  1. NPR's Favorite Books Of 2020: The Book Concierge Is Back With 380+ Great Reads Planning to read The City We Became: A Novel by N. K. Jemisin, Piranesi by Susanna Clarke, and Agency by William Gibson. I also need to read this year's Hugo and Nebula award winners.
  2. I believe the early findings were a minimum, not an expiration date, so your math is wrong. We don't yet know which lasts longer, and we may not know for another year. It may depend on how you were infected and other factors. A shot in the arm is much more controllable than a random viral load though.
  3. Yep, they can dance better than me. But that's not exactly a high bar.
  4. I have to question whether that will even serve it's original intended use as an economic stimulus. The more important aspect of the bill for many is the extension of the unemployment benefits.
  5. Hey, if the 2010 Seahawks can make the playoffs with a 7-9 record and still win a playoff game...
  6. The coolest ancient weapons discovered in 2020
  7. Yes, I'm in the same boat. I'd never have made it past my teen years without them. They've been essential on a couple of occasions since then. I can probably say the same thing about vaccines, but it's harder to say what you avoided than what you recovered from. Personally I'm not sure why you'd want to live in the past; things get steadily worse the further back you go. I'm more interested in what the future will bring.
  8. I think the guy made everybody a little crazy in one way or another. It's sad to see the impact of electing a mentally-ill man to the office. Hopefully, once he's gone, everything can start to return to normal.
  9. The basset Winston, slayer of squeaky toys.
  10. That was a pretty nice win by the Seahawks; the defense played a solid game and Russ was on form. They were helped a lot by a Goff mental mistake, but that's all part of the game. Green Bay has the first seed all but locked, unfortunately. Too bad we couldn't find a way to pull it out vs. the Giants.
  11. I think they're being cautious in their wording because they don't know exactly how long antibody protection lasts through natural immune response. It may be that (without a vaccine) as the pandemic cycles through the population over several years, immunity may start to wear off with the first infected and the cycle may start all over again. With vaccines, you can deliver immunity at a much more rapid rate, which gives you a chance to squelch the propagation of the current strains. That doesn't mean it won't pop up again at some point.
  12. We watched "The Midnight Sky" last night. It was... dreary, in a similar way to "The Road". The spacecraft was decently implemented.
  13. On the rare instance where I have to refight the same battle over and over, I'm happy just to lower the difficulty and get through it. I find repetitive battle scenes to be no better in design than respawning creatures. It's also why I often skip the final boss battle.
  14. He's pretty much all about image. The $600 was previously worked out between him and Mitch, so perhaps genius Trump was baiting a trap so he can look good? But Hanlon's razor would instead suggest idiot Trump's throwing a tantrum and wanted to nuke the works to get attention.
  15. User ratings: They would be smart to use a robust measure to compute the score, rather than a simple average. That would eliminate a lot of outlier votes.
  16. German astronomer Karl Schwarzschild computed the first exact solution of Einstein's theory of general relativity while serving on the Eastern front during WW1. This led to the derivation of the Schwarzschild radius of a non-rotating black hole. He developed pemphigus while at the front and died of it the following year. What a waste.
  17. Just a minimalist gathering this year. We've all been extra careful in the days leading up the event.
