  1. There#s a quiestionnare out where you can fill out the choices you made in PoE. It will be summarized so you can see how the rest of the community handled the choices. Link: https://t.co/WbPC3sKbYF
  2. While I agreed with most of your post, I don't however get the quote above. You mean there's a formula to which all romances ever done by BioWare apply? Then what is that formula? Cause I've played most of BioWare's games and I can't say there's a general BioWare formula, if we don't make it a very general one, but by such standards it would be difficult for any developer do a relationship in a game without also touching upon such general characteristics. I'm sure Obsidian will try to stick out and do romances in their own way, and it will be interesting to see how they turn out. I have have faith in Carrie, Kate, et al. But I'm also quite sure there will be parts that are quite similar to the "BioWare romances" (however one choses to define such a thing).
  3. But we are talking about BioWare. BioWare have never tried organize a campaign to change how other game companies portray romances in their games. So no, BioWare are not crusading, big nor small.
  4. I'm talking about humans. You kill a lot of humans in games. Such murdering is prohibited in every society on earth. When did I ever speak about public nudity? I was talking about consentual sex between two adults. I'm sorry if I forgot to add; "not in public". Fair point. We are moving towards a greater acceptance of nudity in games, however it's still not the norm in the traditional RPG market, but the Witcher, Mass Effect and Dragon Age have certainly pushed the limits forward to be sure. My initial point however was that extreme violence have always been the norm in computer games so it's never given an afterthought. Relationships, sex and nudity has long been frowned upon and generally generete much heated debate. And one would assume it would be the opposite, given how sex is something natural and necessary, which violence is not. Of course violence exaggerated in plenty of games. Under what rock have you've been living? In what way are Cassandra's breasts or Dorian's butt exaggerated in DA:I? It is what it is. Sure it can be a marketing tactic. Just like violence can be. So that doesn't explain why nudity and romance is frowned upon, but violence is not.
  5. The reason there are no, or very few, groups asking for more gore is because gore is already in the games. The gore is all over the place, and it is more or less fully accepted. No one even gives a second thought about it cause the games are filled with it (to varying degrees of course). And that's also the reason why there are so many discussion about romances and, to a lesser extent, nudity. Because it doesn't nearly feature in games as much as violence does. And no, killing isn't accepted in any society. To my knowledge, all societies has a ban on murder. Yet, in RPG's it's your main occupation. Consentual sex between adults however is not banned anywhere, yet the nerd rage at the mention of including it into a RPG is beyond control sometimes. To be a bit serious, I'm not generally advocating less violence and more dongs in Deadfire, but I honestly think the RPG genre would benefit with the inclusion of more stories/topics revolving around love, as it's one of the central themes of storytelling throughout the age of man.
  6. I agree, they could have been better regarding communication (and not just regarding beta, I mean it's their forum but they basically have more interaction on Something awful) but I still maintain that the main purpose of a beta, as pointed out in the first sentence of the quote, is to give feedback. But I suppose we (or atleast I) are nitpicking now. I should drop this.
  7. The funny thing is, in games in general and RPG:s specifically, I've seen horrid murder, torture, gore, maiming, decapitations, hacking and slashing at limbs, though I have yet to see a thread that talks about such things as being used cheaply. Because in many instances they are. But killing and murder, which inherently is something that is very non-normal in society, seems to be perfectly sensible to anyone playing games. But throw in a flacid dong or a sex scene (done good or bad) of something that actually is inherently normal in society and people go bananas and talk about crusades, immaturity, cringe worthy and what not. Just to provoke, I'd say I want one genitalia for every murder committed in Deadfire.
  8. In no way was BioWare, with their games, trying to force other game companies to make games in the same fashion as they do. BioWare had a vision of how they wanted to portray romances in their games. Were all these different romance options great? That's a matter of personal opionion but I'm sure these opinions vary as much as there are gamers who played the games. Personally I found some were good and some were bad. Heck, I don't even think BioWare themselves would say all were great. But whatever you think of them, they do not fall into the defenition of what a crusade is. Did they cater to vocal parts of their forum? Perhaps. BioWare is a profit making company, trying to make as much money off their games as possible. Obviously they see romances in their games as a key part of that. You may not like that, but again, what BioWare are doing is not within the definition of a crusade.
  9. Including non-heterosexuals in a game is not a crusade. I think you need to look the word up, cause you don't seem to understand what it means, or your are exagerating in a way which is ridiculous.
  10. What more, specifically, have they promised, that you have not got in the backer beta already?
  11. It's a AT4, right? Looks like the same type I handled when I did my military service.
  12. Why would once a month be "nice"? Again, the beta isn't for your enjoyment, it's for the developer to get feedback. If they only needed feedback on the three versions they have released, then it's the exact amount of updates both necessary and needed.
  13. My reply was to the one quoted, which wasn't you. But regarding your complaints; what do you mean by "the entire development cycle"? Cause you realize that a beta only exists at the very end of the development cycle, right? I think the reason they have only a few updates is because they want feedback on substantial changes. Not fifteen minor fixes done daily. But again, it should be noted that the beta period is for the developer to get feedback, not for the player's enjoyment.
  14. No? Some are good, some are bad. Just like any feature in a game can be good or bad. But most of it comes down to subjective opinions. So I'm sure you haven't enjoyed any, but a lot of other gamers have in fact enjoyed a lot of different romances in different games (not just in RPG:s). I for one, is looking forward to the different relationships in Deadfire. It will be interesting to see Obsidian's take on it. They have a lot of new writers so I think/hope Carrie, Kate, etc. will raise the bar in this case.
  15. A beta is always a beta. It's not the full game, it's buggy, it lacks all features and most important of all it's about giving feedback to the developer. And they've delivered exactly that. I think you've got your expectations wrong about what a beta is all about.
  16. If you're not going to derail, why do you keep bringing up that this game is a sandbox game? Cause it's not. Not even in the slightest. If you're trolling, you're doing a great job, cause you're driving me nuts with these fantasies of yours.
  17. It's funny how one of the selling points for PoE was not doing full VO, which would mean more text and more flexibility ("if you don't like to read, it's not a game for you"). And here we are, seeing lots of talk about VO. Even if it isn't full VO it's still much more than when the franchise was originally pitched. Personally, I see the production benefits of having limited VO. So I was hoping for that, but it looks like it will be going in the opposite direction.
  18. Dak'kon's Zerth blade. And yes, it paired well with Celestial fury, when you dual wielded katanas as a kensai/mage.
  19. But it doesn't look at all like the X to the left of the last letter. Is it A or N though? Very hard to say, but I'd go with N. If it's an A, it's tilting too much.
  20. Nope. Story is already set. I'm sure there's a lot of bugs, but that won't affect the story. The story is what it is at this point.
