  1. Moreover, it would actually be hard to balance the defense bonuses if you brought it down to 5 stats.
  2. Aren't there melee weapons with the marking property? Those should keep the accuracy buff up as long as attacks are being made.
  3. ROFL? I'd like to hear about this I'll PM you. No need getting this thread even more off track...
  4. No it does. the Witcher is the worst RPG I've ever played, and it's all due to the writting. You were probably distracted by the "plot."
  5. While this is a really cool idea, I think it could create lots of UI problems...
  6. can't disagree more. we know you got issues with combat mechanics, but that is not the entirety o' poe gameplay. you have already conceded that you appreciated more than a couple quests and encounters in poe, so, am thinking you are possibly having a fundamental misunderstanding o' the nature o' gameplay in a crpg such as poe, or you misspoke. reactivity to chosen character development choices and c&c in general is as much gameplay as is attack resolution maths, perhaps more so... damn that opinion stuff. compared to the ie games as a whole, poe has much better reactivity/c&c. compared to most crpgs poe does such stuff better. so, 'bove average? yeah. am not gonna convince you that you are wrong about poe combat mechanics. heck, is more than a few changes we would like to see made to combat mechanics and encounter design. in fact, we believe that too often the mechanics is being blamed when more varied or intelligent encounter design would be a more compelling and significant solution to most combat issues people have with the game. the mechanics is already offering more complex and challenging combats than any ie D&D game that had similar level progression. regardless, sensuki doesn't get crpg gameplay... or simple overstated. HA! Good Fun! Well from what I've read of Sensuki's comments, combat is the only gameplay that really matters to him. As he says himself, he doesn't "LARP" [sic].
  7. That's dumb. Why would having a mighty soul not add damage regardless of the soul power used?
  8. I'll admit I'm not entirely sure what the substance of the whole Gromnir v. Stun & Luckman debate is. It seems rather like everyone is just talking past each other. That being said, I think Gromnir is right, there's no meaningful distinction between wanting something to be more like an IE game and wanting it to be more like AD&D 2e unless those are divergent in someway.
  9. Well I hope to god PoE doesn't try to be a sandbox game. Sandbox games suck. I play Obsidian game for the tight plot structure and amazing storylines.
  10. I'd be tempted to use brighthollow, if all the bonuses were cumulative. Right now I just travel to inns. :/
  11. You can't edit posts after a few hours on these forums. It's really dumb.
  12. You should be able to tank fine with your paladin. Engagement doesn't do a whole lot in terms of making enemies stick to you, the AI targeting algorithms do that for the most part. Unless you're super familiar with the mechanics, you'll want two tanks on PotD anyways.
  13. Yeah, the proper response to "AI will break engagement if tank doesn't do enough damage" isn't "make wizards into tanks" it would be "don't neglect damage on your tanks."
  14. Act 2 is a cakewalk but Act 3 brings the sauce. Prepare to battle your own teammates with new and improved Dominated party members! Good to hear. I'll probably be there in a few weeks or so. I'm in the same boat.
  15. This is one of my favorite pieces of obscure gaming lore: GenCon was originally a wargaming event based in Lake Geneva and was called the Geneva Convention.
  16. Ha ha ha you've done it now. You've said it, and it has been summoned Gamers younger than us, pure of heart and stout of soul, are about to be sullied and ruined as they tap that cursed acronym into Google. Damn your eyes, PJ, damn your eyes! I remember the guy on the forums here a few months back who basically wanted PoE to work like FATAL. :D
  17. 4e D&D is best D&D (and I've played every edition going back to 1e AD&D). However they are all a steaming pile of horse dung when compared to FATE.
  18. I'm assuming the taxes are from use of the bridge/road. Private toll roads and bridges were fairly common in the era this stuff is based on.
  19. Exactly. That being said, they do get to cut out the middleman of the publisher. But I think the OP is a little confused as to how much money is needed to produce such a game with the publisher model, and therefore the complaints based on the comparison between the two are spurious at best. Obsidian did not make a sweet mint by cutting out a publisher and using kickstarter instead. It just pushed the money earned to the front of the publishing cycle instead of normally receiving it at the end. Yeah, the OP has no idea what he's talking about. I was just putting holes in his arguments.
  20. Except those 77,000 backers get a copy of the game. That's cutting $3.465 million from obsidians total revenue.
  21. Yeah, I won't dispute that. I was just commenting on the writing piece. I agree it's probably not the best idea. I'd still buy it if they did it though, probably would never activate though.
  22. This is a good point. However, to play Devils advocate 2 and 3 wouldn't be an issue for a hypothetical VO DLC. Everything in the game is already written, so adding VO to it wouldn't effect the writing at all.
  23. Yeah... That wasn't $4 million "extra," that was the whole budget. If there hadn't been a successful Kickstarter there'd would be no game (or an Obsidian Entertainment for that matter either).
