  1. It would be if a chinese person said it yes.
  2. One of the key points of technology is that anyone can use it. Where as Magic tends to be something that only a small % of the populace can use. A world where everyone is a mage and magic is common place would certainly be different in CRPG terms. Of course if everyone can use magic, then there really is no need for technology. I kind of like the FFX plot where technology is forbidden because it's to blame for the Machina Wars and the coming of SIN. The people who use it are persecuted but obviously there is more to it than that
  3. Well clearly someone who waited and played a patched version would not encounter the problems that someone who didnt would. What is at issue here is should you have to do that. I dont think you should. You have obviously found a way to deal with the lack of quality. Which is to wait until a patch is available before purchase. I have found my own way , which is not to purchase at all. Well waiting for two weeks before I can buy something definately qualifies as inconvieniant in my book. Dont forget we are not just talking about the time taken to patch the game. But also have to wait for said patch. If I said it took 2 weeks to patch a game thats rather longer than 5 minutes. No thats their failure to provide a quality product. Or do you think a quality product is an unreasonable expectation ? And I think your being an appologist for what is a huge issue. I'm clearly not cutting myself off from the hobby since I'm still gaming and have as much if not more fun than ever. It's pretty clear why people continue to purchase. Because they are either unable or unwilling to stop. Had I not discovered the pleasures of hassle free console gaming I would likely still be duitifully patching too. But as long as people continue to do so, there is little incentive to ensure as bug free release as possible since you can always patch it later and from reading your comments here you clearly dont mind.
  4. Perhaps. Makes more sense though than him just happening to come across him I think.
  5. I did. I just never realised what nutjobs some of them were. I used to think nutjob christians were much worse since I actually knew a couple. But I only knew very moderate muslims (like with a small m).
  6. Because if my family are with me I'd rather notice something than not notice it. I'm pretty happy that we don't carry guns as a rule over here though.
  7. There is a miniatures game out that is pretty popular right now called WarMachine. Basically, you are a mage-general commanding steam-powered exoskeletons called "warjacks". The setting is supposed to be fantasy but steam power is 19th century....actually, I have no problem with that...it is not really a time period, per se. It is just that certain things lend themselves to fantasy while others do not. And, of course, it is highly subjective. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Think steam power was something the Greeks came up with. Didnt catch on because slaves were so much cheaper.
  8. I always find myself looking at Arabs or Muslims these days where as I used to just ignore them (like everyone else) but it's like your eye gets drawn to them automatically just to check if they are upto something. Not sure if thats a good or bad thing to be honest.
  9. He sees Ben in the distance and follows him then as he's reaching out for him Ben fades away and Han is there. At least thats how it is on the DVD It could be a coincidence but I dont think so.
  10. Why VIII ? Seriously VIII is the one that I didnt like either the story or the system. When I played them back to back I skipped VIII because I couldnt face it again. II is a very close second I dont think I could compell myself to play that one either.
  11. Why not ? Magic vs technology gives you one of those stages for conflict which are not related to the usual good/evil stuff. Could make for an interesting game. If you dislike technology in a fantasy setting create a character that does everything they can to prevent technology from spreading. If you want to have technology then make a character who promotes and seeks to spread it's use. Which ever you choose the other side will try to stop you not because you are good or evil, just because they disagree with your goals. With regards to the FR it's had technology for a long time. It really should be reflected in the CRPGs or it's not really the FR.
  12. I'd be suprised if it didnt apply to you to. Although I'm not sure I like the insinuation of "friends" because if thats what your thinking your way off the mark. Patching requires technical aptitude, news to me. It's not that I cant patch games I just refuse to when there are alternatives that dont require the effort Thats the one Well those are just two examples. The point is having been there a couple of times I didnt particularly feel like going there again. And like I already said I dont want to wait two weeks after release, I shouldnt have to anyway. Very sorry if you think I'm being disloyal or something. But since I'm having hassle free fun there is little incentive to to change my current gaming.
  13. I'd find that interesting. I expect other people would too. No my whole rant is not based on Vampire. That was just the point where I gave up buying PC games. I was playing PC and console games side by side for a very long time. But heres the thing. I'm playing consoles games and having no trouble, then I'm playing PC games and jumping through hoops to get them to work. The point came where I just couldnt be bothered to do that anymore especially with owning all three current gen consoles it's not like there wasnt a ton of stuff to choose from.
  14. No It's very annoying to be enjoying a game and then something go wrong. The name of the game escapes me right now , but it was Diablo like.I was playing that, got to a point where some invisible gate blocked the way (this was after several hours) couldnt continue. Duitifully looked for the patch , downloaded it and it corrupted my save. Vampire great start, lots of potential. Games starts to slow down. Crashes in transition a couple of time, slows down some more. CTD's for no reason. Now heres the question do you think I had fun with those two games ?
  15. Because I only totally gave up PC gaming after Vampire , at least thats the last thing I bought anyway. Plus I've still got friends who duitifully patch stuff so I'm pretty current at least on the software side. Your choice I'd much rather play a game I enjoy that plays out of the box with no problems. Yes I realise it's a catch 22 if you stop supporting the PC then you get no more games but if you keep supporting the get it out now and patch it later attitude you will continue to get buggy games. No I dont have a solution which is why I found my own.
  16. You wouldnt know though would you ? I mean if you wait until the patch is available before you buy something pressumably you also patch the game before you play it as well ? I do , or rather I did get irked that people just accepted patches and bugs as part of the hobby. But since it no longer effects me if people want fool around with patches, wait a couple of weeks to buy things so they can be sure there are patches or anything else PC gaming related. Thats your choice. I'd much rather waste hours of my life playing something that was to all intents and purposes bug free. I'm sure I'm not the only person who got so fed up with the state of some PC games that they switched to consoles and I'm sure I wont be the last either.
  17. The problem is religion isnt rational. It dosnt much matter which one it is , but when your dealing with people who think their immortal soul is on the line your options are limited. Really the only solution I see to the problems of the world right now is to disprove the existence of a higher being. That kind of cuts the nuts off religion. Otherwise it's just a matter of when rather than if.
  18. Actually I dont recall having any problems with it. Installing the six floppies was a chore though
  19. My computer fan it's suprisingly melodic.
  20. It's not like there enough examples of buggy PC games. I just asked him if he'd had to patch his latest purchases. Not like I have a hidden agenda or anything. I mean it's quite clear that the games are buggy. If you want to go through the effort of patching then do so. I already said I dont care and I dont. It's not my concern beyond putting down money for a working product. Well personal quality is subjective yes. As is how much effort someone is willing to go through just to play a particular game. Your quite right at least as far as UK releases go. I'm suprisingly patient when it comes to waiting for things to be released in the UK rather than importing but if a game is released guilty as charged I want it on the Thursday (which is the earliest we can legally get software over here).
  21. Tie Fighter. Played it before X-Wing so X-Wing seemed dated aftwards.
  22. Yes you can at least I have come across one you cant yet (although there are some I think). As long as you can get the game that is. You will also need a PS memory card because you cant save PS games to a PS2 card. The only place I could find one was here. http://shop.uk.playstation.com/index.php Although you could probably just pick up a PS for
  23. I asked if he had to patch it and he said yes. Simple question and answer. I'm not blaming you beyond encouraging buggy software by duitifully downloading patches. You could well be right. But they are delivering the quality stuff so they get my money. Really couldnt care less what anyone here thinks beyond their gaming opinions. Me too which is why I own so many systems.
  24. Thats the very reason that I made the destinction If you had read MY post you would have seen that. It's very easy to irrationally say oh thats crap. I do it myself all time with genres I dont like. But it serves no purpose since it's not a truth for anyone but me. Mario is crap I loathe Mario platform games. Yet objectively Mario is far from crap which is why it's important to diiferentiate between personal dislikes and actual faults.
  25. Why should I care ? Seriously ? As a consumer all I want are working games. Not excuses. I know full well a PC has multiple configurations but since I'm not the one making the games It's not my job to work around that.
