The point, my fine friend, is that "my machingun isn't accurate enough" is a redicolous complaint. If you want to be realistic, you're gonna be missing most of the time, because rapid-fire ballistic weapons aren't accurate. Period. If you're not, then the appropriate amount of accuracy is for the devs to determine and the player complaint has no leg to stand on, other than "but I want to kill stuff dead faster"

Well perhaps you are correct, but that's the way it worked with melee weapons in IE games. You normally were much more effective in melee if you have 5 dots in one melee weapon, rather than being proficient (one dot) in 5 different weapons. This is also consistant with most party oriented roleplaying games I have played. Especially with a 6 member party you can normally cover a good number of available weapons. Most party based games force a character to specialize in one or two combat stlyes to be effective. Of course most single player RPGS work differently, and there your one character can do everything. Well, IE games weren't perfect. A fighter did start with being proficient in most weapons, that's why when his chosen weapon proved uneffective (like when attacking a enemy that's highly resistant to a specific damage type), he had a fallback - he could swith to a different weapon and still be effective. Archer were usually built to use only arrows AND NOTHING ELSE. No fallback. No diversity. Specialization is good, over-specialization isn't.

Question 1: did you ever shoot an AR in full auto? Question 2: Do you know hte average number of spent bullets per confirmed kill ratio in the US army?
-
If I were to hazzard a guess as to why, it would probably be because many of the people who "care" are a kind of extremist/fascist in their own way. You will always get resistance. Always. Even agaisnt agood ideas if they are delivered badly. It is compeltely human to agree with someone and STILL go to war with him simply because you don't liek him for reason Y. Unfortunately.
-
I don't consider criplingly over-specalized characters a good concept to begin with. If you dumped everything into archery and have nothing else, then a guy in full plate with a tower shield should wipe the floor with you. Unless you got something up your sleeve. Like a tanglefoot bag - trap him, get behind him and shoot him in the back. Characters that focuse on one weapon to the exclusion of everything else are something that should occasionaly bite a player in the ass.

ME1 was the best - best gameplay, story and atmosphere.

And exactly how do you learn/adapt/survive in this case? There is NOTHING a player can do, that's what makes it maddedning/irritating.

The best way to not fall to temptation is to keep it out of sight, so one is not tempted to begin with. Le'ts face it, games like X-Com are meant to be played in Ironman mode. Unless of course, that only works if the game isn't broken or doesn't cheat, making all of your planing, strategy and effort pointless. Like spawning a team of mutons behind your secured lines (or to be more precise, in the middle of your squad) and butchering your entranched team.

Space Fans: X Rebirth has a Release Date!

Split say: AAAAARGH! -
Well on the one hand, even if the Grey Knights are rank amateurs compared to the Harlequins, Harlequins do lack the iconic nature of Space Marines, and space elf ninja clowns, no matter how badass they are with all their colour, finesse, and the most You speak of heresy, xeno-lover. In no way can foul, fallen xenos compare to the glory and perfection of the Emperors Chosen! Repent!

What makes you think it was unnecessary? It was necesary, as it conveys the exact way the line was spoken and which words were emphasized. If you read that sentance in your head in a gnomish voice, it wont' sounds the same with and without the asteriks (or italics, or bolds) in question. Inflection IS important. And what is even funnier is your (un)example of overuse. That IWD2 screenshot undermines your point, for the asterisk has been used TWICE in that entire covnersation and in palces where it makes sense.

So when I pick up a book and can read it without the italics, the asterixs, the dashs and everything else to emphasize certain words, then clearly the author got it wrong. Lephys says so. Italics and bold exist for a reaon. Putting emphasis on certain words exists for a reason. The same sentance can have a different meaning and cast a completely different light on a character and his feeling/thoughts. Lephyses example is good, so let's use it: "I didn't accuse her of anything!" OR "I didn't accuse her of anything!" give a completely different impression of a character. Wetehr Joe feels indignant for being accused or we despises teh "her" in question, paints a compeltely ddifferent picture of Joe. In a movie, the tone of voice and emphasis can be heard, but not in a book. Ergo, it is the the duty of a GOOD writer to make his characters thoughts and motivations clear. Sure, you can replace it with far longer descriptions, like: "I didnt' accuse her of anything!" - Joe raised his voice, puttign the emphasis on her. But you're effectively doing he same thing, just with extra padding. You might save that a less defined character is better one as it makes it easier for hte audience to proejct/interpret the meaning of his wods, but I say no. in othr words, yes - the author can get it wrong. Because lord knows there are some ****ty authors out there.

Amulet of Bladeworks This magical amulet holds within a wast power. It can only be used once par day, and on a night with the moon out and shining. Once activated, the user and everyone in the area is transported for 2 minutes into a pocket plane - an endless plane with infinite blades. The blades are under user control and fall upon his enemes from the sky like a deadly rain. The Density of the rain depends on the users strength, and up to lvl*10 blades can attack each enemy at once. Their attacks are unprecise and are made at half the attack skill. The raining weapons themselves vary in strength and range from well-crafted but mundane, to powerfull magical ones. Zampakuyahara A fine, but seemingly mundane blade. Once per day, the wielder can utter a single command "Scatter", and the blade disintagrated into thousands of tiny blade fragmets that swirl around like a tornado. They can form a defensive barrier around the user, or race towards the target to deliver thousand tiny cuts.

Death threats and getting overly emotional are stupid - no question about it. 99% of death threats are just expressions, jokes and can be easily ignored. But there are those 1% made by unstable fanatics.... The unfortunate part of being a public figure and talking to thousands is...well, you are talking to thousands. There WILL be people who will not like what yo usay, regardless of what you say. You cannot forbid them to think negative, nor can you really forbid them to express it. That in itself is wrong. HOWEVER, good thing about forums and e-mails is that you can ignore/block trash. [philosophical rant] Ultimatively, I can't say I see a solution for this "online abuse" ... because pretty much anything humans do on a regualr basis could be classified as abuse. After all, scolding someone and trying to pressure him into changing his behavior for the "better" by making him feel bad is in reality no different than that person making you feel bad by saying something you don't like. As long as humans try to force eachother to change, eider by phsical or psychological pressure, nothing will ever change. And humans always do it. All the time. [/end rant]

I think he ment to say that discriminating poeple because they are discriminating people is still discriminating. Only the values/variables change.

I wouldnt say that every role was ESSENTIAL, but every role was certanly usefull. You didnt really NEED a lockpicking expert to compelte the game. You could brute force your way trough doors. Shooting locks, prying them open with crowbars or just blow a hole in the wall/door. Of course, lock-picking was quiet.

As one of #those people" I take great offense at that statement. 1st, it implies that "those poeple" are somehow wrong 2nd it implies that they have no valid oppinion about something, simply because they are capable of arguing any oppinion or point. Both of those are naturally wrong. -
