  1. They have no impact on the main plot - just little side stuff. You can easily pop them in and out of the party.
  2. *blinks* No one would be seeking your protection. You consist of a small band...that is all. The Stronghold never really figures into much in the game - and you only have a max of 8 (8!) Hireling for security. The Domenels would fall over laughing. The Crucible Knights could stomp your little stone hut into dust, and the Dozens could sneeze and blow the walls down. Not buying the "protection" angle (ala DA:O Zeveran). Could be someone on the run - that would be interesting...A land tries to "blend in" with the party, hoping to go largely unnoticed (which could then depend on certain Rep conditions, whatever).
  3. Why did you care about the hollowborn? Your children and family wasn't affected, and you do nothing to stop it - it is already "over" before you get involved! Just another bland reality in a series of such...
  4. Peeps, don't feed the trolls. The game is too easy. I can't begin to imagine how bad it will be in the next XP levels 13-?? With no immunities, just status the enemy to death (para/petri/prone). The systematic problems in the mechanics will just multiply (see Adra Dragon fights for details). There are serious problems with the mechanics (well - discussed elsewhere) on this. Before an XP can be released, they will need to be addressed. I personally think PoE, mechanically, is a colossal failure - the attempt to re - invent the wheel just lacked time and experience compared to other systems already available. Trying to "fix it" is just resulting in new, more complex problems requiring even more zots. Having higher levels with even more powered abilities is going to magnify the cracks wider. Obs should have stuck to what they do best - telling stories. What a mess.
  5. Durance is a very cruel person! He is the quisessential embodiment of cruel because he will not give you a quick death but WANTS you to suffer! Then you won't "forget" the lesson (how he rationalises his cruelty).
  6. Eder already knows the truth (that the gods are false and that Waiden was a real Avatar of Eothas). His "conundrum" is why did his brother do as he did. Aaaaand of course the answer is like ALL others - you never find out. I mean...you talk with the gods, I,m sure it would be an easy thing to find out "by the way, could you tell me X" And that is still yet another irksome thing about the game - no matter how hard you as a Player try to help the Companions, the Developers don't allow closure options, even though ingame you have access to such power and knowledge.
  7. In a world like PoE, where there is no good or evil, Thaos is just not a villian. Sure, he has done some pretty inhumane things - but nothing directly to you (other than inadvertently Awakening you). To some past soul, yeah, but seriously...talk about carrying a grudge! I never had the feeling that Thaos was a super - bad guy. And he is supposed to be, right? Even in DB at the Animancy debate...where were the Ciphers? In a world like PoE, as someone in a position of power, you are going to have to protect yourself from domination, charm, and having your thoughts read. It is just another inconsistency in a loooool line of logical errors presented in the game world IP.
  8. I don't think that is totally true - Tekken 7 is done with U4 - so one can get a 3rd person view. It is then just a question of camera.
  9. I read through this and really wonder if these people played the same game as I. Were the Companions well-written? For the most part, yeah. But they are bland. There is not one that really stands out and screams for attention like from just about every RPG has. Where is the Minsc, Viconia, Aribeth, Morrigan, Angela Deth, etc? I want to like them, really. But there is nothing there to like. Oh, occasionally the is a glimpse of what could have been - little banters between Eder and Sanaki, Kana, and Aloth, with a bit of Hiravias sprinkled in. And that is all. That saddens me.
  10. There are no unique spells only learnable through a grimore. Aloth in my party has learned every mage spell there is. All the grimore really does is offer a way to allow the Wizard a way to have access to all the spells in a fight by "swapping them" - which in practice is not very feasible. And, of course, to learn spells over and above the "learn per level up" by scribing found grimore spells. They, however, are not unique but instead come from the level up list.
  11. Well..someone was crazy enough to make an open source operating system, which is a hell of a lot more work imho.
  12. Let us pretend that instead of things going the way they do after the first ruins, that instead... What if you are just a passenger on the wagon train that has stopped because one of the passengers has gotten bit by local fauna and is sick. So you can A) Help out and go with the woman looking for healing herbs. B) Stay in camp and wait. 1) Talk with sick passenger 2) Don't get involved Regardless, bandits attack, then comes the storm. You survive with the merchant and the woman. No sign of the sick passenger. You get through the ruins and witness the sick passenger leaving the area. You can A) Gather the two and follow. B) Chose another path. And so it goes on. You can get involved with the "sick passenger" hear his/her story about being a Watcher and do the various things to help, or get involved with The Leaden Key and try to hinder the Watcher, doing various things for them (eventually getting to meet Thaos, etc). Or you can go your own way, ignoring these clashing events and factions. So run with it! Which way would you choose? I would oppose the Watcher and replace Thaos, taking control of The Leaden Key and make myself into a new god. I really wish the game had been done this way...
  13. Good and evil and neutral and law and chaos and neutral have no natural, inherent meaning - only man - made meanings that change according to who beholds them. There is no universal accepted meaning for evil, etc. So enough philosophy.
  14. I understand that. Perhaps the question should be "why hasn't the open source community made an open source game platform"?
  15. Has anything along these lines been tried? Not meaning open source but doing a game on those pillars? Just curious.
  16. It is easy. For those who want to enjoy the story (finish the game) - immortality. They can't die. Then 3 different hardness levels (easy, hard, insane). Insane should be so hard that for a party oriented game like PoE, it should be impossible to solo. Closing, locking doors where before archways were (no doorway tactics, ect.), teleporting m0bs, bosses, etc! And for explorers, etc. Out of the way places, secret bosses and so on. Should basically make everyone happy.
  17. Evil does not have real meaning. There are things that are considered "bad" or "good" from a perspective, nothing more nothing less. Having a greedy, sleazy NPC would mean running the risk of them betraying the PC by any faction that regards the PC negatively (like The Leaden Key). So game over. Perhaps you mean someone who is accustomed to violence, the street, etc? I kinda wished for a Rogue from the Docks in Defiance Bay...like one of those bandits, perhaps the leader. And Maerwith...A swashbuckling Fighter (or Rogue). A worldly, no nonsense realist. But a bloodthirsty psychopath? I'll pass.
  18. I think you answered your own question. Obviously the gods don't like someone controlling them... Basically, she has no "check" to balance things, so she just got more and more authoritive until they ended her.
  19. Wait, wait, wait. Those three are in the same group, so you need to make a weapon out of the said animals or set them on fire. That's the way it is when deals with the gods.
  20. I kinda agree - just that as PoE didn't emotionally involve me at all (outside of some of the more humorous things like Eder getting bit by Sagani's fox). As a result, I really didn't care much one way or the other as it made no difference at all what one did. For example, whether or not you kill Raedric or not makes no apparent difference (aside from your reputation). Same goes for the girl and the Lord ib Dry Ford - all the different choices just affect your rep with one faction or another (not that that matters, either). Without rewards for efforts, why bother?
  21. You can either forge a weapon front the bears claws or the lioness' fangs (or both for bonus souls!) Or you can set fire to one of them (or both for bonus souls!) :D
  22. Aaaand it starts again at the begining... I wanted an ending where I absorb the souls, kill all the gods, return the borrowed souls to the Wheel and take over The Leaden Key. Who needs false gods, anyway?
