  1. Well, I prefer having the crazies (neonazis, holocaust deniers etc.) safely recognizable by giving them the ability to spout their nonsense as they see fit. Then again, as a white cis male, I'm not exactly among their prime targets, so that's not really a decision I feel I should have any kind of authority to make.
  2. I'd be just as happy if another Tolkien-esque game of any variety never gets made ever again. The thing is though, Tolkien-eqsue doesn't just mean elves and orcs. World of Warcraft has elves and orcs and it's not even remotely like Tolkien's work. There are suprisingly few good cRPGs in the same style and level of quality as Tolkien. I understand, and I stand by my statement. High fantasy, in general, is far and away the most played out setting in RPGs, and video games in general. There are so many other great settings that have barely, if at all, been explored. Let's make some games in those settings and give high fantasy a rest for a good long while. I wouldn't exactly call Tolkien's work "high fantasy", though.
  3. They're self-defeating. The whole point is that you get to watch your character do Cool Stuff, but end up not being able to jizz all over yourself about the coolness of your character, because you're too busy with the button-mashing to notice what's going on outside the button prompts themselves.
  4. DA:O was a piss-poor game in a rather dull setting, compounded with a horrible story, repetitive combat and seriously unbalanced classes. Not to mention how it basically required you to bring a healer and a battle mage to be effective, while only providing you with two NPC mages, who, by the way, hated each other's guts. So, no kidney stone fetish is necessary for a proper explanation
  5. If SWTOR has taught me anything, it's that evil in the Star Wars universe(or at least how it is interpreted by Bioware) is just juvenile nonsense. Well, KotOR2 is somewhat more nuanced than that, so it's not the sole fault of the source material. That's part of the reason I hold it in such high esteem: they've managed to create morally complex characters in a universe which is literally about the eternal clash of the most unimaginably pure purity and the evilest evil with puppy-kicking cherry on the top. It's beautiful, really. (Edit: and a testament to how wrong the previous poster is who finds Obsidian's writing to be overrated and generally bad.)
  6. Now that's just... barbaric.
  7. Well, yeah. Canon Star Wars is bad. On the other hand, when you start to deviate (like KotOR2 did), you can do some pretty awesome stuff with it.
  8. And another one: both the much reviled DA2 and ME3 were way better than DAO and ME2.
  9. Ooh, another! Vampire: Bloodlines was a terrible wasted opportunity for the VtM license, a bad adaptation which had none of the core themes of its source matter, and devolved into borderline unplayable crap after the Chinatown parts.
  10. - I find all Fallout games boring. Even New Vegas. - Conversely, I think Morrowind was the worst "modern" Elder Scrolls game, and the series has only been improving ever since. I've found both Oblivion and Skyrim to be rather fun, with some really memorable quests.
  11. What are you studying that relates to dissecting/skinning/experimenting on rabbits? Physiology. Requirement for all those fancy doctor-y things like internal medicine, pharmacology, surgery, etc. (And, in all fairness, it's not really dissecting, nor skinning, but a very selective preparation of the trachea, the jugular vein, the vagus nerve and the carotid artery on an anasthetized live specimen, followed by vagal stimulation and injection of certain physiological agonists, but I'm always kinda lazy to look up the correct english terminology after a busy day of not-dissecting-nor-skinning.)
  12. Dissected a cute widdle bunny wabbit today. Well, watched the teacher dissect one, but I'm told it's my turn next week. Well, actually not so much "dissect" as "partially skin and experiment on it", but still. In other news, girlfriend wants a cat, which is extremely cool. She takes care of its disgusting earthly needs while I get to pet it the days I visit her. Is this how heaven feels like?
  13. if it's balanced around other races, then yes. otherwise no: godlikes would become the go-to race. Yeah... you'd almost have to give other races all something to be gained as they progress, too. Otherwise, you end up with any non-godlike character just getting class stuff as they level, then: "Godlike! Now with 100% more progression gains!" I think the current idea is that talents are universal, but if you meet certain requirements (class, race, perhaps attribute?), you can pick them up at an earlier level than those who don't.
  14. Even without that they all should be killed. Obvious troll is obvious.
  15. Finally, someone else said it. You are simply a sheep. Try thinking for yourself one day. And try being honest for a change. Yeah, yeah. Keep telling yourself that, mate. *pats on the head* I thought the whole point of playing a fantasy game was that the heroes are anything but average. Also, in PoE, even the fighters mainly use soul magic (fighter-y soul magic, but magic nonetheless) to get the job done (instead of relying on raw strength and agression levels). Yes, loudly clamoring for more buff & gruff male heroes and vocally opposing even a hint of diversity will help to attract so many new female players. And that's not why you were called sexist. You were called sexist because your comments about the female party members (especially the ones concerning the priest, who isn't hot enough for you to consider having her in the party) were sexist. Surprised? Then again, men generally don't like fighting monsters with swords either. Your point?
  16. Oh, right, Fable. Would have said Icewind Dale and added that I consider myself lucky for it, but then you reminded me of the trainwreck that was Fable *shudder*.
  17. That's the metalest decription I've read in a long time, and I'm raised on a steady diet of Warhammer 40k. Make it canon, Obsidian!
  18. Dunno, mixing the elements of gothic horror with classic dungeon crawling gameplay seems like the very antithesis of fun. Also, the "Dark Souls burtonized" art style doesn't really do it for me, but that's completely subjective.
  19. Wow, death godlikes look awesome. Although their racial ability tempts me heavily to make mine a rogue instead of the paladin I originally planned to. Just how great a damage bonus are we talking about? Will it have any significance with the less smashy classes? (And are paladins going to be able to pick up flashy death-laser-of-heavens type talents or other heavy damage-dealing stuff at all?)
  20. I really enjoyed the Targos parts, but after that, the game just fell apart. Insanely hard combat encounter after insanely hard combat encounter (the fact that I found druids to be more useful than clerics in IWD1, and created my party accordingly, didn't help), and the worst thing about it was that when I dialed down the difficulty, it wasn't accomplished by weakening them rules-independently, but by giving me underleveled opponents fewer in number, causing me to also end up weaker in turn, and we were back to square one.
  21. Considering the time constraints they had to work with, I agree. It's still a horrible game, though.
  22. Now that's promising ^^
  23. Well, spy game, genre tropes, etc.
