to be read secretly from ten years from now *hugs*. ______ ___ ___ ______ /\__ _\ __ /\_ \ /'___\ /\__ _\ \/_/\ \/ _ __ /\_\ __ \//\ \ ___ /\ \__/ \/_/\ \/ _ __ ___ ___ \ \ \/\`'__\/\ \ /'__`\ \ \ \ / __`\ \ ,__\ \ \ \ /\`'__\/ __`\ /' _ `\ \ \ \ \ \/ \ \ \/\ \L\.\_ \_\ \_ /\ \L\ \ \ \_/ \_\ \__\ \ \//\ \L\ \/\ \/\ \ \ \_\ \_\ \ \_\ \__/.\_\/\____\ \ \____/\ \_\ /\_____\\ \_\\ \____/\ \_\ \_\ \/_/\/_/ \/_/\/__/\/_/\/____/ \/___/ \/_/ \/_____/ \/_/ \/___/ \/_/\/_/ I recognized Bushido from a Mr. S and I'm like, it's good to know others understand. It's sometimes best to understand concepts between a certain party and another. Sometimes there needs to be understanding between secretive parties. For example, take VTMB bloodines for example, examine the dialogue and RP factor, doesn't that motivate one to play the entire game in a ND ruleset aka DID or TOI? Some gamers, they believe in a standard of: "I would prefer to fail with honor than win by cheating." - Sophocles To think a game developer would understand such a thing, but it finally happened and his name was Mr. Sawyer, he understood my play style. The Trial of Iron mode has been presented in Pillars of Eternity as a special, optional challenge for players who wish to undertake it. This mode restricts players to a single save game. If the party is ever defeated, the save game is deleted. We do not believe it is necessary for us to police how players manipulate their save game data. You may choose to play Trial of Iron in whatever manner you see fit. However, I would like to take this opportunity to ask you to consider the following: what does it mean to achieve victory in Trial of Iron if the spirit of the challenge has been broken? What does defeat mean if you have pursued victory in the spirit of the challenge? Think upon this and act as your conscience dictates. Thanks for reading. J.E. Sawyer Director and Lead Designer You remembered gamers like me, who can't bring themselves to load a game after failing. Mr. Sawyer I understand POE and I will conquer your game in a TOI, DID, NDR and I will earn your respect. I will show you bushido in gaming as I've done for the past four years *hugs*.

Don't you guys have a pet dog or something? Micro managing a pet dog is the best feeling in the world. I've taught my dog to do three point scouting in my house. If anybody comes around my home, my dog will tell me about it. You need to have a ranger's spirit deep inside you to understand this class. That pet companion is going to save you from dying on trial of iron on POTD difficulty, SHOW SOME RESPECT MAN. That bear will die for you, if you just watch out for him, he'll watch out for you. NONE of you understand trial of iron. It makes me angry. *angry rant* *angry rant that would rage a normal gamer....* *angry rage* *anger that you would never understand* *anger from*...

I voted for: I would prefer that any future PoE games/expansions be fully voiced, even if this forces Obsidian to limit other features to get the money. (4 votes [2.56%]) I demand that you guys send me some kind of methamphetamine for reading all that god damn text since I'm the 3%.... *sigh*. There are some people out there who simply cannot read text that goes beyond precise, logical, efficient statements. Some men out there are devoid of any emotion and need someone to convey that emotion to them through voice acting.

I play on POTD difficulty & TOI, but I still don't see a reason to have multiple grimoires. Will I eventually figure it out? I'm new to this genre of gaming.

How do I quickly sell my items?
luzarius replied to Idleray's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It seems that every item doesn't have value until you die and think, "****, I could've used that item against these mobs". *censored text, censored text, censored text* -
So, traps?
luzarius replied to abaris's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
New POST: Disarm traps, but never use or rely on them for POTD, TOI difficulty. Old POST: I agree that Cassandra was a trap, completely uncalled for, especially with that mannish face. -
Is There A Way?
luzarius replied to Grinch's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
OP wants an AI tactics system that he can program to cover basic encounters, but he'll pause when needed for new scenarios. Neo went through the same thing, occasionaly identifying upgrades to the matrix. C++, too much work. C#, no problem. -
So Paladins and rangers..
luzarius replied to cambam33's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
You have to ask yourself why I took a 3 in constitution and a 3 in resolve on my ranger. Do I really need all that extra constitution with a bear companion who serves as an off tank? If I'm rp'ing a character who has such deadly aim, wouldn't that come at the expense of being vulnerable to being interrupted? There is a method to the madness that is ranger and once you figured it out, you'll love the class. You mentioned the word BORING. That automatically means you need to do the following: 1) up the difficulty 2) turn on trial of iron You won't be bored anymore and it will increase your immersion ten fold. Boredom stems from not being challenged. I'm against meta-gaming to the highest degree which is why I strive to beat games in blind no death play throughs. I'm not sure about the paladin though. -
A ranger's bear companion serves three powerful & versatile purposes: 1. Extra meat in a shield wall - Eder, Bear & Kana form a shield wall then have Durance put down consecrated ground, followed by armor of faith. This wall protects aloth & your ranger in the back while they destroy everything. 2. Off tank - The bear moves VERY fast and can actually hold aggro with his movement speed alone. You can literally use the bear to run around and hold aggro of a few mobs while the bear doesn't take any hits. 3. Flanker - The bear can be used to get that flanking bonus which reduces enemy deflection by 10, this is EXTREMELY important because it increases the chance of landing your wounding shot which is an extremely powerful ability. How to avoid the bear from getting knocked out? - Durance's consecrated ground & armor of faith which not only helps the bear, but your entire party anyways.

In regards to the profanity discussion in this thread, I just want to say I support profanity in games, as much profanity as you can possibly fit in. Games need to be darker and more sinister IMO. NO to censorship, and YES to a writers creative freedom.

So Paladins and rangers..
luzarius replied to cambam33's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Ranger is one of the most powerful classes, ideal for path of the damned difficulty in trial of iron mode. Check my link for a ranger guide. It shows how powerful the class is. Just keep in mind, it's actually more fun to discover the power of a ranger yourself. The journey in learning how to ranger is a lot of fun, so my guide could be considered a spoiler. A lot of the classes require this journey of learning how to use properly. On a side note, POE has one of the best combat systems I've seen in a game. -
5 man party which was my druid, aloth, eder, kana & durance. I wish I could update my original post. I need to ask you guys an important question, but I'm worried about spoilers. Does the game ever prevent you from resting for free at the inn? DO NOT ANSWER THIS QUESTION, but it's a question that needs to be asked. (Confusing I know). If the game actually prevents you from resting at an inn, then I can understand the importance of saving magical spells for when it matters most. But how do you know when it matters most unless you meta game? That is why I meet challenges with such overwhelming force as to not lose. Trial of Iron demands you pay the iron price. If the game prevents you from resting at the inn for free, then that would change everything. Remnids me of Scrotie's suggestion as to keep players in an area until it's clear, it's more in depth than that. It would be nice to see Scrotie link his recommendation exactly, it has LOTS of merit. NOTE: I am trying to offer as much feedback as possible, without bias to be used for POE 2. Keep in mind, I enjoy the current system even though I think it's slightly flawed with unlimited resting at the inn for free. I repeat, I do not mind the current system as is, but if it were to evolve, I don't mind that either. If the current system ends up in POE 2 I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THAT, but if you decide to make it more challenging on the hardest difficulty, well............. I WOULD GLADLY WELCOME THAT BECAUSE I'M A BAD ASS AT NO DEATH RULESETS AND TRIAL OF IRON. HELL YES, I AM THE KING OF NO DEATH RULESET, I AM THE KING OF TRIAL OF IRON. NONE OF YOU WILL USURP ME (translation, this is a friendly challenge in hopes of motivating me to stream again on twitch.tv, Bioware broke my heart with Dragon Age Inquisition, if you want to get in my face, perhaps even start a fig.. N/m .... I'm bad like that .. oops).

That is awesome! My only concern with rogue is survivability. In the start of the game at level 2, I try to kill three xaurips with the rogue in valewood, but the rogue ends up missing too much even with the weapon focus adventurer using a pollaxe and gets owned by the Xaurips. If a rogue has that much trouble vs three xaurips at level 2, how is he going to handle a critical moment at higher level if he gets a few enemies targetting him? for POTD, TOI, is a rogue worth it? As a ranger you get the bear companion which is an extra meat shield to form a defensive wall.

Wat? Arbalest has no DR penetration, lower average damage than arquebus, and is nearly the same speed. Both have -0.3 crit modifier. The only bonus is +5 accuracy. It's nowhere near a clear choice, in fact the advantage goes to the gun if you ask me. I'm starting to learn that maybe equipping both Arq & Arbalest may come in handy since weapon focus soldier skill adds 6 accuracy to both. You can use a slightly faster arbalest to kill lesser enemies then use the arq for high DR enemies, leader type enemies. Example: You don't want to waste an ARQ shot on a Xaurip, so instead use arbalest against Xaurips. BUT for the Xaurip champion, you'll want to use ARQ + wounding shot while it's flanked or has been debuffed. I'm not totally sure about this strategy though, going to try it tonight.

This games combat system completely destroys Divinity Original Sin. DOS combat had no depth. However the opposing element strategy was kind of fun, I'll give DOS that much. In POE if you put down slicken then put fire on top of it, have a nice bonus explosion would be cool. This is something to be considered for POE 2 or perhaps modded in. UPDATE: I just want to say that I'm experiencing the same problem as the OP. I do not want to rush to beat this game, because chances are there might not be another one like this for another 10 years.

I ditched the Druid and switched back to my ranger build so I wouldn't have to go back and rest so much. The spellcasters have to rest a lot on POTD. I guess I'm just lazy, especially after a few beers... *CHEERS*

Just want to give a strategy update: YOUR RANGER BEING ATTACKED BY MULTIPLE ENEMY ARCHERS/RANGED If your ranger starts getting attacked in this manner, don't mess around, immediately have Durance cast withdraw on you and just go into a defensive mode until your ranger comes back into action. Armor 1) Aloth - Simple clothing armor, so he can rapid cast his wand attacks with penetrating blast. 2) Ranger - Simple clothing armor, so ranger can shoot as fast as possible. 3) Durance - Brigandine or plate armor with hatchet & shield ready to go if need be, crossbow as main weapon 4) Kana - Brigandine or plate armor with hatchet & shield ready to go if need be, crossbow as main weapon 5) Eder - Plate or Brigandine (plate most of the time) with hatchet & large shield, ranged weapon if need be in extra slot Spells ALOTH - Miasma of Dull mindedness This spell lowers the enemies deflection, reflex & willpower. That lets your Ranger's ranged attack hit more often with higher chance to critical. Sometimes this spell can miss, so attack the enemy on which it sticks. WAITING FOR THE SHOT Don't be hasty to fire off your arqebues or arbalest shot. Wait until the enemy is either flanked or debuffed before attempting to land a wounding shot. This applies to any comapnions with a crossbow or slower ranged weapon.

I just started playing a druid on POTD, my god, I'm constantly running to the inn to rest lol.

See, this is the problem here: instead of actually trying it for real, you just rely on hearsaying. Fair enough, you got me wanting to try monk again hehe.
