  1. The extra portraits should be in a $2.50 DLC with the horse armor. Joking. Joking.
  2. I personally think Obsidian has done a great job prioritizing how they want to build the game. For me at least, the story, the gameplay, and the "fun factor" is a lot more important than graphics. I can think of, <cough>, of another game that was Kickstarted earlier than POE, that had a similar budget, that had "nice graphics" that still hasn't released it's 2nd installment. I think the developers have also mentioned this repeatedly in the past, that with the way the game is designed perspective-wise, there just isn't that amount of detail needed for the characters.
  3. Sounds great, Justin! Looking forward to seeing some of the live recording footage as well. It's pretty cool that thousands of people worldwide are going to listen to your work in a couple of months!
  4. Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in the mix about POE. I love where the game is going. I am a big supporter of the game. I love the direction that Josh and Adam is taking the game. The game is going to be great. I really, really hope the developers don't think that the posts on the Obsidian Forums are representative of the majority of the Kickstarter backers of the game. There's a small vocal minority that seems to post on the forums. I think the majority of the backers are supportive of the game, have busy lives, and they are just waiting to play it when it comes out. I backed the game a while ago, and I am relatively busy working. I know the game is going to come out months from now. It's going to take time for everything to come together. Therefore, it's not productive, for me personally, to post every day on the forums, because I am busy daily and I don't have anything to complain about. I don't have any negative feedback to give. I really enjoy RPGs but I am not obsessed with them to the point where I am going to hack the game to look at game assets or start stalking which developers/voice actors/artists/programmers joined or left the project or make daily Youtube videos on gameplay. I trust Josh and Adam. I know they are going to make an awesome game based on the updates. All the complaining on the forums, in my opinion, is such rubbish. I honestly just don't care about the minutiae of damage calculations and realtime vs turn-based combat which seems to just go on and on in the forums. It's the equivalent of beating a dead horse. The game is in great hands. Josh strikes me as an extremely, extremely passionate and smart developer. Obsidian has a great track record of turning out amazing RPGs. The team will take care of the details and the bugs. I don't think it's right for me to try to micromanage or tell Josh and the development team what to do. They know WAY more about making games than I do. I trust them to make the right decisions. Granted, when the Beta came out, things were a little rough around the edges, but that has all been fixed or is in the process of being fixed. Long story short, the game is going to be awesome. Supporters probably don't post more because they see the game is heading in the right direction and that there isn't really anything to complain about. One last thing. I really, really hope the development team doesn't get sidetracked trying to please everyone about the game. Some of the posters are, in my opinion, perhaps looking for their marbles??? Nothing is going to satisfy them. Josh has a specific vision for how the game should turn out and I would hate to see it compromised by people armchair quarterbacking in the forums. The development of POE should not turn into something out of the "Pentagon Wars". I am confident that POE will be an awesome game!
  5. To be honest, I really don't think there's much to talk about at this point. The decision has already been made. The game is going to be released some time next year. I think it was good than Obsidian was upfront with the forum and told everyone relatively ahead of time than delaying the game at the last second. Should Obsidian have sent out a backer update to all the backers? Sure. It would have been a nice gesture. But they did communicate the news in the forums and also on twitter. And they will probably mention it in the next backer update. Brandon and company have consistently done 85 updates over the past 2 years. They haven't asked for more money. They haven't split the game into 2 parts. They haven't put anything into early access. They have been very professional in the way they have handled forum feedback. I am more than willing to give Obsidian a pass on this. And there really wasn't a set release date before the delay. It was simply Winter 2014. I don't think it was terribly urgent news that needed to be sent out to the backers right away. I doubt that the majority of the backers have allocated Winter 2014 as a blocked off time to play Pillars and this delay is going to alter people's plans for work or school in any significant way. Life goes on. Some people are happy about the decision. Some people aren't. But discussing whether the delay is good or bad isn't going to change the date at this point. I am not a programmer. I am not an artist. I am not a musician. I am not a writer. I can't fly over to Irvine and magically kill all the bugs or make new art or make the game come out any quicker. The game is delayed and I am going to let the people at Obsidian do their jobs. I think if we want the game to be better, we should probably listen to what Brandon has said in the original announcement. Obsidian doesn't want to ship a buggy game and they want to see what players find frustrating or helpful. At this point, I think if the community wants the game to be as good as it can be and to help contribute towards that goal, they should continue doing what they have been doing with the beta, which is reporting bugs and giving feedback on gameplay.
  6. To the developers, I just wanted to post this to say that I fully support the game and that I think the game is coming along very, very well. I think some of the posts on the forum can be a little misrepresentative of the overall community. I just want to say that a lot of the bile is probably coming from a small vocal minority of backers. Obsidian has made fantastic games. New Vegas, NWN II, KOTOR2 were amazing games. You have a great team working very, very hard on the game. I just wanted to voice some words of encouragement and to say that I really appreciate all the hard work that everyone had put into making the game. I have full confidence that Pillars will be a great game.
  7. And /thread. This thread is getting borderline stalkerish. Who goes to all the trouble of breaking open a beta build to look at voice packs? I don't even know WHY there is angst over the voices in Project Eterrnity. Obsidian had said almost from the start that voice acting was expensive and that the majority of the game wouldn't have voice acting. People are getting bent out of shape over this stuff? Who cares??? And then there's this bizarre discussion about Cadegund being cut. There hasn't even been any background info about Cadegund. There's ONE concept art. How can people be upset about a character being cut that people barely know anything about??? These are not dealbreakers.
  8. Leontyne Price? http://youtu.be/cJLO89EOAoY
  9. ..., from what I have reading on the forums, I have a feeling (and this is pure speculation) PoE is probaby going to be released next year. There just seems to be too many bugs and art that still need to be fine-tuned. I don't know how the PoE team could realistically take care of all of those issues in 3 months. The backer beta bugs section is already 33 pages long, and this is just after a week.
  10. I am actually completely fine with the party portraits. I don't think it's a big deal and if people really want to change them, there's tons of portrait packs on the web for that. But Enigmatick made a great point. I would prefer the NPC portraits to be consistent. Looking at the video, I had some questions and feedback, which may or may not have already been answered. Is there going to be some sort of animation or trigger that makes the user know that the effect is active or not? For example, "Wild Sprint", am I going to know when that effect triggers or when it becomes inactive? Are there going to be critical hit exclamations or animations? Is there any chance of a "bloody mess" perk or trait/dismemberment/shower of gibs in this game or in a future expansion? Is there going to be a key or option to highlight searchable items? Are the low intelligence options still in the game? "So what's a slave doing in the Free Palatinate of Dyrwood? Guessing those marks on your back didn't come from loving caresses." Was that a reference to a certain forum?? Would be kind of cool if one of the options of "plan in mind for coming this way." was "I want to be a mighty pirate!" Just a thought. Will there be a in-game bestiary or lore library? It seems like the monsters have a lot of abilities and it would be nice to have something as a reference. The scripted interactions and environments are outstanding. Gameplay looks very smooth. Overall, I really liked the video and the team is doing a great job.
  11. This game is going to be so awesome when it comes out. Josh, Brandon, and everyone else on the team, thanks for the updates. I support you guys 100%.
  12. Hi Justin, The music for the game sounds great! Just tossing these out there as inspiration! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkOiKy6sXfM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53x5zwEp3cY Also: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFO5ck1vaSE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIsQPdC9YnY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOkhaM3WDEc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5ItNxpwChE&feature=kp https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCFtBlKDIaM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikbdildbB-c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1-ILVJxQLg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZOJ0_sRznM
  13. This is necessary for the myth. Or "narrativium" as Terry Pratchett puts it. A legendary item is not legendary if you find it your grandfather's attic. A hero must do heroic acts. It doesn't necessarily have to have a high level guardian, but it does have to have a heroic challenge to obtain it, be that a fight, a journey, a quest, or a sacrifice. Agree. It's felt so rewarding when after an epic battle, I got my grubby little paws on the Holy Avenger in BG2. I would also advocate having armor sets in the game, that have additional bonuses, if you manage to collect the entire set.
  14. You know, I sometimes think a certain amount of imagination is sacrificed whenever a story or dialogue is spoken or translated into the movies. When you are listening to the radio, you are able to imagine what a character looks like in your head. When I read dialogue, I usually already have an internal voice in my head. And sometimes, when the voice acting is different from what I expected, be it high pitched or lower pitched, it actually makes the immersion more difficult.
  15. Hi, if it hasn't been taken yet, I would like to name myself, Time Lord of the Obsidian Order.
  16. There are also so many great Japanese RPGs, like the Ys and Persona series, I would have loved to have played if they were translated into English. So, again, I am really, really happy that Obsidian is putting that up as a stretch goal.
  17. This is fantastic news and I am really happy that European gamers will also get to enjoy the game. You know, there ARE other countries in the world besides the United States. The Witcher was made by a Polish company. Drakensang and Gothic were made by a German companies. And I wouldn't have been able to play any of them if the developers had decided not translate them into English.
  18. I prefer some mystery. I am not even sure if deities should even need to make a physical appearance in the game. I feel that's actually been overdone. I guess I like the idea that magic and deities aren't or can't be fully comprehended in the world.
  19. Please don't replicate the situation with Sand and Qara in NWN2. I understand that it's important that companions are reactive to your behavior, but I don't want it to get an extent where it ends up hurting the party at very, very inconvenient times. It seems such a shame to develop a companion's skills and to see that go to waste. The other suggestion is that I would make is to make the companions more disposable or offer a matching alternative. I hated Anders and Isabella in Dragon Age 2. I hated them. But I kept Anders because he was a mage and I needed him to balance out the party.
  20. I respectfully disagree because then the game would almost end up like Skyrim, which is basically a world simulator. WIthout the plot armor, I think there is a risk of weakening the overall story and narrative. It's not the most "realistic", but I would argue that a game isn't supposed to be realistic.
  21. I would rather kill a character early on than for them to be a liability later on. That was incredibly annoying at the end of NWN2.
  22. I think we all mutually agree to loathe Anders. What made it worse was when I was about to execute Anders, he sprouts off the line about being a martyr. I ended up reloading a savegame and not killing him.
