  5. For some reason, FFversusXIII looks more appealing. Maybe because it looks less Final Fantasy-esque than the rest? I agree with that. Now, if Squaresoft was managed by people with an actual brain, they might do a whole game with Amano's art instead of Nomura's "let's appeal to the kids and the idiots" style. But, alas, theirs is the kingdom of the flashy and empty CG movies.
  6. Visc mentioned Malcolm Reynolds, and I agree with him. Actually, I was never a Joss Whedon fan, as I've always considered Buffy, well, mostly crap(except for the geeky lesbianism. Geeky lesbians are always awesome). But, along came Firefly, and now I think Whedon is made of awesome and win. It really had kick ass characters, both due to the script and the generally spot on acting. The only character in Firefly that came out somewhat half arsed was Inara, and that was just because the chick who played her couldn't act even if her life depended on it.

  8. I find it very odd that you can't remap the keys in the new PoP. I mean, it's a standard option in any PC game, and it was possible to do it in all the previous games in the series. It would have to be a complete brain fart. Edit: As I'm going to buy this, eventually, I did some checking and according to this you can remap the controls...

  12. Space Rangers 2 with the expansion is available from Impulse for 4 bucks so I'm downloading that now. It's an absolutely awesome deal.
  13. I'd prefer it if there was, at least, one other button for melee. To add a bit of variety to the combos. One button could be leg attacks while the other arm attacks, for example.

  16. Ultima VII added dialogue trees, party NPCs that reacted to your actions and massively improved world interaction. Being revolutionary is important in the case of Half Life because everyone proclaims it to be some sort gaming revolution. As such, determining whether Half Life is overrated or not depends on its revolutionary qualities. Also, on the subject of games being improved upon by later games, Half Life hasn't exactly aged well. No One Lives Forever took the Half Life experience turned and into a much better game, with better scripted events, better AI and more varied gameplay. Unfortunately, as it hasn't sold 1 million copies a year since release it's most definitely a worse game than Half Life. I'm not really arguing against Half Life which is a fine game that took the Doom formula in the right direction. My beef is with two notions that often show up in "My dad is could beat up your dad" discussions: 1. The more and the longer an item sells, the better it is. 2. There's no arguing against taste.
  17. Aren't a lot of dosbox compatible games free for download now? Dosbox is far from perfect though. I've tried to get Xcom 3 to run through it a few times and I can't get the sound to work. VDMS might help.
  18. Are you kidding? Half Life was seriously hyped up and every reviewer who played the game hailed it as the second coming of Christ, and everyone back in 1998 was playing Half Life. Also my misgivings towards the game are not retroactive, even back in 1998 a few people were already complaining about the awfulness that was Xen and the idiotic platforming bits. And by the way, I wasn't comparing it to Doom, a game five years older than Half Life, by accident. Half Life offers the same product as Doom with two meaningful and important improvements. This makes Half Life a good game not a revolutionary one. System Shock, or Thief, or Ultima VII were revolutionary games, for example, regardless of how well they sold or for how long they sold. Half Life's qualities aren't just dependent on individual, subjective tastes. You can look at the game and easily discern what it is that Half Life did do, that was improved or new when compared to other FPSs.
  19. McDonald's must have the best hamburgers ever, then. Also, Half Life is Doom with better AI, and the (same)story told within the game instead of through the readme. It is a good game, albeit one with serious faults, but not the bestest game ever that would account for selling 10 million units a year.
  20. Karka thinks Half Life is more successful (i.e. sells more) than it deserves, therefore he thinks Half Life is overrated. I don't see how that means he is bitter.
  21. Did you get the (massive) patch? I know SoZ broke the voices for MotB, but I didn't realise there were other issues. I'm a few hours into the game, and loving it so far. No bugs yet, and the death system and random encounters do feel a bit like Baldur's Gate (that's a good thing). Yeah the massive patch fixed alot of problems, but not this one. That's not a problem introduced by SoZ. You just have to manually walk into the door instead of using the mouse.

  24. This leaves me very excited, especially the bit about combat skills giving dialogue options. However, there are two or three things that would leave me very happy if they were changed: The yellow font seems a bit too flashy for my tastes. It would be nice if they changed it to something a bit more subdued. The display of +1 reputation on screen takes away from character development, and turns conversation into a silly meta game instead of, you know, a conversation with an actual person. At the very least, hide the info from the main screen, and preferably make it a completely hidden variable. I hated it in your previous games, and I will hate it here. Limit the amount of guns you can carry at a time. Going around with two hand guns and two rifles seems a little over the top for something set in the real world. I'd really love to see a video of a conversation, mostly to see what the faces and animations will look like in the finished product.
