  1. The poison quest kicks in regardless. The others I'm not sure about, though I can see them working perfectly without romance, so I see no reason why they wouldn't fire if you don't romance her.
  2. That's not true. Jaheira has this awesome quest in which she is cursed/poisoned and will actually die unless you resolve it in time. She also runs into more harpers and... There is more going on with her in this game than just a possible romance. I think some people get confused by it since that/those quests tie very neatly into the romance, if you chose to take the romance route.
  3. You have a good point there. There's a lot of nostalgia covering the BG-series. It's nice and good, but it's simplistic by most standards today. Though what one should keep in mind is that BG2 in particular was revolutionizing when it was released. The amount of interaction you had with your companions set a new standard at that time. The game brings out a lot of fun and it's one of the few cRPG:s I can go back to and play today and have fun with. The companions of PoE are in general much more interesting than the BG2 companions in general. So if the sidekicks keep the same standard of writing as were the case of the companions of PoE I'm sure these sidekicks will offer just as much fun and interest (even if not the same depth) as some of the companions of BG2 did. Without a doubt.
  4. Maia looks like she can smack anyone around. Therefor Maia trumps everyone.
  5. I find the whole thing odd. If they are codes to cash in somewhere/anywhere, then why not say so? I mean the point of the codes would be to generate positive buzz around the company/product but that never happens if it isn't explained by the devs. And the codes themselves doesn't really generate any buzz by themselves either because I think very few people notice them at all. We're a handful of people discussing it here, but that's about it. But maybe the devs will make it all clear in the coming weeks leading up to the release.
  6. We see it yet again; the plague of wanting everything, all the time. We had the same discussion regarding weapons with class restrictions. Having everything catered to your personal needs at all points lessens the experience. There's never any hard fought choices. The pain of restriction enriches the overall gaming experience. Please realize that and let it sink in. Post modernism - I shake my fist at thee!
  7. I couldn't let go of the thought that the codes looked like url shorteners, as mentioned previously in the thread. So I tried the codes on the 9 most common url shorteners but got only 404's. Also tried the codes on obsidian.net (as in obsidian.net/25Pwqv for example) but that resulted in 404's also. Just wanted to mention that it's been tried and tested but the result was a dud. *edit* Also tried eternity.obsidian.net. Nothing
  8. Hmm, didn't these turn out to be just GoG codes in the end? And who the first spots and checks it - can redeem it? But that's just speculation, right? No one from Obsidian has confirmed anything about these codes, to my knowledge.
  9. I don't have the metrics that Obsidian have access to of course, but it doesn't surprise me that there are few dwarves and I think it has little to do with mechanics. I've played a lot of different online RPG's over the years and dwarves are never plentifull. Of the traditional races, humans and elves are in a vast majority. I'd rather think it has to do with being able to identify with those races, rather than mechanics.
  10. I see that Josh has been putting quite a few likes on tweets by Carice van Houten. Might she do VO for Deadfire? Xoti would be a good fit, no?
  11. Well, I'd like more quests related to the stronghold (whatever that stronghold may be) if anything. Not a resource management game (combat seemingly optional, the resource part seems not to be).
  12. Maybe Devoted should get an extra bonus to a weapon, that no other class can get, no matter how many points they spend.
  13. Indeed. I'd rather see a system where you can put several points of proficiency into a certain weapon type (3 or 5 points in total for example), which would increase your bonuses with the specific type of weapon. That way you wouldn't be proficient with all weapons during a playthrough and the Black Jacket class proficiency bonus would be meaningful.
  14. That's music to my ears. Well, since it's been proven that all proficieny slots will easily be filled by the party, why have proficencies to begin with? Why have choices when they don't matter? I think that is the point of the critique.
  15. I have full sympathy for having a limited numbers of hours for gaming. It's like that for me too. But knowing what weapon is best is something you won't know until when you've finished the game anyway (and maybe not even then if you haven't found every weapon in the game). In my opinion people need to settle with the thought of not being able to have everything during a single playthrough.
  16. I can't say I really have sympathy for your point of view. You are basically saying you want everything and all, without consequence. The plague of instant gratification. So I say, yes, the game should punish you. It would be pure luck in BG2 if you made a character that was able to wield Carsomyr +5 in your first playthrough. But even so, the game was kind of nice to you, in that you could recruit Keldorn to wield the weapon for you. But that meant of course you had to pick Keldorn as a companion instead of someone else (strategic choice). Point being; No, you can't have everything. That's what makes a game like this meaningful and interesting in the long run.
  17. Not everything needs to be a given instant and easy choice. For example, Carsomyr +5 in BG2. You basically needed to be a Paladin to wield it or have Keldorn wield it for you. It was a very powerful weapon but you had to make some strategic choices to be able to put it to use by your party. That was an awesome aspect of the game. Games like PoE2 shouldn't be catered to people who want instant gratification. That's moving away from the essence of the sub genre that this game belongs to.
  18. Should have a new Bestiary twitter post in a few hours. In the meantime, we just have to guess which one it will be. Better be Staryu or I'll go into rage mode.
  19. Does anyone know if it's just the save file from PoE needed to carry over all the decisions to Deadfire? I have PoE installed on an older machine so I figure I need to move the file over manually.
