Well, the didn't make it simple, that's for sure. And since the devs seemingly only lurk here and doesn't interact, it might be we won't get much further with it. Or maybe they only drop hints at Something awful? Who knows.

Seems really weird and niche to be a marketing thing. The only ones who'd spot this are the die hard nerds fans. I'd rather say it's something tied to Deadfire for the fans. Some downloadable glowing pet parrot or whatever. If it's anything that is.

By that logic, throw in laser sword combat, a roulette wheel and 2D helicopter action combat. As long as it's fun, it has a place in the game, right? Wrong. Different genres have different pillars of which it is built upon. A core formula. I'm not saying that a ship sim of sorts will never fit into a RPG, but you have to handle it very carefully and have it in the background, cause it's not part of the core of the genre. Comparing it to Gwent is not valid either since you could ignore Gwent completely in the Witcher 3 and still finish the game. I don't think you will be able to ignore the ship in its entirety during Deadfire and still finish the game. I also fear that there will be a bunch of people trying out the ship part of the game and bashing on it for not being "realistic enough". Then even more resources will be spent on that part of the game, which could have been devoted elsewhere.

To me such game systems fit better into a Ship manager sim. So tread gently, is all I say.

I am confused. It is B.B. I hope B.B. is not the “near final build”. Did gameinformer get access to a different build? Did they all get access to a different build but are allowed to showcase BB only? Is near final build including cut skill trees, old UI, and half implimented features? Have journalistic previews lied to me this whole time???? (just kidding I know they do that). It can also be that gameinformer thought what they had was a "near final build", even though it wasn't. It could just be a simple missunderstanding.

I hate it when there's some timer stressing me when playing a RPG. Like the devour function in NWN2: Mask of the Betrayer. So please keep these ship functions slowly paced. My dream RPG doesn't really consist of me scrounging for rice for some deckhand.

There is a concept of dumbing down in regards to controls - through the years a lot of genres suffered by being designed to work on pad, removing useful utility designs like shortcuts, better UI or lowering variety in gameplay to support pads. Keyboard&mouse vs pad vs joystick have different advantages and sometimes favoured control method isn’t best suited to game’s genre. What’s more, an act of playing game on a cauch, possible in a distracting environment vs in a corner, with headphones and a private PC can also influence design. That said I really haven’t seen an example of sabotaging a good PC title for console use in years. And how could anyone look at Deadfire and say: “yeah, that was designed with consoles in mind!” is beyond me. But controls have nothing to do with intelligence. The movement of games/genres to consoles in some respects are mostly done from a business perspective. They have made the assumption that console games or versions will generate more revenue. It's a business decision and have nothing to do with intelligence.

More importantly I think, just because there's dumbing down doesn't mean it's dumbing down for consoles. There's plenty of room to dumb down for PC too. I'm against the issue of 'dumbing down' as a concept. Change is happening all the time and it has little to do with the intelligence of the players (regardless of prefered platform),

I know it's a minor thing and I will probably be called out as a snowflake but I actually thought about this too when I saw the loading screen. I'm also fine with smoking in the game but in the loading screen it felt off or odd. But I've lost two relatives to lung cancer caused by smoking, so maybe that's what ticked me off.

I agree with previous posts. A complete playthrough is prefered to other alternatives. That said, have they revealed how the playthrough of PoE carries over to Deadfire? Is it just the save file? Cause I've gotten a new computer since completing PoE, so I need to manually transfer files to my new computer I assume.

We can't really check until we have a 6th group, I think. This is all assuming the 6th group will be the last one we'll get.

Checked the link and that one seems to have merit. But how to crack it without any clues to keyword, I do not know.

Nice work! I tried doing subsitutions. I assumed the numbers could be blanks. So I started with "Pd" (w6Pd2u) as it would be a short word, and I assumed the word must start with either A, I or O (I'm also assuming the text is in English). All I could get was the word "as", by moving the letters 15 "steps" along the alphabet. Using that method on the other characters created no meaningful words however. But then again, I'm not sure of the point of the numbers and I didn't factor in the use of capital letters. Maybe (hopefully?) we need a 6th group to make everything clear?

I find BG2 ambivalent in that regard. Cause Act 2 is a major part of the game (which, granted, varies depending on your style of play) which is very open. I find it the best part of the game. When you move on to act 3 (and the following acts after that) it gets more linear, that is true. But in my book BG2 has a very open style of play for a large portion of the game and I think that's why so many remember it fondly.

I don't get it. They've already announced the date. This is really odd. Don't we have any code breakers here? Get this thing going.

Ah, a good old bonfire bonanza barbie by the beach. XXXX-beverages, sand-itchy plastic thongs, charred meat, and hairy, bone-white outlines of shed Borat-mankinis on sunburnt bodies with lobster-red faces, highlighted by zink pasta warpaint. I can't contain myself. Where do I sign up? Indeed. Bring on the booty!

A simple question
Mannock replied to Niizzy's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
There's more customization in PoE2 than PoE, but it is better? I think it's better but I'm sure a lot of people are still not satisfied. It all comes down to personal preferences after all. Try checking out some character creation stream on youtube or twitch. Maybe that will enlighten you.
