What are you playing now?
I just got myself a PS3, and one of the games I got with it was Resistance: Fall of Man. Generally, I got 2 things to say about it: 1) I wish it was on PC instead, because I hate gamepad controls far more than I remember. 2) I'm actually glad now that I didn't buy a PS3 on release year and get this game, because even though this was made by Insomniac, in the first 4 hours, this hasn't been nearly as FUN as Ratchet & Clank games were. Even Ratchet Dealocked, while not as good as the first trilogy, had me enjoying myself more than the first few hours of Resistance

OH NO, NOT IN THE FACE! And that is the reason why used market is a must on a closed system like a console if you want games to drop below $60 at a decent rate after release. I'm not denying any of this, but none of what you said actually confirms correlation between dropping used games on your system and getting better prices overall, which is what you initially strongly implied. It was the combination of digital distribution (which really decreases distribution costs to a point where $1 games bring profit) and free market that caused it, and if you haven't received the memo, Microsoft has put quite the half-assed effort on keeping their prices competitive, both on console digital market and PC. And hey, Steam does not have the consistently best prices out-of-sale, but even many those prices manage to make GFWL store a god damn joke. Singularity for 20€ and GFWL demands 50€ Far Cry 2 for 10€ while GFWL wants 30€ Arkham City for 30€ when it's 50€ on GFWL Hunted: Demon's Forge 20€ -> 50€ Assassin's Creed Brotherhood 20€ -> 50€ The list goes on. And on. And on. Microsoft has all the legal right to charge what they want, but there is zero evidence that the prices will improve even a little if Xbone drops used games support altogether because Microsoft don't give a **** about transferring their savings to customers. Gaming being a lot more affordable on PC than consoles now as far as titles go? Trust me, the discrepancy is going to get whole lot bigger. If they actually do smash the used games market this gen, what Microsoft is asking of each Xbone customer, is that they bend down and say "Please Microsoft, stuff that Mr Pricegouger deep inside me and screw me until I can't walk on 2 legs anymore" Edit: And Sony is honestly debatably just a little better, but even in their case I'll give them a big "F U" if they do the same thing. Okay, PS+ is good value for money, and I can get both God of War PSP titles for 4€ each, but even then, PSP pretty much needed to die in the west for the prices to really come down. Many titles just kept hovering at the 40€ spot

Unrest: An Unconventional RPG Set in Ancient India
It should also be noted that you can sample Adam "Rutskarn" deCamp's writing in the update section of the Kickstarter, he has text-LPs and short stories on http://www.chocolatehammer.org/ and last but not least, is part of Spoiler Warning group, ripping the guts out of narratives in every game they touch, like

Should have expected Buckley to divide people into camps of "Always buy used games" and "Don't give a **** about used games" Because there's no such thing as an otherwise careful spender who buys stuff at launch when they absolutely want it, right? Because as far as download titles go, on PC you'll find many digital marketplaces competing for their share. Let's compare the digital competition on Xbox. Okay, there's Xbox Live marketplace, and..... umm... can somebody help me out here? You're going to link something that even Kotaku recognizes as a rumor, and word the article like that? Mmmkay How about we also look at something that a proven reliable Sony leaker on NeoGAF has said about it "This is spreading out of the Bonus Round/Doritos pope/keighley heard about sony DRM posts. The gist of it is that Sony is listening to the backlash that Microsoft is getting and they are basing decisions off of this. I would assume MS is also, but I don't know that for sure. But I can say, for sure, that the past week's PR nightmare for MS has not been lost on Sony and they, in fact, do have a used game 'solution' working and have been going back and forth for months on whether to use it. This past week is pushing them strongly into "Yeah, let's not use that." Do you want to give them an extra push? It can't hurt. I've been told by lower level people in the company that tweeting to yosp specifically is quite effective as he likes to gauge what people are thinking. Will a couple hundred posts from neogaf change the entire industry? No. Can it help give a little more momentum to something sony seems to be leaning towards already? I would think so."

I've never understood this train of thought. Less unwanted competition -> developers and publishers are more content with their financial performance -> forementioned groups are more customer-friendly? Not in many cases have I actually seen improved customer relations and deals be born out of growth, in fact quite the opposite. The industry is absolutely swamped with people who would slowly test our limits. I'm absolutely not convinced PC game prices would lower any slower had Bioshock not started that whole DRM nonsense. Now, digital stores, that's another story. You can have a sale and get some extra customers for no actual loss. Also, in many major multi-platform releases, PC sells half the copies of either console (which might come from people migrating to consoles from DRM nonsense, different gaming tastes, good gaming PCs potentially having a smaller userbase than the consoles, or in some people's opinion piracy), so the platform might need some reinvigorated money flow compared to the consoles. Also as a side note, even with this much competition on the PC, the GFWL PC game store doesn't act very competitive. For example, it charges twice as much for the Fallout 3 expansions and War For Cybertron as Steam, and 10€ more for Dark Souls. When used games are out of the picture, I don't see Microsoft leading an affordable console-gaming future

Consoledeals: Xbox One second hand game licenses are up to £35 each MCV: Publishers to receive cut of Xbox One pre-owned sales at retail You can consider used games market on Xbone effing dead £35 = $52 = 40€ for a used game, and retail will get exactly 10% of that as profit. And that's not all, this is apparently not a flat price either, Microsoft will demand its share of any money that goes over that. I'm honestly expecting some serious backlash from retailers at this point

The Kickstarter Thread
I was surprised to notice that Rutskarn, a guy from one of my favorite LP/"game critic" group Spoiler Warning, is having a Kickstarter about an RPG set in India called Unrest They reached their $3,000 goal on the first day

The PS3 had the really bizarre cell processor which discouraged a lot of developers from putting their games on the system, even if PS3 was the beefiest machine save for memory. This time around, they're using x86 and embracing Unity tools, so having to learn some completely alien coding tricks won't be a barrier anymore

This is one of those Hellbugs in Defiance, correct? Got the mount as a reward from a rift event in RIFT. It's either very rare or very common, not enough experience with the game to know for sure Raptr had this promotion where playing the game's trial version for 20 hours with Raptr App on would give you a copy of the game and 1 month of subscription (meaning also temporary premium status in F2P version) So far, I don't hate the game, better beginning than in LotRO, but I don't love it either. Probably will stop playing after I reach trial's level cap
