the thing is simple consoles are made to be in the livingroom, with the user sitting on a couch with a pad (possibly wireless), across a 32"+ TV at an average of 2m (~6ft) from it. the controls of games made for consoles reflect this by being tailored for the pad's limited buttons a game that has controls that are not tailored for the pad, cannot be played on consoles. even if said console can accept M&K as input devices, the user bought it to play games while lazying on the couch. if he wanted to use M&K he would just use the PC

Turn-Based or Real Time
teknoman2 replied to Legionary666's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
If it doesn't matter, because Torment isn't about combat, then why must it have turn-based combat and not RTwP combat like the spiritual predecessor? A decent combat system would have vastly improved Arcanum. i plead indifference on the combat system. it is not important and so i do not care which type they use. if you think the combat of a game like torment is so important that the type used (regrdless of how well or not it is made) will ruin the entire game, i think you are playing the wrong game arcanum would certainly be a better game if combat was not so bad, however it was not the combat that made it what it was, and that is even more true for torment. personally, i would have preffered that torment had no combat at all (both the old and the new) -
this is somewhat unrelated to the topic but not completelly. the biggest problem that fantasy settings have is staleness. 2000 years ago, a warrior with a magic sword did great things... and today you find the sword in a forgoten ruin. and you use it because the world did not progress in these 2000 years and everyone still uses swords. and in another 1000 years, someone will raid your tomb and find the sword and will use it because they will still be fighting with swords, bows and magic. there should be differences if you put 2 games in the same world but with several hundred years separating the events

Save scumming

i for example dont save very often... if certain games had no autosave function, i could play for hours only to die and have to restart the whole thing. i dont want games that do not allow me to save whenever i want, but i just dont use it if i get too into it. however i certainly do not pretend that since i dont have the habbit of saving every 5s the save system of the game should prevent others from doing so -
Turn-Based or Real Time
teknoman2 replied to Legionary666's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
AD&D doesn't have real-time combat either. Planescape: Torment and Baldur's Gate are based on AD&D and are RTwP games. Mindblowing, I know. Anyway, Torment was "marketed" as a spiritual successor to Planescape: Torment during the Kickstarter, but that is not what the backers will get. let's see. torment was a game about the journey of an immortal nameless amnesiac in search of his past. 90% of the gameplay was about his interaction with the world and people around him and how these interactions shaped his character in the attempt of the one who gave him immortality to understand the nature of men. combat was a minor part of the whole, meant to provide some chalenge to a game that played more as an adventure, and was what it was because the more combat oriented BG and IWD had the system ready. and about the contradictions, since combat is not the important part it doesnt really matter if it is TB or RT, so you cant just say "the game is ruined because of the combat system". arcanum had a combat system that sucked in both RT and TB mode, yet it is hailed as one of the best RPG ever -
here's what i would like. PE is set in a fantasy world with a developement level similar to our 17th-18th century. how about for the next KS they move time in the same world forward? puting the new game in a time similar to what our 22nd century may be for a cyberpunk experience, or push it to 25th century for a space opera. thinking about it, they could even use late 19th century for a steampunk look

Turn-Based or Real Time
teknoman2 replied to Legionary666's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Torment ruined by turn based combat system... implying Torment is about combat -
I'm really not that worried by how people capitalise it, everyone knows what is meant either way which is the important thing. It really was more of a question about why people capitalised it that way since it was illogical. Got a sensible suggestion (ta, Hurlshot) so I'll go back to laughing at the people who do get very upset about things like lower case o's. there are native english speaking people who swap they're with their and think it's right... o or O in an acronym is the least of the problems the english language has

Enemy Health Condition
teknoman2 replied to Sedrefilos's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
i dont thnk they said anything about that so far. what im more interested about, is if we can get the option to finish off or spare enemies that droped to 0 stamina but not 0 hp... at least those of sentient races, sparing monsters and animals would be meaningless ouside of quest requirements -

Save scumming
teknoman2 replied to HardRains's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
in the end, the game does have a system that should satisfy everyone you want to change your decisions every time you dont like the result? just play normal mode you can hold back the urge to reload if something does not go your way? play any mode you want you dont want to change your decisions but can't resist the urge to reload? play trial of iron the people of the 3rd category are the ones that usually care about save scumming and think that everyone should play with certain saving restrictions just because they need them -
New Kickstarter incoming
teknoman2 replied to C2B's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
considering that part of the team will have nothing to do after a certain phase of production, they may as well get to prepare a draft for the next in house IP for a next kickstarter. that means the next ks will have more to show from the start... hopefully -
Cosmology of P:E
teknoman2 replied to Mr. Magniloquent's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
i did mention in a very old thread that they could have easter eggs like: a character portrait from PE will decorate the wall of a house in torment or a mosaic in an old church in PE will show a landscape of torment and such. so mostly decorative stuff that you may or may not spot as you play, but no concrete interaction... it just doesn't fit -
Save scumming
teknoman2 replied to HardRains's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
so? someone wants to play like this why deny him the option to do so? if you cannot resist the temptation to scumm, it's your problem and the rest of us who can resist or just want to scumm, dont have to pay for your sin by being forced to play the way YOU want to -
there are a lot of difficulties when it comes to porting a game to consoles. the game itself uses a light engine and is mostly 2D so hardware is not an issue. however to make a port you need the licence for the console BIOS and OS, the agreement of sony or ms to make the game, you need to follow the console maker's pricing policy, and you need to adapt the controls and UI to fit the pad, because let's be honest here, who would plug a m&k on a PS4 to play a game? if you want m&k controls you just play it on pc... the console's main point is to sit back and relax with a controler

Save scumming
teknoman2 replied to HardRains's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
here's save scumming logic in a nutshell i save i make a choice i do not like the result i load and change it ... the game should have a system to prevent me from doing this, because if i reload to change the choice it breaks immersion genius! -
Wasteland 1 Fulfillment
teknoman2 replied to Pandamaniac's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
since i backed torment i got my free copy so i did not think much about it. if you have backed either torment or wasteland 2 it should be available to you from the inxile site. if you only backed PE, wait for someone who knows or try asking at the inxile forums as well so old in fact, it barelly has any graphics -
Update #69: Pillars of Eternity
teknoman2 replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
that's strange. on youtube, the video quality sucked... everything was blurry. on the eurogamer embeded youtube video it was looking sharp and clear of course the good thing is we can still use PE for short, just the P stands for pillars and not project now- 488 replies
