasty if a particular creature draws a certain powerset. Plus there is randomness in what items you come across. So giving your barbarian master level in swords, dosnt do you a great deal of good if you cant find one. It is by the accepted definition which is why it's catagorised as one nearly everywhere you look. Plus of course if your taking it as a whole, then it has the same potential for roleplaying as any online game does when you add other people.
-
Those choices are very important though. They impact on how the rest of the game plays out. Now lets just say your not a quitter and you will stick with a character no matter what. Those things that you so glibly call unimportant will have a huge impact on your characters progress in the game. Even more so than most RPG dialogue choices would have (which are for the most part very trivial).

Maybe , though remember those "kids" are being judged by our standards where they would be going to school and playing with toy guns and pretending to shoot people. Not the real thing. As a rule the more dangerous a society, the faster you need to "grow up". Adults who fight get equally messed up. In some cases even more so. While we would like to play the civilisation card. You only have to look through history to see just how artificial in some cases these restrictions are. Although in this particular case with an 11 year old and a person in authority, that abuse of power should not go unpinished. But since there are cases of sexually active 11 year olds getting 15 year old girls pregnent I wouldnt personally scream child abuse too loudly. Although under the law it's not an unreasonable thing to do by any means.
-
Eleven is very young although cases with older "children" are much more common. Society forces people to stay immature (or at least some do). If you look at the example of WWI lots of underaged "men" signed up to fight. Since adults (by the defined term) have the same sort of issues with war. There really isnt anything that says these "men" were not equipped to deal with war. Although again an 11 year old marine would be a no no, you have 8 year old (and younger soldiers) fighting in the congo. Not that long ago (couple of 100 years) you had squires serving their apprenticeship around that age. As well as people being married at the age of 12 generally to much older husbands (which still happens today).

Freedon Nadd's Temple?
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to foxdez's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
But thats not that different from what Kinobi says about Vader. If she went to war as Kae but returned as Kreia, that would make sense from a certain point of view. -
I like Darques definition.
-
But it's a social age not a biological age. Thats why the age varies between societies. It's what society has determined they are are capable of not what biology has. When it comes to teachers though you have the professional conduct that is expected of them. Much like therapists, you have a position of power which you should not abuse.

Finished Black, definately worth a rental. Wales are playing later so no gaming today.

Morrowind questions, need help please
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Kalfear's topic in Computer and Console
The story is dull. I think you have to enjoy the game for it's own sake to stick it out. Or at least to stick it out long enough to get to a point where the story becomes even mildly engaging. Which requires a lot of walking. Morrowind is a game for people who like to explore much like you would in an MMPORG. -
I wouldnt say Morrowind requires much in the way of skill. Skill can certainly help when it comes to doing things early or out of sequence. But you can still do what you can in most RPGs which is to level up and make the differences. Oblivion has sort of merged the two, so rather than have a to hit (which meant not only did the player have to hit the target but the character too) it's all been merged together.

Sounds like the next step on from that Jet Li game. One of the funny things about destructable enviroments is how much more you notice things that cant be destroyed.

KotoR 3: Ideas and Suggestions
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Fionavar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Why does that remind me of the GateKeeper hunt in X-2... Although it's very unlikely they could be purely random. Having them appear in one of several locations should be easier enough. -
KotoR 3: Ideas and Suggestions

I don't see why Jolee would have a problem. It would be his chance to change what he thought was wrong with the original council. He may not stick it out for too long. But I dont think he would refuse if asked. -
Still playing Black and it's still awsome. One caveat though. If you are the sort of person who likes to save anywhere, or you are not very good at FPS games (and you dont like having to redo areas , you probably will die of frustration). Not sure if this changes on easy, but on normal, the save points are very far appart. And as Mkreku has already said, if you quit mid level you have to do the level from scratch. However it's that much more intense since you cant simple see an RPG launcher and hit quicksave till you luck your way through, you have to really be on your toes the whole time.
