  1. Playing as Risky Boots will be pretty sweet. I really want to play the game as Rotty Tops, but Hero Mode is looking really doubtful.
  2. Update 45: New Release Date tl;dr - They are stuffing more goodness into the game, therefore the release date has been pushed back to Feb 28th 2014. And when it does come out
  3. No problem. Flight of the Amazon Queen and Beneath a Steel Sky have both been freeware for about a decade. They're the 2 freebie games you could always play on SCUMMVM without having to purchase anything, hence they were always available right on the SCUMMVM website. Of the two, Beneath a Steel Sky is much better (it's a classic), but they're both worth playing if you're into pnc adventures.
  4. Flight of the Amazon Queen has been free on GOG since it released about a week ago, and it will stay that way. It's been free outside of GOG since 2004. You've been able to download it for free right off the SCUMMVM website for almost 10 years. It's a decent game, nothing special, but not bad. It's pretty much the definition of average. Happy birthday, GOG!
  5. I'll be curious to see how much success, if any, nVidia will have in pushing Tegra onto SteamOS and make it the dominant hardware solution on that platform. I mean, that's the move for them, right? nVidia has no presence in x86 and never will, they've firmly thrown their hat in with ARM. Both AMD and Intel have all-in-one solutions combining x86 CPUs with GPUs. Iris Pro 5200 essentially makes entry-level, and even some mid-level discrete GPUs obsolete. I'm assuming Kaveri will do the same for AMD. With Tegra4 running at the ridiculously low power envelopes in the 1-10W range, they could conceivably slap like 4 or even 8 of these together to make a monster running on like 16 or 32 cores. Who knows what Tegra5 will be bringing in terms of raw horsepower? I mean, nVidia has to go there, otherwise they will be left out in the cold in the desktop/home market as discrete GPUs are a dying breed in my opinion.
  6. The biggest problem I see with Mantle is that it's hardware specific. For consoles this makes sense, since AMD hardware is present in both XBOne and PS4, presumably both GCN architecture GPUs (I have no clue what's in the WiiU). For PCs, if you use Mantle, you're targeting less than 25% of the market. Meanwhile nVidia has been working with Valve to optimize Linux OpenGL drivers. They can never get the same level of performance that Mantle potentially could because OpenGL is a high-level API while Mantle is low level, but I'm sure nVidia will be looking for any tricks that could give them and edge in OpenGL performance. It will be interesting to see how Mantle does. Glide was fairly short-lived, and this is basically Glide all over again. I wonder if they two-pronged attack of nVidia and Valve with OpenGL and AMD with Mantle could kill off DirectX? Probably not, but they could definitely wound it. As Humanoid wrote, AMD is well known for stumbling over their own feet, so while this does sound like a good move, they have to actually execute it well. I would much rather AMD would jump on board with nVidia and Valve, and push OpenGL. I'd rather they moved more toward an open API than throwing yet another proprietary hat into the race.
  7. The original game or the Wiiware port? Because you should have the Grail, either way. The Wiiware/etc. version pretty much flat out tells you where to get it. It's the new PC version, essentially the Wii version. No I don't have the grail yet. Edit: Okay, I got the grail. Time to get my ass to the Mauseleum.
  8. Sawx holding a 10-4 lead in the 5th. With Oakland having already lost, the Sawx could more or less wrap up the #1 seed if they hold on to the lead and win. They would be 2 ahead with 3 left to play. I think they hold the tie-breaker, though I'm not 100% sure on that, so that would essentially bring their magic # to 1.
  9. La Mulana. I'm still super early in the game. I figured out how to get the ankh gem, then I had the long journey back to try to get to a save location with almost zero health. There were some super hairy moments where I was down to 1 life. Timing the two red skeletons to jump over 1 and run past the other than up a ladder without getting killed was super tense, but I made it. Now I have it saved with 1 life near the entrance, no problem either grinding out health or going back to the village to the hot spring from there. I'm far from done in the Temple of the Sun, but I needed to get out of there to regain my health. Trying to grind for health in the Temple of the Sun in my present state would be super difficult.
  10. The "I am the one who knocks" speech is one of the more iconic scenes in the series. Gus killing Victor is still my favorite scene. Warning: Very brutal and graphic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1L6jQ0Pfrw Gus was so awesome.
  11. GabeN can read your mind and he can sense your desperate desire to learn Spanish. He's also planning to partner with Rosetta Stone, so it's a win-win.
  12. You mean something like: "True to it's name, the Steam Machine also steams milk. Combine it with your already existing coffee maker, or add the $20 coffee maker attachment for an all-in-one cappucino maker/gaming machine ready to tackle an all-night gaming session."
  13. So the second announcement is indeed the SteamBox, or rather Steam Machine, though there will be multiple Steam Machinescoming 2014. For the time being there is a hardware beta you can sign up for: http://store.steampowered.com/livingroom/SteamMachines/
  14. So Breaking Bad guessing game: Who is the ricin for? * Walt himself * Todd * Lydia (we secretly switched Lydia's Stevia with Ricin, let's see if she notices) * Jack * Elliot * Gretchen * Skyler * Walt Jr. * Baby Holly (she had it coming) * Brock (finish him off) * Jesse * Principal Molina * Marie I still think Walt takes it himself, but Elliot and/or Gretchen Schwartz is a definite possibility.
  15. Well yeah, that's like saying the moon orbits the Earth, both true facts. That's what THEY want you to think.
  16. LOL. Hence, why I threw up the grain of salt alert. Anyway, we're about 3 hours from finding out for realsies.
  17. GRAIN OF SALT ALERT: ANONYMOUS SOURCE - SUPPOSEDLY VALVE EMPLOYEE Valve's next announcement to be a reference design, Source 2 on Friday Obviously this is all just rumor, but it does sound rather plausible. It does indeed make sense for them to push OpenGL as the graphics API. They've been championing OpenGL ever since their move to OSX and Linux. Valve has been working hard to bring better tools to OpenGL, which is the area where it falls behind DirectX. Feature wise, they're on par with each other. If this is true, this would be eerily reminiscent of Microsoft's own strongarm tactics some 10 years ago that attempted (somewhat successfully) to bury OpenGL. We'll find out soon enough if there's any truth to this supposed leak.
  18. I just don't play that many twitch games. In most of the games I play, the difference in fps is barely noticeable, if at all, and has zero impact on gameplay. If I was playing fighting games or high pace FPS all the time, I'd be wanting higher framerates too, but I don't.
  19. Well, since the GTA-series has been a satire of hyper-masculinity and mass consumption, i would bet that the female lead would not behave very feminine so to speak. Am I the only one filled with a quiet rage every time someone claim GTA is a satire? It's power fantasy with some self-awareness. Self-awareness can be confused for satire and there's lots of satire in the unimportant details (such as Republican Space Rangers), but there's also crude jokes and parody just as frequently (Post-Op, hi-larious...). You're right, it's as much of a parody as Scarface was. The problem with Scarface is that it was supposed to be a cautionary tale, yet it's overwhelmingly perceived as glorifying criminal life.
  20. A Molyneux game not living up to promises? But that never happens.
  21. I generally can't tell the difference above 30fps. I guess in a game where there is extremely rapid animation or you change the fov really quickly, the extra fps would make it slightly smoother.
  22. In my opinion, outside of the Brotherhood questline, all the questlines were for the most part worthless in vanilla Oblivion. There are a few cool daedric quests, but those are pretty much one-offs.
  23. No way. A custom built gaming PC is still going to cost you 800-1000 usd. I could put together a gaming machine for $600 that would play any game out now and for the foreseeable future. I wouldn't be able to max settings on every game at 1920x1080, but I'd be able to take the Pepsi Challenge with PS4 and certainly XBOne, at least in terms of raw horsepower. And that's me, a regular consumer paying regular consumer premiums. Valve can strike a deal with hardware manufacturers, much like Sony or Microsoft, because they would be buying in bulk. I bet Valve could put together a machine for $400 that could trade blows with PS4 and likely still break even on every unit sold initially. Anyway, I'm guessing the hardware announcement is coming tomorrow, so we'll find out soon enough.
  24. I thought about watching that, but tuned in to Blacklist instead. Fairly mediocre, had its moments. It could conceivably turn into something good, if for no other reason than James Spader putting it on his back and carrying it there. He was great. The rest of the show...
  25. Why would you refuse to name King's Quest 5: Abscence Makes the Heart Go Yonder!? Anyway, for King's Quest 6: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow they bring in a relative unknown named Jane Jensen to help Roberta Williams write the plot. I won't spoil anything, but as it turns out, Jane Jensen is a pretty dang good adventure game writer.
