I think I got it, please correct me if I dont.
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Bogj's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Dont have much experience with publishers do you If LA can make more money with a hasty Xmas release than a mid year release they will do so. I dont think I said there were threats involved anywhere. But obviously if you ever want to make SW products you need to keep LA sweet. Or you could learn a lesson from Troika who never worked for the same publisher twice. Tried to blame them for the problems and suprisingly became defunct. -
Malak Vs. Vader
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Darth_Onivega's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Lightning for one. Plus you need to breach his defensive powers. -
Umm thats only competion of PC vs a console. In console vs console it means nothing hence the PC is irrelelvent. Yes because they want volume and around the $500 is the maximum volume/loss ratio (it would be profit but since they sell at a loss..).Even if the PC didnt exist that wouldnt change since people are much happier spending $500 than $1500. Already answered above. Just look at how small a % own a high end PC compared to a workhorse PC. It's not because they dont want one, its because they cant afford one. Which again makes the PC irrelevent to the console v console thing. There is no proof that X game will make a profit right now so I dont see how that would be any different. It's going to be a choice of 1. PS3 2. 360 3. Revolution If you want the benifits highlighted. See again the PC dosnt even enter into it since it's not even a comparitve machine or in the same price range.

Two things realy. 1. The acclaim of E3 made LA think they were onto a winner with an Xmas release. 2. With the EP III movie on the way they didnt want it released in the same time frame as the games of the movies. KOTOR had no problems because there were no expectations for it. The only way you can avoid that for sequels is by being your own publisher. There is also the questionable nature of the ending and certification. -
Actually the PC is irrelevent it's the MS/SONY/Nintendo competition that is keeping the costs down. Thus what happens to the PC as a games machine dosnt matter in the slightests (it's still going to retain it's original function). As long as there are at least two console manufacturers the PC dosnt even much enter into the equation. Since the PC isnt going anywhere (since it's just a bunch of components rather than a unit) if it did get to the point where there was only console manufacturer and they started to become unreasonable nothing would be be stopping anyone from making use of it as a games machine again.

Actually I used to feel much the same way although not quite as narrowly defined. But having the ability to rent stuff really broadened my horizons. On reflection though. Not a good way to save money
-
Well thats Nintendo's theory. Since many people prefer glitz over substance it dosnt always work. Although I expect Nintendo are much happier with the hardware bill than MS was with Xbox. This is just my opinion but I think Nintendo's mistake was in the chosen media and its small capacity. Without a constant stream of big name titles people lose interest. Although having said that the GC has had some fantastic games which made it well worth what I paid for it (which wasnt full price). Sounds perfectly reasonable can't argue with that logic. Thats currently how I'm looking at the 360 as it happens.

Yes but not as big a loss, which is important when your talking about 100,000,000 units. What difference does that make ? The benifit to the comsumer is the end product since they are getting something that they could not for the same price in a PC. If the PC cant compete thats just too bad at the end of the day. It wasnt the first games machine after all. It's about 20-30% which is pretty significant. Sony are planning on sticking the cell into other devices too, which again will lower the overall costs over time.
-
Because the hardware isnt what makes you the money. If you can offer people something that will play games as well or better than a PC 5 times the cost (or more) people will lap it up. And thats before you weigh the casual benifits of ease of use etc. For you that may be the case. If you add mine and Yuki's purchases together though you get around

Malak Vs. Vader
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Darth_Onivega's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
The last one is pretty open to interpretation given the number of "Help I cant beat Malak" threads that were about. I'd say Malaks not that great with a lightsaber but he does have a lot more force powers to draw on so I'd say it wouldnt be the walkover some people think it would. -
Actually production costs do change. There is a benifit in large production runs for obvious reasons. But that needs to be balanced against other factors like storage costs. The current PS2 is quite different from the launch version and the costs are likewise lower (to offset the lower retail price point). Obviously as X technology becomes the norm the prices decrease mainly because the initial price is over inflated and artificial although justified in terms of R&D costs. Because consoles dont actually rely on the hardware for the main profit this isnt the case which is what makes them different from PC's. Nintendo on the other hand tends to like less flashy but more cost effective hardware. Innovation taking the place of raw power much like you can see when you compare a DS to a PSP. The benifit of thinking the PS3 will cost Sony $800 is pretty obvious if it goes on sale for $400. On the other hand if some people. Like Karka for instance confuse the manufacturing cost with the retail cost they may get a 360 or revolution instead. Sony manufactures a lot of their own stuff which is another benifit to them in the cost department.

Features that annoy you.

Is that any worse than blocking an exit with a crate that you could step over ? Combat in Jade Empire was kind of jarring though since you could bounce off invisible walls which stopped you running away. Took some getting used to that. -
What also makes sense is that the more you produce and sell, the lower your production costs are. So even if any manufacturer sells the first batch at a manufacturing loss, if their consumer research results are favorable they will sell it "cheap" anyway, knowing full well they will cover their costs in the long run. Also, I know that is more or less true that whatever we buy as consumers is at LEAST three times what it actually costs to make. They want to cover all the costs, they want 100% profit and then there are all the taxes and international fees, plus other "extras". That is on products that are already selling and have attained a decent "cruise speed". It is eventually the same for consoles. And they also make a large percentage of profits from games. So leaking a price tag months before it is released is just for building hype. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> According to the article the pricing is for the read/write blu ray. For obvious reasons the PS3 only needs a read only blu ray which is quite a bit cheaper. Have to agree though if you think that your paying $400 for something that cost them $800 you have to feel you are getting good value.

Malak Vs. Vader
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Darth_Onivega's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Well lets examine his accomplishments. He killed an arthritic Dooku who could barely grip a lightsaber. He killed Mace but only with help. Obi Wan chopped him into pieces while he was supposedly at the peak of his power. The Jedi order was a couple of kids and apprentices. All the real Jedi were killed by clone troopers out in the field. -
Malak Vs. Vader
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Darth_Onivega's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Vader didnt beat Obi Wan. Obi Wan sacrificed himself so the others could escape. And probably in the revised verison because he knew how to become a force ghost anyway. Think of it this way. No way would have Luke left Obi behind so if Obi and Vader were still battling then everyone would have ended up captured or killed. Vaders not particularly good anyway he's just very overwhelming in style. It's kind of Lord of the Ringsy if you think about it Vader is the Balrog and Obi is Gandalf. -

How would blu ray assist in it? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You would have enough space to store lots of different rewind locations. Sorry I was thinking off on a tangent there :D I was kind of thinking of a game that would actually require you to stop and rewind time in order to progress. -

Yep thats where the really screwed up with the cube. N64 too I guess. However if they are indeed working on a revolution Zelda side by side it could be an indication they are learning. -

Sounds like sands of time. Of course the rewind capacity was only a few seconds. Could make an interesting premise for a game though and I expect blu ray wouldnt have any trouble technically. -

Thats one reason I like save points. It's like a reminder to save the game. Sometimes they can get frustrating , especially in FPS games, but they do improve your skills in a way that wouldnt happen if you could save after each encounter. Grandia X is probably the only one where you could go for hours without being able to save since you could only save in town locations. But it wasnt called Grandia Xtreme for nothing -

If a game dosnt have save points I keep forgetting to save. Although I wouldnt advocate save points on the PC since it's so unstable. But save points will improve your gaming skills :D -
I'm so used to it now it dosnt even phase me in the slightest. FFX's machina and religion theme worked incredibly and Star Oceans mix of magic and tech worked too. Gunpowder weapons have existed in the FR for over 10 years. It's about time CRPGs caught up with the times. The struggle of magic vs technology would make for some interesting themes beyond the kill the bad guy cliche.

Zelda and Oblivion are totally different games. Zelda is more of a puzzle game. That kind of sounds like what I heard which was that Zelda is being delayed because they are working on a revolution version as well. But it's still going to be released on the cube as promised. I'd recomend Chibi until then which is pretty similiar in gameplay if not in appearence. -
Character development vs. Character freedom
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Ginthaeriel's topic in Computer and Console
If the character is pregenerated ala JRPG then development is fine. If the character is my creation then I expect it to stay my creation and for my imput to matter. Either one is ok but I detest games where I supposedly create my own character only to find out that the designers are still pulling all the strings. It's totally yawnsome playing an amnesiac just so the writers can still spring suprises. You may as well put a big sign saying "Amnesiac character = plot twist" Actualy X-2 although the characters are pre gen you still have an incredible ammount of freedom to totally fail :D To get the happy ever after requires a lot of work, way more than just clicking a conversation option. Which makes it all the more satisfying. I fell off my chair laughing at the conclusion to chapter 5 which I'd not seen in two previous games because of the choices I had made. -
Dosnt ring any bells. I wasnt overly fond of Wild Arms III so I havnt looked out for it though. No doubt you will rave on so much that I will have to buy a US PS2 (again) and import it

Everyone had the same list. I'm talking about II only got the movie version of I over here sorry for the confusion. @ Topic with so many different character models mounts were always going to be problomatic.
