TESS readies for takeoff I'm pretty excited about this mission. Just gotta wait a couple of years for the results...- Critical Role, Meet Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire
I thought Ashley Johnson looked familiar from somewhere. Blindspot.- Critical Role & Obsidian Announce Partnership For Deadfire!
Q1. For our main character, will we be getting a wider range of voice sets to choose from, compared to PoE1? Q2. Will the range of possible canned responses for all party members be increased, compared to PoE? I.e. will we get more variety? Thank you.- will my *insert class* suck?

- Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition
I would really like to know in which way he disagrees with Obsidian, NwN2 certainly had its problems but I'm pretty sure that anyone consider it a better game than the first one. In my experience people usually view the campaign as better but the editor as worse (I don't know if this applies to a majority but it has applied to a majority of the opinions I've read/heard/seen). I guess it could be argued that Neverwinter Nights 2 placed more emphasis on the campaign over the editor and that could be a fundamental disagreement he could have with regards to the original. All the same I agree that Neverwinter Nights 2 is much, much better. I've used both editors quite a bit, and I have to disagree with this opinion. The NWN2 editor is much better than the NWN editor in many ways. Unfortunately, NWN2 editor is more buggy in some respects. E.g. the character wizard crashes the editor; saved modules can become corrupted, &c. The main benefit of the NWN editor is that it uses tiles for external areas, which saves a lot of time but considerably reduces flexibility.- Have training dummies in the game would be quite helpful.
rjshae replied to jf8350143's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)People keep saying this, but I'm not seeing it. At least in modern CRPGs. You're not seeing what? Arenas? Most recently I've seen it in Oblivion, FO3, FO:NV, Underrail, and Blackguards. I'm sure there were others I've forgotten, mostly because I avoid them. Perhaps surprisingly there wasn't one in Skyrim. If you just enjoy playing games for endless battles, I suppose arenas would be enjoyable. But to me they're a tired cliché.- Funny Posts Inquire Within

rjshae replied to jf8350143's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)An issue with the arena concept is that it has been heavily overused in cRPGs, to the point where it feels like a stereotype. A fresh approach is needed.- Josh Sawyer's tweets and teasers, part III
rjshae replied to Amentep's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Given the Kickstarter "doubled" the budget for voice acting, does that also mean we'll be getting a broader selection and wider response range of character voice sets? Does it come with a money back guarantee?- Am I the only one who dislikes portraits (as a concept)?
rjshae replied to mrmonocle's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I much prefer good artwork to static rendered images. However, if the character busts were animated (as in the character sheets) and portrayed the (helm-less) character's current status, equipment, mood, environment, and other information, that might also be attractive. Perhaps the designers would consider providing two alternatives as a game option for those with varying tastes?- Modding scene videos

- How useful is Intellect in Deadfire?
rjshae replied to Yosharian's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)It would seem like the small INT enhancement to duration quickly reaches a point of diminishing returns -- what good is an extra +5% if many of the minor battles will already be over? Instead, they could compensate for the area change by modifying duration to increase geometrically. (E.g. +5% at INT 10; +15% at INT 20.) A higher INT then would be more useful in long, sustained fights; typically against boss monsters.- Is anyone concerned about Multiclass/Single Class Balance?
rjshae replied to Stardusk78's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Yeah, except for all the nerds that disagrees. Yeah, there are always a handful of holdout that bear grudges because their overpowered favorite class got “nerfed” (*ahem*), but I think Josh accepts that he’s never going to make everybody happy. I also think he accepts that “tuning” is something he could spend another year doing and never get 100% right. At some point “good enough” has to be good enough. My expectation is that the system will start to achieve a decent balance and some level of stability by the time PoE 3 comes out. The first two are experiments in new system design, and we're the beta testers. But hey, as long as it's enjoyable, I don't mind.- DONATIONS CLOSED - Brace yourselves, the Black isle Bastards are coming!

rjshae replied to Darkmind's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)The Pareto principle applies here. 80% of the time you'll be mostly happy with the small selection you've taken. The other 20% of the time though, you'll really miss that one spell you can't cast. It makes your character class feel less than optimal. And if those occasions can’t be rectified via a potion, a scroll, or swapping out to another grimoire, I will be similarly concerned Yeah, assuming you have time to swap out a grimoire. I suppose you can reload, but I thought we were trying to avoid that.- Awful tree talents.
