  1. Those charts actually exist because the pain cannot be measured, or verified. It's all subjective--what you say is an 8 might be a 5 to somebody else, etc. There is no "pain unit", no discreet measuring system. There is no way to objectively quantify pain. Yep. This is, incidentally, a large part of why people with chronic pain issues have such a hard time getting the regular medication they need without meeting with suspicion that they're junkies or the like. It's a pretty serious problem that leaves many people suffering needlessly when their doctors won't believe them on what they're experiencing.
  2. So rather like with physical pain, then? Not really because as subjective as those "1-10 pain scale charts" are, physical pain can be measured, verified and more importantly denotes an underlying condition. I'm gonna guess you're not a doctor.
  3. I'm not very fond of voice acting in general; it limits how much editing of dialogue you can do, and if something's done wrong that isn't caught until the game's out (say, a main quest NPC assuming the PC is going to be male, as I ran into), you're not in a great position.
  4. Actually, no, that wasn't the problem at all; last night I loaded an earlier save from before Nest and entered Teir Evron, at which point the central thingy was selectable. Just now, I loaded the exact same save again and it's not. It's also doing what I described in the OP again, with the repeating log messages and the phantom rain blight. eta: and then I loaded up that save a third time, picked up the adra shard from the altar, and it became selectable. When I tried that and had Nest active as well, however, it did not work. eta2: Just tried my save with Nest active and went back and picked up the shard again; this time it worked. So either I'm misremembering or there's something rather strange going on.
  5. Well, I used a high stealth character for one map where being spotted meant the whole place going hostile, which I did not much want.
  6. You have to make one of the factions angry with you for that, however; some people may prefer no murder sprees.
  7. I hope you write more companions, then! Carrie Patel too, I loved Sagani.
  8. Is there a cap on skill benefits, i.e. if I have 10 Stealth on a character naturally and give them +2 Stealth boots will they get the benefits of 12 Stealth?
  9. Yep; that all it takes is accepting the second quest from a faction, not (partially) completing it, was a terrible way to do things, IMO.
  10. Read the lines out loud as you go. In different voices.
  11. Metsu - go off and get another level elsewhere first?
  12. Nope. Started off fast, got slower with time, improved a bit with 1.03, then got bad again.
  13. Possible to break the main quest in Twin Elms: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/76670-teir-evron-bugged-cant-progress-main-quest I've got a theory about a possible workaround, but in my case it's simpler to just back up a couple hours.
  14. Hmm. Does The Old Queen and the New King seem to have a way you could complete or fail it without Galawain's favour? Talking to Hylea first definitely seemed optional for the other quest, so finishing them both might allow you progress. If not, this is pretty clearly gamebreaking, so I'd certainly hope they would put out a retroactive fix.
  15. You can still enter the other groups' areas and buy from them after committing to another faction by accepting a quest, though if they wind up hating you in the course of the quest, I'm willing to wager that may not last.

  17. Especially after running into a (potentially) game-breaking bug, leaving me very happy I can just back up to a save from two hours ago.
  18. Yup, tested this out and I was right: accepting The Nest Above The Clouds after you've been given Council of Stars but before you've gone into Teir Evron to pray renders the central... thingy in the room unselectable, preventing you from progressing with the main quest. Going and killing the dragon without talking to Hylea first, then turning in that quest might be a workaround, but I'm just going to back up a couple hours, myself.
  19. I tried moving most of my files elsewhere, and it apparently regenerated them from some other location, since I had 5 minutes of the main menu spinning while it loaded up my games and then they were all still there.
  20. At present I'm looking at about 90s to load up my game initially, 30s to transition areas, and 45s to load my quicksave in game. Here are my saves (the last one's experiencing some quest-related problems, incidentally, so I don't know if that'll affect anything you're looking into): https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bw56i-bKiIvXeXdBbEpuWk03UmM/view?usp=sharing
