/sigh So now it's not just that you don't like reading, but you can't understand the words? Obvious troll is obvious. *shakes head* I guess sometimes being brutally honest catches people off guard. When I used to stream on twitch, I'd always open up the dictionary and look up the meaning of words I didn't know. Based on your logic, if someone looks up a word in a dictionary, that's trolling? LOL wtf.

................... You need to up the difficulty, simple as that. The best way to experience the story of the game is with the following difficulty and game mode, TRUST ME. Difficulty: Path of the Damned Mode: Trial of Iron The game is too easy unless you play on path of the damned in trial of iron mode. After playing in the above mode for about an hour, I have to admit, the game is ten times better. I find myself far more engrossed in every part of the games story now. Every decision you make in the game is life or death. But, I don't recommend playing this way lightly, it's HARD, but highly rewarding. Example: In the beginning of the game you have a chance to save Heodan or leave him behind. On Path of the Damned difficulty, the decision to save him actually made sense. I sat there and thought to myself, if I let Heodan die, then my chances for survival shoot way down. I need Heodan. But the only option I had was to throw my weapon and lose that weapon. I love my spear, for POTD difficulty the spear provided me with accuracy so I can actually land hits on my enemies. I had to choose between my spear and Heodan since I didn't have high enough dexterity. Guess what I did? I threw the spear and saved Heodan knowing that his extra damage would help me in the long run. But now instead of a spear I'm using a dagger since it gives me that accuracy I need to land hits. Conclusion I now feel what these characters are going through. When Heodan talks about how difficult it is to move forward, I understand completely. Path of the Damned difficulty matches the same intensity of the story. SUMMARY: If the intensity of the story does not match the difficulty of the game, then you won't feel challenged, therefore you will become bored. The only problem is POTD is difficult and Trial of Iron is unforgiving. But now I find myself highly interested in every single part of the game, hanging upon every word muttered (almost every word). Update... I DIED TO A THRONG OF BOARS AT MAGRANS AREA. POTD TRIAL OF IRON. I learned what I did wrong though. Basically when there are too many enemies, I need to lay down that healing circle that Durance has, then buff the parties damage reduction with his other spell. This base tactic will ensure that I have enough time to deal damage.

Where's the modding info?
luzarius replied to Jartan's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
No that's a misunderstanding. Unity complicates SOME types of modding because the engine uses proprietary formats for graphics/sound/etc. A lot of flat data like classes/talents/spells/etc should be in easy to mod files. If Obsidian didn't do that then they purposely tried to shut down modding. Agreed, Unity has a middle layer that doesn't need to be there. If you want to play a sound file, just play the god damn sound file, there shouldn't be a need for a .unity3d library file that tells you where the files are. -
Two-handed Axe petition
luzarius replied to Phant's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
If the game supported modding, you could easily add a two handed axe. -
I don't mind any form of technical reading. I love short descriptive, efficient sentences that empower me to solve a problem. But god damn it man, how the hell do you guys bring yourselves to read all the text in this game? I could not finish Divinity Original Sin due to all that god damn reading. I tried drinking strong coffee, but it didn't help. Do you think I should consider some kind of legal methamphetamine for Pillars of Eternity? I feel like I've been baited and switched. The beginning of this game was excellent: But once the lack of voice acting creeps in, it's just sooo hard to stay interested in the game.
-
OP, Basically it's the lack of voice acting. You reach a part in the game where there is no voice acting and you get bored from all the reading. So to experience something new and exciting you decide to re-roll a new character. Try listening to this youtube video, it gives some great advice when it comes to Pillars of Eternity book reading. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQfiWFwVF8M It helps a little bit.

I'll just leave this here. Link primary sources, not secondary. http://www.giantbomb.com/articles/the-little-fighting-game-that-could/1100-4587/ I hope the extra money raised went into staff salaries, because they're not making all that much on that budget. In regards to that fighting game, if they needed that much outsourcing then they shouldn't have made that game in the first place. On a side note, quality voice acting can be found at any college. $100.00 for four hours of recording is what I'd offer, then I'd grind the hell out of that college student until I got what I needed from them. You could literally stand outside of an advanced actors classroom and just fish for actors who need money while going to college. A lot of these students have talent and are willing to work for dirt cheap. Then again, I'm not going to expect people to be as resourceful as me, cuz well, I'm a bad ass!

Obsidian & Shire pharmaceuticals team up to bring free samples of Vyvanse to POE owners. By Trolaluya, featured Columnist Apr 09, 2015 In a game with with massive amounts of meticulous reading, Shire pharmaceuticals and gaming company Obsidian strike a deal to bring free samples of Vyvanse (Lisdexamfetamine) to owners of Pillars of Eternity. Early trial testimonials seem to have gained positive reviews. "Ever since I started taking Vyvanse, I've been able to read the massive amounts of unvoiced text in the game".

This actually sorta gets to me. There's a lot more VO:s in PoE than there were in the IE games, which I don't necessarily consider bad, but none of it feels memorable. Even the voices the player has to choose from feels sorta meh. The storyteller's voice in the first slide before you even make your character was pretty good, but past that, I haven't come across anything that compares to even the CNPC:s of BG1, save perhaps Edér, but that's possibly because he just feels appropriate, rather than awesome. I often harp on quantity being a quality all in it's own when it comes to CNPC:s, but when it comes to VO:s, the price tag is so high that I really feel that less is more. I'd rather have it very rarely, but when I have it, it's Irenicus, it's Xan, it's Annah, it's Dak'kon, it's Vhailor, and it's Sarevok. I won't mention Gaelan Bayle because that's a sad chapter. I like Eder's, Aloth & Durance's voice acting. ESPECIALLY Durance. "Saw you in the flames..." Durance is bat **** insane, I love it lol.

ATTENTION PEOPLE WHO DON'T WANT MORE VOICE ACTING I'm going to destroy your logic. Let's say Obsidian releases a voice pack DLC that costs them $10,000.00. I purchase the voice pack DLC for $9.95. We can be sure that POE will sell at least 2200 copies of the Voice Pack DLC. That's around $21,890.00 with 9k profit after bs. The profit can be used to enhance other parts of the game or help fund further development for POE 2. No offense but Obsidian has a chance to profit from us who want voice acting. To all those who don't want voice acting, why are you denying Obsidian $10,000.00 in profit? I bet there are many Bioware fans who play POE and would love more voice acting.

Hard mode is too easy.
luzarius replied to Mazisky's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
you'll figure it out trust me, the journey to getting good is a lot of fun. at first i was horrible at this game -
1. allocate 45 minutes to playing. 2. start a new game 3. set the difficulty to normal and turn on trial of iron. 4. listen to the introduction and every line of dialogue. 5. make your character 6. turn on all the helpers in the options menu 7. listen to every single line of dialogue and roleplay 8. during combat go slow and think about your choices 9. once you reach gilded vale, take a break.

Hard mode is too easy.
luzarius replied to Mazisky's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I just tried path of the damned for the first time. Calisca misses A LOT and my rogue dies fast. If I play on hard, then it's way too easy. Not sure what to do. -
Fighter as damage dealer
luzarius replied to HelpHelpHelp's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
For trial of iron, a fighter damage dealer has good damage and survivability. I like using a fighter dps with a reach weapon and light armor behind the tank. If the tank goes down, then the fighter can still tank for a while because of constant recovery. -
You guys act as if I'm going to force you to download the community voice pack. All I'm asking is for about 10-20 lines of code that will open up the ability for the community to mod the game and add more voices. The Eothan temple for example, Wirtan has no voice acting. I dont' think any NPC's in that place have voice acting. It just doesn't feel as immersive as it could be. Voice acting gives you the emotional drive to complete a quest, it's also an emotional driving factor for Trial of Iron. I know this out of experience. I've been doing no death rulesets for years on my twitch channel. What gets you through Trial of Iron first and foremost is immersion and emotional drive. It's fascinating that you guys are satified with just reading, it's mind boggling. I wish, I wish, I wish I could be satisfied with just reading.
