  1. My character is a ranger with a bear companion. I basically assumed the enemy bear would be two to three times as strong as my own bear just to be safe. Unfortunately it turns out the enemy bear adhered to a different law of physics and killed my own bear and myself in a cheap single blow. It's my own fault for trying to role play in a role playing game. As always meta gaming is key.
  2. The lack of voice acting could of been easily rectified with a simple in game recording feature. Simple Basic In Game Recording Feature 1. You enable "recording" mode and this enables a button next to each of the npc's dialogue. 2. You click this recording button and it allows you to record your voice as you read the NPC's dialogue. 3. When you're finished it names the wav file to the same ID of the dialogue. 4. You click "share voice pack" and all of the voice files you create get uploaded to a voice pack repository organized by individual NPC. 5. Players can rank each voice pack to see which is the best for NPC's and then download the voice pack to their game. Eventually every NPC in game gets high quality voice acting due to the nature of the ranking system. Voice acting problem solved.
  3. It's pretty much official now. Release day is actually Beta release. I think we should all just accept this new trend.
  4. Guys, guys, the next generation of players has its own grognards now! All of the squees, guys. All of the squees. Setting up good tactics requires skill and knowledge, it's not an easy thing to do. You need to completely understand the combat before you attempt to apply any type of tactics. I don't want the game to play itself, I want to setup my tactics and have my companions follow my orders during real time combat. It's the equivalent of planning a battle BEFORE going into battle, it's called strategy and planning. If I wanted to do everything manually, I'd go play starcraft 2 and spam the worker creation button every god damn 18 seconds.
  5. It was kickstarter funded which means they didn't have enough money for quality control team or any kind of testing. It's not that big of a deal actually, because the game just entered beta a few days ago.
  6. I find myself doing the same thing in every fight, if there was a tactics system I could eliminate this redundancy and focus more on the battle in real time. First inquisition and now this game, rpg games are dying. In Dragon Age Origins I could set up my tactics and eliminate redundancy. How the hell is this game getting such high reviews without a tactics system?
  7. I'm going to try POE one more time. PoE metagaming tip #134 -Don't fight anything, don't explore and skip as much content as you can until you have a max party, then you can start enjoying the game.
  8. I'm going to give the game one more chance. This time I'm not fighting anything until I have a full party. Sucks that I have to meta game in this way.
  9. Did I mention that I was a RANGER with my own BEAR companion? I guess I should've assumed my character knows nothing about survival in the wild against bears.
  10. If you die, just reload and come back later. Obsidian are the masters of creating imbalanced games that force the player to cheat and metagame.
  11. Are you being serious? Trial of Iron and no death rulesets should always be played blind, that is where the fun is, not metagaming your way through every fight like a noob. Seems to me this game is just meta gaming, die, meta game, reload, die meta game, reload, visit a wiki, cheat, die, reload meta game.
  12. I only play no death, dead is dead aka trial of iron. Dying and reloading is stupid, there should be the following: 1. some kind of subtle way to know if a fight is too hard, keyword SUBTLE. 2. a way to disengage a battle with a penalty, in my case the penalty would of been a dead bear companion, my ranger should've felt like she lost her best friend, (it's called roleplaying) 3. add a basic challenge scale I would of gladly used all my health potions and any food, anything I could muster had I not died in one cheap single blow. I have a bear companion. Judging from how my own bear fights, I'd guess the bear in the cave was twice as strong and hit twice as hard, but that's not the case. Obsidian fails again. I don't know why I even bother trying their games. They have no clue what roleplaying is about and they have no clue how to balance a game. They will never figure it out.
  13. I just started playing this game. I entered a cave with a bear. I figured I'd send in my pet bear first, if it died I would flee. As I suspected my companion bear died in one hit. So I ran towards the cave exit, but I couldnt' flee, the game wouldn't let me. Then the bear killed me in one shot. This reminded me of dragon age origins mechanics, but DAO had a challenge scale. The question is how can I gauge a fight before hand? Is it possible to disengage from a losing battle? Do I need some kind of skill to see if an enemy is too hard? Does this mean I have to keep leaving areas and coming back later? That's annoying and is the main reason I stopped playing DOS, I don't want to have a thousand quests backed up, just because I have to keep coming back later, come back later, come back later.... Oh I have to come back later? YEA MAN JUST GO BACK LATER.... DUDE, IT"S AN OLD SCHOOL RPG, YOU HAVE TO LEAVE AND COME BACK LATER... ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ............................. ... Pst, just come back later..... .... 14. No, no you're a "fan of this genre" yet. Son, your penitence is: Go play Ultima 4 (it's free!). Until you discover what makes it a classic RPG, you're not allowed to call yourself a fan. Also, "like it's from 2001" will be taken as a compliment by a lot of the Kickstarter backers, including me. Ultima 4? Good lord, what am I even looking at. Okay, I'll keep trying to get into CRPG's then. At least Divinity Original Sin got my foot in the door. I guess I'll try to look past the graphics then.
  15. Why are you making POE in 2D? I saw your screenshots and the latest videos, POE graphics look extremely dated, like it's from 2001 or something.
  16. I livestream single player RPG games in a no death rule set. This means if the hero dies or the party wipes I start the entire game over again. I find this playstyle enhances immersion ten fold. I don't do it for the challenge but for the immersion of knowing the character has never died. An epic story and strong emotionally driven content have driven me to play single player rpgs in this unique fashion. Games that I've enjoyed a great deal with this rule set: Dragon Age Series Mass Effect Series Vampire Masquerade Bloodlines Witcher Series Kotor 1 Skyrim Fallout 3 I enjoyed the above games a great deal, listened to all the dialogue, enjoyed the codex, story, lore & characters to the highest degree possible. The only two games I've raged on and couldn't get into: Kotor 2 - I enjoyed KOTOR 1 a great deal, but for some reason when I got to KOTOR 2 everything fell flat. KOTOR 2 was extremely boring unfortunately and I couldn't get off peragus station. New Vegas - I enjoyed Fallout 3 but for some reason the beginning of new vegas is extremely boring. Nothing exciting happens at all. Fallout 3 had a very strong introduction but New Vegas does not. I played until I reached New Vegas and didn't have the motivation to pursue anything anymore. One thing I've noticed in KOTOR 2 & New Vegas is that you don't pace the dialogue. You'll put 20 different facts & details all in one shot instead of letting the player ask more questions in between. For some reason the dialogue feels like I'm in a classroom instead of feeling what the character is going through. What I'd like to see from Obsidian You need to work on your introductions more. The first two hours of a single player RPG are THE MOST IMPORTANT. Remember Mass Effect 1,2,3 intros? Remember DA series intro? Remember Witcher series intro? Remember Fallout 3 intro of watching your char grow up? Remember VTMB when you first talk to Jack? My heartfelt advice is to make the introduction in your RPGS more exciting. I will be trying to play New Vegas again tomorrow. If anyone would like to come watch and help motivate me to play this game please do so knowing what RPGs I've enjoyed in the past.
