Detroit game is 9:30 EST. My 3 game prediction wins are the only three possible for me. No more wins.

Same here except I got the number of games right for all three as well so
  4. Doesn't the frame of the monitors visually distract, tho? I've seen videos of gaming on multiple monitors. Neat in concept but not sure I'd like that broken up look. I'd rather have one really really really wide monitor but they don't make those yet. Its one of those things that you look at and think it would ruin the whole experience, but after you start playing, you completely forget about.
  5. Crap, I forgot about that spot. Ignore my last comment then.
  6. So run around them instead of attacking them? There are a number of areas where it's much easier to just shoot everyone, but I can't think of any where it isn't just as easy to run past everyone. The key is finding the right path, especially when the red highlighting doesn't always give you the best path, just a path. I'll admit, the counter timing is a little screwed up though. I can never get past Ropeburn on the first try without runner vision. Second try is iffy as well.

5-0 shutout for San Jose tonight. Anderson looked a little shaky tonight. Tripping all over the place.

So much for the trend of short OT games this year eh? YES! CARKNER SCORES THE OT WINNER! OTTAWA LIVES TO PLAY ANOTHER DAY!
  9. Sometimes it's a guaranteed ticket to an . I had no idea what the hell that guy was doing. Ninja Mono is the limit of my abilities.
  10. Where? Show me the post. I didn't see anything like that in this thread at least. The post that started all this: I see no mention of a 10 activation limit anywhere in this thread. You're seeing things you want to see Krezack. Zoraptor is only guilty of misleading information, not incorrect information. Valve does have the power to cut you off whenever they please and there is nothing you can do about it according to their terms. Doesn't mean they will, or that it is in any way likely, but the possibility does exist. My problem with Steam is that the damn thing is so unstable on every computer I own. WinXP, WinVista, Win764, they all crash spectacularly. At least it has the decency to not hard lock my computer when it does so, but that's small comfort when it happens during approximately 50% of my game sessions.
  11. I'm pretty sure that younger siblings have some magical power that allows them to notice things in games that the rest of us just gloss right over. My brother does it all the time.

That was what, 51 shots on Craig Anderson, only to lose on an OT own goal?! One of the CBC chat mods picked Boyle to score in OT oddly enough.
  13. Jagged Alliance 2 handled that somewhat better by being real time when not in contact with enemy forces. When getting a visual on the enemy it switched to tactical combat. That would have been nice on some of those X-Com missions Yeah, but how often did you actually see any of the enemy in X-Com? You shoot one alien and suddenly you're taking fire from all corners of the map, far beyond your visual range.

Wait, are you trying to say that Buffalo is the underdog? Ovechkin didn't have a single shot on net. Washington had 47 shots, Montreal had 37 shots. Great goaltending in this game. Overtime was great with all the chances going both ways. I hope the rest of the series is just as interesting! Also, HELL YES! MONTREAL WIN! WOO!
  15. Possibly because technical limitations didn't allow for much more. I'm going to be even sillier than usual, and say that since TFTD played mostly underwater, it wasn't X-Com, either. X-Com was about the iso, turn-based, squad tactics as much as it was about sci-fi, molecular control, and the horror atmosphere inspired by playing night missions against the remains of ancient alien civilizations that use people to make yummy shakes in their vats. If they can make a squad-based shooter that incorporates aspects from outside the actual mission gameplay (research, UFOpedia, base and budget management, randomized environments, etc), it could be nerdgasm. If not, well, I suppose we'll at least recognize the Chrysalids. Oh, wait. It's going to be cross-platform... nevermind then. Why would TFTD not count as X-Com? I haven't played any of the sequels to the original so I may be wrong, but from what I understand, the only major difference between the first and second game was that TFTD had missions underwater instead of on land. It's the same game just with a different skin.
  16. It's not violating the game world by expanding it, it's that nothing there was nothing to the game world to begin with so no matter what you do with it, you're starting from scratch anyway. There really isn't anything to carry over other than the gameplay.
  17. You and Hell Kitty both used this argument. Which fans would these be? The Codex? Here? How much of that was based on hate for anything that Bethesda did rather than how well the game actually managed to convey the feeling of Fallout? A good shooter with the X-Com name is still a good game. It is not what I would want, but I'm not debating whether it would still be a good game. I don't see it being an X-Com game. I am aware that this is the same argument that some of those Fallout fans used. Yes, for the purpose of this argument, I am defining the game mechanics of X-Com as the sole definition of the game. What else was there in X-Com? There was nothing special about the setting, it was present day earth with aliens. You never saw anything outside the bases or generic mission locations. Anything that they add to this, isn't X-Com. Which of those good squad combat games from a few years ago allowed you to build your own base? Which ones allowed you to research new technologies? Which ones had anything even close to the geoscape from X-Com? X-Com was popular because it combined both the management and the TBS aspects into a coherent game that arguably hasn't been duplicated or improved upon yet.

Is it too late to switch my prediction in the Van/LA series? My picks went 0-4 tonight. Happy to see Ottawa pick up the win and the other lower seeds push back, but my picks.
  20. I've been running through Borderlands the past couple days. My Soldier hit level 50 about an hour ago and I'm most of the way through the second playthrough. I'm just about to hit the Salt Flats to go kick Baron Flynt around. I finally managed to find some better equipment to replace the stuff I've been using since level 24. Good bye Tediore Genocide Cobra, hello Dahl Desert Stomper!
  21. Fallout 3 was hardly something completely different from the originals in the way that an FPS X-Com is likely to be. What made Fallout what it was? Arguably, it was the world setting, the lore, the characters. It was all the fluff behind the scenes that defined what Fallout was rather than the clunky isometric turn based combat. Whether Fallout 3 managed to capture those aspects is up to the individual, but there was nothing inherent in the switch to FPS combat that said it couldn't be a good Fallout game. I can't really speak for Far Cry 2 so much as I haven't played either entry in the series. My knowledge is mostly limited to both of them being FPS games and FC2 being a giant sandbox with some neat healing animations. Was there any story or world connection between the two titles? Trying to take X-Com and turn it into an FPS won't be nearly as easy nor as likely as the transition was for Fallout. X-Com doesn't have the benefit of all the fluff that Fallout had. X-Com was about the gameplay. What was the setting? It was more or less present day Earth. Absolutely nothing special about that. The only characters you ever met were panicked civilians or hostile aliens. X-Com was about the combination of the turn based squad combat and the overall management of your alien fighting organization covering research, recruitment, construction and more. Is it impossible to take what made X-Com great and transplant it into an FPS? No. Is it likely? Again, I'd say no. The management aspect is likely to either be completely glossed over, eliminating half of what made the original worth playing, or be over-simplified with a linear progression that never changes (IE, you always get plasma rifles after mission 4). The combat sections are likely to be fast paced arcade shooting action. We don't know for sure what exactly it's going to be like at the moment so I'll refrain from going all doom and gloom just yet, but looking at the way the market has been going these past few years, it doesn't exactly leave me very hopeful.

Gotta make sure I get those predictions in before the games start! East: Washington vs. Montreal - in 5 As much as I'd like to see another outcome, I don't see my Habs getting very far against the Caps. They put up more of a fight than they did against Boston last time around. New Jersey vs. Philadelphia - in 7 Not really sure about this one. Going to stick with Brodeur for the win here. Buffalo vs. Boston - in 5 Two great goaltenders, but Buffalo has the better offence to back it up. Pittsburgh vs. Ottawa - in 6 No sweep this time! Sens make a series of it, but lose out in the end. Western: San Jose vs. Colorado - in 6 As hopeless as San Jose has been in the playoffs, I still don't see them going out this early. Chicago vs. Nashville - in 4 No contest. Chicago steamrolls Nashville. Vancouver vs. Los Angeles - in 6 Fairly even series actually, but the Twins give Vancouver the win. Phoenix vs. Detroit - in 5 Sorry Phoenix. It was nice seeing you in the playoffs, but drawing Detroit in the first round? Ouch.
  23. Hey! Renegade was a lot of fun, especially in multiplayer. Also it had some awesome music.

  25. Hello. Civ is a notable exception, because Sid Meier and crew are well known, plus they have a huge and loyal fanbase, so they can afford to make these kind of games. XCOM can NOT! Would you prefer Elemental instead? It's not impossible to create a turn based game in this market, but it would take more work to create and market successfully than another FPS would.
