  1. http://linuxgamenews.biz/2012/11/01/an-interview-with-chris-avellone-on-project-eternity-a-word-on-romance/ FYI that took me 5 secs to find on google with the search terms "Chris Avellone romance interview" Just as bad, or perhaps even worse. I prefer no joy . There are far more interesting aspects of personal relationships than romance. I'd rather interact about something else.
  2. Aspects of relationship will probably be explored, but there won't be a Bioware style romance in the game. I will be glad for the change. I'm so sick of happy-happy joy-joy. There's a Chris Avellone interview somewhere that gives some interesting examples.
  3. While I really enjoy playing DotA and think it is probably the #1 competitive game around atm, ultimately Project Eternity is a different style of game and will borrow primarily from the infinity engine games. Plus I believe Josh and the team play League of Legends and not Dota (yeah i know right ) Last year however I did interview Josh and ask a question about the combat system in regards to WC3/DotA2 because it is a good example of a Real Time combat system. http://www.cybergamer.com.au/article/3083/page-2/Interview-with-Josh-Sawyer-of-Obsidian-Entertainment/ While DotA 2 is relatively easy to understand, P:E will have far more complexity in many areas of the game, as shown by glimpses of the proposed armor systems. DotA 2 has 3 animations for an attack (frontswing/attack/backswing), I think Project Eternity will only have one like the Infinity Engine games. However Firearms will probably have three (aim, attack, reload). The damage will have a smaller damage range more akin to WC3 than D&D (for example Longsword does 5-8 damage instead of 1- but this decision is influenced more by common sense than anything else. We will probably see statistics similar to D&D or Fallout-style I assume. I think Josh is going to try and avoid creating dump stats. Hopefully abilities will be nothing like DotA as this game will not have timed-cooldowns
  4. They will not release an alpha of this game, I'm sure as much as people would love to play it it would probably attract nothing but negative reactivity and story spoilers. Playable beta is fine, which we can probably expect early 2014 I suppose.
  5. With the sort of 'colonial theme' of much of the game, it will be interesting to see what musical themes come of that.
  6. As I said before they only have one Web Developer (and that is not solely his job) and he had his first child over the new year. I still think it is unreasonable to be getting all frantic about the fulfillment site, even though it has been 5 months since it was announced.
  7. You quoted me assuming I was talking about Josh Sawyer, when I was in fact talking about the other people in this thread who have expressed criticism of BG2 while also exclaiming that BG1/2 are some of their favorite games, of which you went ahead and insulted them for it. That is why I was confused, because what I said wasn't about Josh Sawyer, so I assumed that you thought it was about me. So I don't think it's me who's the drog. More like you just ignore anyone's points that address the plausibility of your statements and continue repeating the same story over and over.
  8. Nope it was in BG2 as a default feature. It was also in IWD1 vanilla IIRC albeit bound to a different key. I think BG2 was TAB and IWD was ALT
  9. Probably because I thought you were talking about me and not Josh Sawyer? Were you using "you" as a plural in your post?
  10. And also as I've stated before, I think that's a good thing because we really shouldn't be comparing BG2 to P:E in many aspects because it involves a different tier of play. BG1 - Level 1-7(8-10) BG2 - Level 7-17(19-21) PE will be from roughly 1-12 in D&D equivalent. PE:2 however, different story.
  11. I'll agree with you if you can find where I said there's very little I like about the games
  12. I'm not 100% sure Helm understands that you can like something and still be able to criticize it. for the record, BG1 and BG2 are my favorite games
  13. *this post is unimportant, mods please delete* I posted a link to a new interview but it wasnt really an interview just some formspring comments id already seen ahha
  14. Rogue, Barbarian, Chanter, Paladin and Druid have not been assigned an NPC yet. 2 unannounced CNPCs to go my guess is Aumaua Barbarian and Godlike Rogue, but I'll be glad to be wrong.
  15. But how can you not like an NPC with lines like this: Never said I didn't like him For a BG2 NPC he was pretty good. There were less interesting characters.
  16. nah it was post-update 49 and not in an update, reason being it may not even be implemented.
  17. I think that the writing level of Baldur's Gate 2 was aimed at the teenage audience moreso than Baldur's Gate 1 was, and many of the CNPCs come off that way. a few examples: Jan Jansen - whole dialogue was pretty much just one huge lol, some found it funnier than others Minsc - classical dumb but good-hearted strong guy, done with a good spin of humor Aerie - damsel in distress, need I say more Edwin - evil wizard huarhuarhuar, also with the comical Edwina quest thrown in I have to say when I was 13 years old, playing BG2 for the first time, I was all Aerie <3 as well. Josh was a lot older when it came out, so I can see how someone in their 20s playing it for the first time might think yeah ... this is a bit corny. Most of us here now I assume are 25+, so the writing in P:E will hopefully have a completely different tone and higher level of maturity.
  18. As far as I know the only advantage to using a reach weapon is that you are able to target enemies from behind another unit (assuming normal collision size). Since this is a real time game though and not based on rounds and probably with no 'initiative' mechanic, technically you will more often than not be able to land the first attack using a reach weapon vs a one handed opponent, because you will be able to commence your attack before the opponent is in range.
  19. Oh what do you think you'll do regarding battle music? That's something a lot of composers handle very differently ie. leaning more heavily on choirs, horns, or drums, weird stuff (BG2 had strange battle music) or strings (Star Wars haha) etc Would be nice to have a bit of a variety For strings you could try something like the start to I suppose
