KotoR 3: Ideas and Suggestions
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Fionavar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
It occurs anyway I shouldnt have to just chuck points into out of character skills just so they can level up. I never said overlapping gimps them. I said trying to avoid overlapping gimps them. Since your avoiding obvious things like three characters with force storm , or three characters with force wave etc. Clearly because your about 8 levels below my average finishing level. Which likely explains why you didnt get the problem I did. Yes I could stop leveling, point is I shouldnt have to as long as I'm not exploiting a feature then the system should still allow variety. Never bothered I always had more force powers than I knew what do with anyway. -
I'm talking about the goods not the gold and silver. You get more plunder when they are in town.

I expect you will see a lot of expansion packs.

Yes and no. It was possible, but not unless you did some exploiting. Highest I reached was 38 I think , it's been a year now (suprising). -

You seem to be missing the point though you should not have to minimize overlap. That level of overlap should only occur if you want it to occur. And not because you have to purposefully choose other powers in order to avoid it happening. If you have to take steps to avoid overlapping then something is wrong. As warriors , which is what they are, the characters should be effective. Purposefully gimping your characters is no different from power gaming with regards to roleplaying. Although in the case of powergaming you are seeking to exploit the system rather than avoid it's flaws. You shouldnt have to exploit the Hissis bug to reach level 28. -
Yes , although the original didnt have dancing which made it easier to find a wife. Impressing her with your sword should work Thats the thing, although the graphics are updated it's still the same game as it was. The collector pack shipped with the original game too which unless you big into eye candy I still think is better. Dosnt really matter unless you want a high score at the end. The whole fleet thing is a pain unless you have a specific target then you assemble it , take out the target and then divvy up right after. I think Seadogs had better fleet mechanics, although the battles are painfully slow compared to Pirates. Thing is you will be doing the exact same thing as you were doing, although hopefully faster so you can get more of it done. Picking medicine used to help quite a lot, would knock 10 years off your "age" that was the only way I managed to get everyone and find the lost treasure. Once your sword skills start to go your in real trouble. I'd say just have fun with it and play it as you want.

Three seems to be a bit of a curse. IWD/II - ? BG/II - ? KOTOR/II - ? Fallout/II - ?

SW game centered on Bastila?
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Dark Moth's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Hope she dosnt keep her lightsaber in the bedside draw. That could be really messy. -
But Pirates is 5? mini games linked together with a seascape. I think dancing is easier from the keypad although a gamepad is the easiest of the lot. Compared to fixing the lightining towers in FFX dancing is a piece of cake. Although I'd still get dancing shoes before a sword.

Using the Oblivion engine ?

The pirates all look much the same More cargo space it becomes important when you start taking out cities, espeically when the treasure fleet or the silver train is in town (thats if it's not chaged from the original). Land adds to your score and determines what status you end up with when you retire. Same goes for family, treasue , ranks , who you marry etc. Unlikely you will do it in one go. Age catches up with pretty quick and gets worse the older you get.

KotOR and Jade Empire

Dunno the whole being crammed into a suit of armour is very Vader like. Him as the Hand of the Emporer is very Vader like too. What exactly makes him like Darth Sion ? -

Which still gives more than enough time for everones powers to overlap especially if you have the consulars. -

Well you get Visas and Kreia so thats two for a start. Then there is your character of course which is going to end up with close to every power because of levels. Attons kind of Obvious, Handmaiden too. Mira's about the only wild card since even as a Jedi she's still more suited to a blaster. Aside from the droids which have the same sort of simularites to the Jedi between each other unless your playing with your eyes closed or something you still end up with a couple of Jedi on the first run. -

No because the selections are pretty limited anyway since you have three tiers of the same powers overlap is inevitable. Even more so if you sticking to your characters and only choosing appropriate powers rather than picking from both sides of the force to get the best ones. Part of that is the higher level of the game. Actually the game is forcing you to pick because it wont continue with the level up unless you pick powers towards the end I was just picking anything since I'd long run out of powers the character should have had anyway. Some characters also get extra powers at certain levels too which just compounds things. -

It's not so much that, as they will generally have the same force powers. That means even if you swap the party around you really not getting a different sort of gaming experience. If I use FFIX as an example, a party of say Freya, Quinya and Amarant will play very differently to a party of Dagger , Zidanne and Vivi this means even within the same game you have some variety (although FFIX is around twice as long as KOTOR) in the combat. The only way to do that in KOTOR really is to introduce it yourself by not optimizing the characters abilities. So even if they are all Jedi I want to see a lot of variety in how they fight and the tactics needed for each "team". Thats probably a problem with the Jedi too come to think of it. They are not only a jack of all trades, but a master of all trades. The companions are there more to drive the story than because you actually need them which is very different to something like IWD where every member of the party was important (although you could still solo because of the way XP worked). So to sum up all that rambling narrower focus on force powers available for each character. -
I can live with that. I think my FPS skills have improved greatly since getting away from quicksave and quickload. Gaming skills in general too I expect, nothing keeps you on your toes like knowing you have to do the last half hour over if you screw up.

KotOR and Jade Empire
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Darth_Onivega's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I think your being a bit generous with your character comparrisons. Though Jade Empire is indeed much like KOTOR with different skins with the whole open palm closed fist / lightside darkside etc. Deaths Hand always reminded me of Darth Vader. -
Depends on the game really. Games seemed longer because they were less concerned about keeping the player happy. The first Dark Forces game you could only save between levels. Not only did this make the game last longer , but it also made you better at the game since you couldnt just save and then luck your way through and then save again. I dont think the games have become easier gameplay wise. But the save anywhere or even frequent savepoints makes them a start to finish thing with little need for time over to fail.
