Might be me, but my experience with similar athletics checks in the game is that contrary to meaning instadeath upon failure, they usually lead to "barely making it through", but gaining a wound in the process. Of course I haven't played the game solo or in Path of the Damned yet so things may be different in those modes, but if the above is still the case in these playthroughs then I do think it's a legitimate complaint if the game sets an expected outcome for failing these checks that is far less drastic than what they suddenly got. The complaint might be legitimate but it's delivery with insults is not okay. Therefor I find it difficult to take the OP seriously.

Annoyed Companions
Mannock replied to Epixia's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Josh has confirmed on his tumblr that they do exist. However, if things got messed up with the patching, I do not know. But if they did, I'm sure it will get fixed in the next patch. -
Maia Relationship start

Don't remember what the prefered dispositions were, but stoic, rational and diplomatic are all stuff I clinged to on my first playthrough. -
Maia Relationship start
Mannock replied to AeonsLegend's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I had the same experience and that was my reaction too. The pacing of the romance in the case of Maia seems really off and I hope they look at that, if they haven't already. Tekehu never came on to me, but I picked him up quite late in the game so that might have something to do with it. -
Apparently it's determined by which faction you've helped the most but didn't choose to side with. I agree that it comes off as a bit silly in some cases, but, uh, gotta have end game bosses in an RPG, I guess? Besides the dragon? I went alone, but had helped the RDC the most, so they showed up on Ukaizo. Though I still can't really understand why they wanted me dead at that point. From a narrative standpoint it didn't make much sense to me.

Can I ask about what the skirmish was? It originated over on the RPG Codex forum but you can get some info from this thread: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/97103-chris-avellone-the-final-frontier/ -

Unfortunately, yes, it makes you think of that. -
Best tank?

There's a section on the forums full with builds and strategies. Check it out! This one seems good by the way: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/102793-solo-potd-build-sir-sit-a-lot-the-brander-of-death-effective-in-early-levels/ -
Yeah, though I'm surprised that Obsidian was surprised. All of the factions are unpleasant (more or less) and there is clearly not a "good" faction option. And I'm not complaining about it, but for me it's obvious that you'd have to roleplay a pretty fanatic character to stick with a given faction to the end.

That's discomforting news. Liked her work. Hopefully her replacement will be just as good! -
Free DLC Restriction

Yeah, that's what I meant. But yes, seems like Obsidian and Steam need to have a chat and fix that particular problem. -
Free DLC Restriction
Mannock replied to Drone456's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Well, I own the game, and the problem you describe happened exactly the same to me. I clicked the install button on the free DLC and no download would start, and instead the game would launch. The DLC wouldn't download, neither in the game nor when I exited the game. They way I got it going was by unchecking and then checking the little box next to the DLC name (and not by pressing the install button). But if you've tried that and it didn't work, I'm out of ideas personally. -
Free DLC Restriction

I haven't been doing any family sharing but I had the same problem as you describe, regarding the free DLC. They wouldn't download when I clicked on the install button. Instead, the game would launch. I solved it by gong to the game page, where I can see the listed DLC I own. There's a little box next to the DLC which you can check/uncheck. By unchecking it and checking it again (or vice versa) the download started. Try that, and see if it helps! -
15 level dungeon
Mannock replied to dixon_sider's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'm not so sure about the idea. I'm not against dungeons per se, but I think there are other aspects of the game that could use more time and resources instead. But as a DLC in the future? Sure, but I wouldn't put a pin on the "15 floors", but rather something less but with interesting puzzles and stuff like that. -
Hmm. I'm torn on this subject. On the one hand I found the whole Spellhold to Underdark sequence in BG2 to be a bit of a stranglehold on my playthroughs. I've only completed BG2 twice but I have started some 30-40 sessions through the years and most of them have always ended somewhere along the route of Spellhold to Underdark. But they were cool on the part of the narrative, so despite the above I wouldn't want the game to be without them. But maybe they could have been integrated in another way, to not make them like a very long tunnel? In any case I'm not sure the tunnel design was what made the game great. There should be an 'undecided' option.
