I thought you were comparing games to movies and books. Not other games. I loved the Zelda games. Haven't played on since Ocarina of time though. I stand corrected...... Well, personally, I feel that comparing the vast majority of game writing to well written books and films isn't even worth doing at this point. The art of writing for games is just still too undeveloped, I guess. Zelda games are generally awesome and all but they are not RPGs. Besides, the writing in the Zelda games was just a very basic background to get the gameplay going. The writing in those games was just functional, and best if ignored. Finally, regarding The Longest Journey, I don't think it was a particularly good game, in the sense that its core gameplay mechanics just weren't very good. What I think The Longest Journey did well was the writing, as its character development was comparatively rich and engaging and its plot development did a very good job of keeping the player engaged. I think TLJ is one of only a handful of games where the writing managed to make its characters feel like real people and not just a collection of standard archetypes.

Sorry, but that's bull****. Unless you have a really crappy mouse. Yeah, people said stuff like that about the Sands of Time trilogy and Devil May Cry too, I never had any problems that a controller would've solved. While Sands of Time is more than playable with keyboard and mouse, Devil May Cry can get complicated without a gamepad, especially on the harder difficulty levels.

Isn't quality of writing & voice acting what BioWare is famous for, rather than interesting game world & gameplay? There has never been much else in their games. In their trailers/previews they always show off their deep storylines & depth of character choices. I haven't seen any information about the game world itself... they could learn from Bethesda when it comes to building a highly detailed game world with in-depth lore. I agree that the voice acting in Bioware games is generally better than average. However, the writing has always been typically crap. ME's sex scenes, for example, aren't any better than this new one from Dragon Age.

The originals weren't all that good anyway, so I don't see what everyone is complaining about.

I'm just saying that BG2 cost less to make that NWN. I'm not sure if that's true, of course, but I don't see how that necessarily contradicts Bioware's statements. I'm guessing BIO are talking about overall sales when they say "successful".

I just bought a Herzog boxed set, which includes Lebenszeichen, Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes, Woyzeck, Fitzcarraldo, Cobra Verde, and Mein Liebster Feind. Also, the DVDs have a bunch of extras, including quite a few of Herzog's documentaries. GLEE!!!!!!!

EA releases a lot more than 3 sports games, every year. There's NBA, NFL, NHL, FIFA, FIFA manager, PGA tour and whatever else that is a sport.

Well, ME and NWN probably moved a lot more units than BG2. However, if you were to compare the games' budgets, I'd imagine BG2 comes very much ahead. It's not about number of boxes sold, but rather about return on investment.
