Fallout style combat taunts
LordCrash replied to molarBear's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
If you can turn it off why not. But please don't make messages like that obligatory! -
Some form of "exhaustion" system for mages would be cool. Casting effective but demanding spells should have impacts on the caster to the extend that his possible actions (attack, casting, dodging, healing,....) are limited for a certain amount of time and his defense is low after casting a high level spell (although that is some way of cooldown for EVERY spell). So a mage should really think about which spells he uses in battle, less demanding and less powerful ones or the real effective ones which lead to great exhaustion. A system like that would not only be more "realistic" and coherent in a way fantasy literature deals with magic, it would also make the artifical mana and the artificial memorization systems (which are both only invented for video game mechanics) obsolete without being forced to use a pre-ability cooldown system.

Carsomyr (BG2) was also crafted from the basic sword and the Eye of Tyr. And it was the best two-handed melee weapon in the game for a good paladin/warrior. I like the approach that there are craftable legendary item if very rare or better unique ingredients are needed to craft them.

Suggestions for stretch goals (3.0M or above): -Adding XX major sidequests or XX guild quests to the game -Hiring/delegating additional staff for PE (artists, programmers, designer) -Orchestral soundtrack -Making-of documentary -Adding Russian/Polish/Italian translations (maybe below 3.0M) -Adding (another?) big city to the game with NPCs, story, lore and quests (would probably fit at 4.0M) -Modding tools and support (also 4.0M) But personally I would simply like the expansion of the game to the extend of BG2 if it could be filled with good NPCs, quests, levels and lore (maybe 5.0M stretchgoal or above...)

The new stretch goal is nice, crafting and enchanting will really enhance the gameplay and should be part of a CRPG. But I'm also a little bit disappointed because I hoped that they would announce really high pledge goals at 3.0M or higher. People should have a strong incentive to raise their pledges seriously. And the mega dungeon is not for me, I hate boring dungeons without many connections to the story and the rest of the world (I didn't like them in the IE games either). If I want dumb grinding I can play D3 or Dark Souls.....

A dog companion?
LordCrash replied to bonarbill's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
The problem with pets (and dogs) ist their limited skill and their high mortality in combat. I don't like to have a companion who I have to resurrect after every second fight. I think Obsidian should concentrate on the real companions. But I could think of Pets and dogs as a DLC after release so everyone can choose to have one or not. -
Do not make the game isometric
LordCrash replied to Bercon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
"Obsidian, I like your kickstarter project but please don't make it isometric!" is comparable to "Father, I like that bible book but I don't like that Jesus guy in it, could you excise him?" -
Do not make the game isometric
LordCrash replied to Bercon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
"Please Obsidian, don't do what you have announced on kickstarter and what you have promised to your kickstarter backers....." Senseless thread.... -
I like the comment of Ieo because he outlined something which in my opinion is quite more important that the differentiation tragic and happy. It's the differentiation between tragedy and drama. People often tend to talk about "tragic" events when they watch a drama in which the persons are victims of their environment. But real tragedy is the effect of the personal and emotional struggle of the protagonists. They're not necessarilly in a bad position but their thinking, their emotions and their decisions lead to the downfall of themselves and the people around them. I think it's much harder to write a decent tragedy than a good drama because in the former the writer has to dig deeply in the heart, brain and souls of his characters and he has to describe reasonable but tragic ways of their thinking and not only their reactions to the overall situation.

Yes, but only if they show me ingame footage. Before I pledge more money I would like to see the design approach in the game and the graphics. I've already raised my pledge three times (and a fourth time for the Order) but I would do it once more if they come up with an atmospheric, greedy and quite realistic art design.

Some interesting information about some people's reading skills: 7 of the 10 voters who voted that there shouldn't be a cameo for the OOoE at all in PE aren't members of the Order.........

If I remember correctly permanent death in combat was never random in BG 2. Companions could only die in consequence of certain high level spells like being turned to stone and then getting smashed or being imprisoned or others.

Because it's the core of the combat system of games like BG 2 to find the right tactics against enemies. So when a companions dies in combat and you reload the game, it's a part of the gameplay mechanics (except you're so good that you don't have to reload a single time but even then you have to think about making another approach when a companion dies....).

There are really people who vote for automatic resurrection after combat??? Damn, these modern casual RPGs have really beaten the last bit of reality out of our beloved genre....
