  1. I'd like to see how Obsidian can improve on the animations, particularly in melee combat. I've yet to find a game where melee combat looks like anything but a couple of toons swiping swords at each other. I'd be great if the melee animations would connect, block and hit realistically. It'd look awesome.
  2. It took me a few goes to work it out. This should probably be in a different section. This is how to work it out, not the answer:
  3. I've been using old Saxon names which seem to be a good fit for the setting. Old Welsh names would be good too. So far I've created three PCs and used Aethelstan, Hereward & Hengest.
  4. It seems you can also retain at shops/merchants - certainly in the stronghold, haven't checked elsewhere.
  5. I'd prefer it if race mattered more. Apart from character creation there really isn't any in-game consequences for race. It may as well just have one race with different cultures for all the impact they have.
  6. Can we have an option for 'none'? All new companions for me please.
  7. It's The Dracogen, and surely the most obvious one? It's the name of Steven Dengler's company and even the sign is the damned company logo. The innkeeper is also called Dengler. I think it's great that he's able to support so many projects but c'mon, does it have to be so obvious? It just looks like in game advertising. Each time I visit there I cringe a little bit.
  8. It would have been great if they had been able to little bit of effort into making the content less dry. It's a shame from a developer that clearly has a great team of talented writers. Take the quests for example, 'average adventure, reward 10% exp, minor item'. Would it have been too much work to have at least given the quests a decent title and basic background? For example, 'The trouble with xaurips', A local farmer complains that a xaurip clan is raiding his crops, will you help? 'Troll Bridge' A troll has taken residence under a bridge and is preventing travellers from crossing, will you help? The quests could even play out as a scripted text encounter, the mechanics already exist.
  9. IIRC, if you speak with Nedmar and agree to find - what's his name in the cells - he'll give you a pass phrase to use when you're challenged. Not sure is this still happens if you've already rescued him and killed Osyra. I remember doing that then killing him after.
  10. Sure, here you go. I also had this with when my system had an I5 2310 / GTX660ti before I recently upgraded. poe info.zip
  11. Hi, I've noticed for a while now that it looks like there's something weird going on with the texture on the breastplate armour leggings - basic version, male version only. I've attached some screenshots that illustrate it. Looking at the texture in the inventory window the legs have a normal fabric appearance similar to other armours, where as in game it they have a pretty fugly black horizontal weirdness over the texture that does not seem to fit with the rest of the armour. It's there on the unique Hand & Key armour too but does not appear on the female version. Anyway thought I'd ask the question as it's been bugging me for a while and I haven't noticed the effect on other armour sets.
  12. Range indicators - so pleased for this! No more wizard running past my meticulously positioned front line to launch a spell!!
  13. I kinda think that Rangers should have access to some - maybe limited - melee talents. They feel a bit railroaded as solely ranged/animal meat shield. I'm thinking something along lines of a 'co-ordinated assault'; you and your animal companion launch into a ferocious co-ordinated melee attack on a designated target.
  14. On my first play through of ToEE atm, my party is currently stuck in the Earth Temple bit dying fighting that demon. So far I've found the radial menu's pretty convenient and easy to use tbh, as long as you take your time with them which suits my play style and them TB system. The biggest problem I've found is the poor item descriptions. Don't think that radials would work with the RTwP in PoE - I didn't get on with them in NWN. Don't even get me started on the mess of NWN2.
  15. I fail to understand why we all have big ass monitors these days yet game developers insist on these little bitty UIs that require you to scroll through loads of text. We have space, man, use it.
  16. Main issues that are hindering my enjoyment of combat in it's current iteration: - Melee blobs. When I have multiple characters engaged in melee I struggle to know just wtf is going on. - Seems like there's a general lack of feedback (EDIT - combat feedback) - Combat speed - normal feels too fast, slow too slow. Why not just have a slider? - Mage AoE spells - I never use them because most of my party is always engaged in melee and would get hit with the effects - RTwP - Yes, I know that this isn't going to change and I will learn to live with it. It's just that I find there's so many abilities for each character that at the moment I find myself I find pausing so often to sort out who's doing what that it may as well be TB. I am still learning the combat system so maybe that's it. I'm currently playing through BG and ToEE, the combat in PoE feels higher maintenance than BG and I enjoy the combat in ToEE more than I do PoE. I can't help but feel that I would having a better experience if PoE was TB. My post seems overly negative and that's not at all how I see PoE. From the limited time I've played the game I can already see that there's so much potential here for it to be a great game. I'm sure that by release we'll be playing a completely different animal.
  17. Beta comes out on my son's first birthday. It's OK to skip that, right? I mean, he's not going to remember. Of course, when he's older he'll be like, 'Daddy, why aren't you in any of the photos of my first birthday?' 'Because Daddy was playing PoE all day'. I'd play it with him but to be honest he struggles to grasp to the concept of armour DR and the combat mechanics.
